not sure, I can't even use em for a while.. as I have to wait to use it on my main pc.. laptop hard drive isn't suited for large sample libs

well with the i-player it's only wanting the zips from esoundz.. the groove things was a 3rd party add on, so i'd treat it as such I guess..

I'm sure Allen would clarify it if ya email him.. they pretty fast at getting back.. downloaded more kits just now

Mike it's 16gb+ (13 + 11 kits.. still a few more to go)  so take ya time shopping.hehe

Yea, got em.  Quick question:  do you also drag your "odd grooves" over to the Infinite Player to install OR just unzip them and put them into the folder of your choice?

Unzip to the location of your choice worked here.

Re:Ocean Way Drums/Drum Masters Group Buy at esoundz - Update 2010/01/10 10:03:29 (permalink)
Hey guys

I have been making the daily trek up the mountain (i.e. KVR thread), this was from Dave yesterday:
For those that wait, the patches will be updated into the zips themselves ... However, for those that HAVE downloaded ... we're going to have an "ALL PATCH" update that is TINY to download and in one SWOOP all the listed issues will be solved.
Personally, I'm happy to have the stuff now to play with -- it sounds great!

But I am confused about using MIDI with these kits. I get that Infinite Player has to "play" the samples, but how do I feed it MIDI? Is this something I can do with just Sonar 8.5 PE, Kontakt 4 and IP, or do I need to wait for the EZ Player?

Speaking of which, phase 3 is slated for tomorrow :)

Thanks,

wren

Hey, what-the-heck!  I checked in over at esoundz earlier today and 4 or so more kits were up.  I just checked again and ALL the ultimate drum group buy stuff had disappeared from my downloads page.  All of it.  Sheesh.

my guess is that they are replacing the ones that needed the gui patch with the fresh versions of the .zips we were supposed to be able to wait for.

best,

Nah, Squids said there would be on patch file for all reported and fixed problems, not a download and reinstall.

What I thought I heard was that there was the stuff you downloaded and a patch but, if you happened to wait, the patch would be applied to the packages and then you can simply download the patched newer .zip.

I do not think there is a need for any one to download the files again.

1) I can be mistaken about what I am expecting

2) I am just guessing that this may be related to the above explanation

best,
mike

Well, it looks like I already own the remaining "choose two from this list" kits.  I got in on the group buy last year and those look to be some of the kits I got then.  I'll email em and see if I can substitute...but even if I can't it's still one heck-of-a-deal.  Looks like things are gettin squared away according to the latest email they sent out.

Well, the swell fellers at esoundz say that the "choose two" kits are NEW kits and not what I already have.  Whoo Hoo.  I shall download the rest of the haul tonight.  I plan on using mine on a new project I'm working on called, "27 Drummers and only one measley Bass Player"...you'll need a subwoofer for proper listening.

@yorolpal = how will you pan the kits? All the same for that unique DrumStack sound or all over the place for a Wall O' Drums?

Hey, I've got a question.  I was foolin with some of the kits last night (and it really is a great, great deal) trying to reroute the kick, snare, hat, toms, cymbals out to individual tracks in Sonar.  I could get the snare and kick isolated but all the other ouputs in K4 seemed to not match the ones I'd set up in Sonar.  I'm a dunce when it comes to routing anyway but this seemed very strange indeed.  So:  1]  Can anyone give me a short run down on how to get these "stereo" kits on individual outs into Sonar and 2] Does anyone know of a good Kontakt mixer routing tutorial??

Well, learnin the hard way is always the best.  I'm pretty sure I've got K4s routing (at least for my Ultimate Drums needs) sussed now.  But it did take me some trial and error and figuring out how K4's nonmenclature works.  I'm runnin hot straight and normal now.  In fact, if you're runnin into the same problems I was (audio routing the "stereo" kits onto individual Sonar tracks) I can probably help ya.  Give a shout if ya need to.  And, again, this is one amazing bang for the buck deal.  Enjoy your kits!

