Honestly, I think Cake needs to focus on being able to get users into designing skins so we can have things like Imperial in Sonar. Plenty of apps had open skin development where people could really tear the interface apart and replace it with custom designs that went far beyond colours.

Winamp anyone? This is the skin I've been using for over a decade:

Being able to completely reskin the interface would really send a wave through the userbase and I think we'd start seeing quite a few people designing some impressive stuff.

Craig - Here are more samples of his work.  Gorgeous stuff

Very impressive! After seeing the full range of his work, I don't think it's the same person who did the Apollo console.

I'm getting anxious about the new Sonar UI.  I don't want it before it's ready, but I am really eager to check it out.

I'm looking forward to it too but I'm not anxious about it.  It will come soon before the end of the month or shortly after. I think CW is polishing it a bit before they present it to us. Don't forget Craig has already sent in the eZine for their approval. So it wont be long now.

Best

I'm not sure the new UI will be in the currently pending release ... I thought I read a Caker comment about it being a couple of releases out.  I guess we'll see soon enough!

... most modern UI designs these days are getting away from hardware realism.

Is that because the younger programmers can't spell skyuomorfizm :)

heh... I'm definitely okay with this. The less skeuomorphic the better for me. Though this is coming from someone that really likes the look of Live's and Maschine's UIs. Especially Maschine, with it being mostly dark and using bright color throughout really well.

That being said, I also really like the theme that Andrew posted. Looking forward to trying it out and seeing what else will be in the first wave of themes.

Hopefully within a day of release, some friendly Sonar users will have released a nice API console theme..
