Can't wait to banish the 1980's blue and gray backlit l.c.d. clock radio look forever!

A few days ago it was 81 degrees in Nashville. Last night it was 27 degrees. The shorts come out, the shorts go back. The shorts come out, the shorts go back. The shorts come out, the shorts...screw it, I'll just leave them out. It'll probably be 90 tomorrow.

In the north of England - and possibly elsewhere - we have a saying: "cast ne'er a clout til May be out". It's been sunny today, but it properly snowed a couple of inches deep less than two weeks ago.

Basically, in Manchester, it's either winter or summer. Spring and Autumn do happen, but they happen late and early respectively, and they last about a day.

As for UI themes, it's never been a priority feature for me, but I remember someone pointing out several years ago how useful it would be for sight-impaired users, so I've been on board ever since with the idea that it's valuable to the user base, if not directly to myself. So glad it's now coming.

And I do find, now it's coming, that I look forward to doing a bit of decorating. I spend all day every day in Sonar, and it could certainly do with some cushions and house-plants.

O.K. then, this thread has morphed into a weather report. My whole point here is we haven't had a fresh look since X1, which is a really, really long time. I myself prefer colors at the warm end of the spectrum and after staring at grey with blue highlights for 5 years now, I think a new look is way overdue and can't wait for some color options here.

It's my #1 gripe about the program, so I'm really looking forward to it. I really want to be able to design something that rivals or surpasses the 8.53 interface, which is still my favorite. If it will truly be customizable, then I'd only use other programs as outboard for their features and keep this as my main daw. It's my first love, but I've hated the interface since X1.

There was an official announcement here in Tokyo yesterday saying that cherry blossoms started blooming. So, it's officially spring.

Having said that, I'm quite happy with the current GUI. IMO it's the most beautiful-looking DAW on the market (I especially love the Control Bar, Synth Rack, etc.)

Just want an easier access to the custom color palette and the color theme drop-down.

I gotta say...

The quality and the looks of Sonar's interface were a deciding factor in my choosing a DAW.
Having said that, if we're going into skinning Sonar, can we make it look like this please?

In Boston we officially declare spring round about May. Thats when it gets warm enough :) So you will have to wait!

BTW just to set realistic expectations, the first cut of themes is likely going to be a few pre-packaged themes rather than being a fully customizable. We do have plans for that however but even so full blown theme design is not going to be for the faint of heart. Designing a theme requires quite a bit of graphic design experience if you want to build one from scratch.

This is my big hope for UI improvements, as I am getting older and my eyesight is fading.  High contrast options please.  Not pure black and white, like Windows boring high-contrast options, but options for lighter backgrounds with dark fonts, buttons and other elements, etc.  As it is, there are too many ambiguous shades of gray upon gray and other hard to read colors.

I looking forward to the themes too. Not because I'm a "geezer" even though I am its because I'm no fan of the gray either.

Besides we were promised this a very long time ago. Shortly after X1 was released.

As Noel said, drawing UI from scratch is tedious task. You don't want to do it unless you have 100-400 hours extra time for the project.
Been there, done that...

Instead of drawing everyting from scratch you can easily tweak colors in Photoshop or similar. To get started, import UI files to Photoshop, open Saturation: check [X] Colorize, then tweak hue. Add Levels layer etc. to finetune colors and maybe add some dirt.  However, you have to be careful because money can't buy good taste:

ok on the brighter color
ed lights and doodads but DUDE!  It's STILL Grey!  Battleship Grey!

Would be nice to have slightly larger fonts for my F'n old eyes but don't really see Reaper is any better... it's just different with a darker grey.
