My free gift to the world!
After hearing the bazillionth mix massacred by Ozone, I've decided to create my own starter preset. If you're fool enough to try your own mastering , this preset is far better starting point than the "extra-widened excitened stimulator w/ double-reverse bass boost" presets that are supplied with Ozone. I've also enclosed a instructional .pdf file. Note that the Ozone preset is an ".xml". file. Just save the file to your Ozone presets folder. I've also uploaded my personal Sonar mixing template. Each channel has its own EQ setting (which you can save to your presets menu) and I have a variety of reverb send setups. I won't guarantee that any of these things will work at all for your particular song, but at least you'll gain a glimpse into my insane mind! Whaddaya want for nothing? Enjoy! Jonas' free templates

What a guy that Jonas is! FWIW, my recommendation for home-mastering is to put the whole mix through several stages of BBE, a brick wall limiter, and a guitar emulator set to "British Funk" for that extra bit of tube warmth. And that's a lie.

That all sounds good, but you should really add a chorus to that chain to get good stereo separation... of course then you might need to add another layer of BBE. The way I see it, if I've paid for 50 fx plug-ins and only use 40, I'm just throwing away money. PS... Thanks Jonas; I'll definitely be trying this out!

Such a generous gift, Jonas, to the masses who cannot mix, let alone try their hand at mastering. That is like getting the cart before the cart isn't it?! Oh well.... To each their own.

To each their own. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing indeed! If nothing else it'll cause people to slightly rethink their personal workflow and hear things slightly differently than they have done in the past. I want to reiterate that what I have provided (especially the track EQ settings) are just suggested points of departure. They're certainly not a "one size fits all" solution. If I contribute to averting just one more Ozone sonic disaster the world will be a better place .

thanks for the template jonas just one question when i try to install it it all opens up fine except the long reverb bus : sonitusfx reverb. with this it says "cakewalk missing plugin stand in" is this a different plug in from the one used for the short reverb bus, i can see that that is a soniuts fx reverb plug in also and its loads up no problems. or is it that i am acually missing a plug in of another kind like it seems to say. Ps. did you ever get your FTP site working?

I just posted a .pdf picture of what the Sonitus long reverb settings. The FTP location is up and running, but I'm running into glitches with my web page as an unintended byproduct. I'll get this ironed out if it kills me!

thanks jonas after playing around with the template i think the plugin is actually loaded but just not showing. If i bus sounds through it i can hear the difference. but the pdf, should allow me to recreate it also, thanks. good luck with the whole ftp thing. despite some rather weary replies here i have been having a pretty good experience with the "foldershare" software i mentioned in this post : http://www.cakewalk.com/forum/tm.asp?m=131787 incredibly easy to set up and use.

Yeah, but sometimes the only way to improve on a minor disaster is to make it a giant disaster. just ask an industrial producer. Or maybe George Bush. Cheers.

FWIW, I have to once again offer my advice against "mastering" one's own recordings, other than the tuck-and-tail, set-the-levels-and-burn-to-CD thing.... If you can hear that your mix needs work, why would you not go back and fix the mix instead of trying to fix it with Ozone? Not to knock Ozone, which I think is a great plug, but like mlockett said, I think there's a lot of people just using plugins because they have them. Careful listening to mic placement, gain structures, levels, eq, compression, effects settings, edits, and arrangement can make a cassete portastudio turn out some killer records. A million dollars worth of gear and effects, badly used, will make crap sound like heavily-processed crap. Sorry, I know I'm a broken record around here... Best regards, yep
