OK - thanks Can you leave this running and retrieve your interface settings and post those also? I know the sample rate is 44.1 at 24-bit, I am curious on the buffers. Also, on this screen I recommend the Stereo Panning be set to: -3db center, sin/cos taper, constant power. The total round trip latency should be able to be lower - so we will look at getting that to happen Bob Bone

I don't know anything about that interface, but they must have some kind of program to control settings on it. Check in the system tray, and if not running there, check to see if there is a program installed through your Start button / menu. I'll take a quick look at the doc and see what it says. Bob

The UA25 is a bit different, its interface is weird, it doesn't show "normal" buffer sizes it just has a slider. Like sonar has in WDM mode. Agreed the latency should be lower for accurate recording, but isn't his complaint about sound quality of his bass tracks? Which he can now hear, I woulls still like to know what he is listening through? Also on his timing sonar behaves better I believe ( can't remember the reason) if the playback and recording timing masters are set differently. Ie 1 on playback and 2 on recording.

Here is the doc for the settings: To change the settings To change or verify settings When changing driver settings, always make sure to first quit all applications using the UA-25. This is unnecessary when only checking the settings. * If the Windows monitoring function is enabled, it won't be possible to change the driver settings. Refer to "Could the Windows monitoring function be enabled?" and disable monitoring. Open the "Control Panel," switch "View by:" to the icon view (Large icons or Small icons), and then click "UA-25." The "UA-25 Driver Settings" dialog box will appear. To modify the settings, make the changes and click [OK]. To simply check the settings, be sure to click [Cancel] after viewing the settings. * For details on the setting items, refer to "About the items in the Settings dialog box." About the items in the Settings dialog box Audio Buffer SizeYou can adjust the audio input/output buffer size. (By default, this will be the sixth position from the left.)Decreasing the buffer size will shorten the latency and improve realtime performance, but might make it more likely that you will experience audio clicks and pops, depending on your computer's processing power and the song data load. Increasing the buffer size will lengthen the latency, but will make audio streaming more stable, and it will be less likely for audio clicks and pops to occur. In general, you'll probably want to decrease the buffer size for better realtime performance if you're playing a software synthesizer in real time, or if you're monitoring an audio input that's being passed through your DAW software. Conversely, you can increase the buffer size to prevent audio clicks and pops if you're recording or playing back song data that contains numerous tracks and presents a heavy processing load.By changing the buffer size as appropriate for your situation, you can obtain the right balance between realtime performance and audio streaming stability. * Note! After you've changed the "Audio Buffer Size," make sure to restart all applications which are using the UA-25. Then, if you are using a program that offers a function for testing audio devices, we recommend that you run such tests. Also, you may want to check to see if your application is one of those that provides a setting for adjusting the buffer size. ASIO Buffer SizeThis is the minimum buffer size that can be set by the ASIO application. * Depending on the application you're using, there may be other buffer sizes that can be set in addition to the minimum buffer size, and the buffer size shown here might not match the actual buffer size. For details on setting and checking the buffer size, refer to the owner's manual for your application. "Use Smaller ASIO Buffer Size" check boxIf this check box is selected, the buffer size when using ASIO-compatible applications will be made smaller. If you experience pops or clicks when this check box is selected, deselect this check box. * You must deselect this check box when adjusting the "Audio Buffer Size." "Use ASIO Direct Monitor" check boxCheck this if you are using the ASIO Direct Monitor function with an ASIO-compatible application. The "Light Load" check boxNormally, you should leave this check box cleared. * The modified setting will take effect after the USB cable of the UA-25 is disconnected and reconnected. " Show README" buttonThis button displays the README file (this document). InformationThis field shows the driver version.

Stinga you are quite correct - I am just trying to go through this once, so everybody can be done with this. The playback and record timing are set on mine to use out 1 and in 1,so I guess that's ok. The interface settings seem to show up in a really weird place - All I will be doing is to ask him to alter the buffers, and maybe that load setting - have to go back and read it again. It this bogs down I will skip to trying to fix that track problem and do this other stuff another time. Good call on that.

There's a big blurb on it in the doc. Midi tracks have them too. It let's you hear - is the short answer. OK - so methodical WINS! I am SOOOOO happy for you to get past all of this stuff. This did pretty much pop my balloon (I am quite tired now), so I am going to jump off this thread for the day, or at least until later - I am sure I will check it again after a nice long nap and some cookies. I am also going to walk down to the beer and wine store and grab some cold ones to celebrate. We have some more to do - just tweaks to get your latency down - we will tackle that another time. Enjoy playing around with everything tonight!!! And don't forget to get another hug - remember - when you get a hug you are also giving one! Bob Bone

Just for reference, "Input Echo" (a.k.a. input monitoring) relays the input signal to the output. In the case of Audio, this allows you to hear live input at the output, and in the case of MIDI allows live performance data to drive a synth (hardware or software) in real time. By default, MIDI input echo is enabled by for the currently active track, but can also be forced ON for one or more tracks. In the case of Audio tracks you have to deliberately enable it for any tracks receiving live input that you want to hear via the output. It's not automatic, because of the potential to generate feedback with miced sources.

Afrodrum Stinga, let me thank you too. I was so helpless and frustrated. Glad to have an Edirol pal My pleasure. I've just been rehearsing with my band so missed the latest stuff. Really glad you are sorted. For your info. On the front of your UA25 there is a direct monitor button, if you press that in it will allow you to hear (latency free) what you are playing before it hits Sonar alievateing the need to use the input echo button in sonar. Therefore if you are using say a Bass Pod you will hear exactly what you are playing live through your monitors whilst still recording. If however you are using something like Guitar Rig inserted on your track for your bass sounds you will have to use the input echo button. HTH some more.