Re:Ocean Way Drums/Drum Masters Group Buy at esoundz - Update 2010/01/16 12:05:15 (permalink)
OK.  A further report.  I've spent most of the morning going back and rerouting to individual outs and saving new multis in Kontakt 4 of all the Ocean Way and Drum Masters Kits.  I've already created and saved a new "Ultimate Drums" track folder in Sonar and saved it as a track template.  Easy but drudge work.  Here are the only two anomalies that cropped up so far.  First, my "Bonham" and "Stairway/Levee" kits (which I'm sure use the same samples) are missing a significant amount of samples so won't load.  Probably happened during download.  I'll try redownloading and see what happens.  I'm betting they'll then load in but won't have the gui fix.  And speaking of the "gui" fix, my second anomaly was that the bonus Ludwig Jazz Kit still has the gui problem even after running the fix as the last install to the infinite player.  All the other kits' guis are fine.  I have not rerouted all the leventy jillion "hybrid" kits but will do so as I use them.  It only takes about 3 or 4 minutes per kit to reroute and save with a new name.  In any case, still quite an impressive haul for $99.  I'll keep ya posted.

I loaded both with now indication that any samples are missing.

Do you see a message telling you the samples are missing or are just the sounds not there?

Can you PM me with your conclusions?

I admit I have not taken any time with these yet.
I also have Jim's Jet City which I've not looked at yet.

K4's whole paradigm has not entirely clicked in with me yet. But, I've only used it slightly to be sure.

Well, Jet City is a whole nother ball a wax Bapu, ol pal.  I STILL don't have the hang of how to route it the way I want to.  Jim says I really shouldn't but I know I won't use it if I can't pare it down to 8 simple outputs (ala EZD) and that'd be a shame as it's a badass kit (as you can tell from my killerdiller demo for it "Jimbos Mambo").  But I'm gonna cogitate on it a while longer.  As to the Ultimate Drums, it turns out they're fairly easy to work with.  My initial problem was I was trying to build a template from the ground up adding audio tracks as I went and that IS NOT how to do it.  Just open Kontakt in it's Kontakt 8 stereo out mode within Sonar.  OK, now load in any of the OceanWay or DrumMasters stereo kits.  Click the "outputs" tab in K4.  You will now see each indiviual kit piece (plus two misc. channels) on it's own stereo channel.  Leave the kick as it is and starting with the snare click the config button at the bottom of the fader.  If you do this for every kit piece you'll see they are all assigned to K4s outputs 1 and 2.  So beginning with the snare and following the same procedure for each remaining piece (i.e. hat, toms, ride, etc...) click config and click on the outputs and assign each of them to the next highest available outputs from the drop down list.  It should be something like aux 1,2,3,4, unassigned 1, unassigned 2, etc...

This is where K4 is needlessly confusing.  Once you assign aux1, 1 and 2 to the snare they will say something like physical plug out 3 and physical plug out 4.  Why everything can't be labeled just "output1, output2, etc... is beyond me but I'm sure there's a reason for it.  In any case you'll soon see it's just a matter of drudge work reassigning your six outputs (remember...leave the kick as it is) so that in the end what you'll have is:

Kick 1//2, Snare 3/4, Hat 5/6, Toms 7/8, Ride 9/10, Crash 11/12, China 13/14, Splash 15/16
(I didn't assign the two misc channels and just left them on outputs 1/2)

Now just make sure your 8 stereo inputs on your Sonar tracks are set to Kontakt 4 Kick, Snare, etc...

If you've done it right each of your kit pieces will appear on its own individual Sonar track.  At least mine do:-)

I went ahead and rerouted all the OceanWay and DrumMasters stereo kits this way and saved them as new multis "patch only".  And, hey, it works!!

I built a Track Folder called "Ultimate Drums" that has one midi channel and eight audio channels and saved it as a Track Template.  It powers up with the OceanWay 1 kit (but you could use any of them)

Let me know if you have trouble.

Same here - I did a self fix, when you get the error dialog select "search file system", it will find the file, then resave the multi with a new name.

No help with the Bonham & Levee kits, they load fine here . The Kontakt file structures are so complex and disguised it's almost impossible to work out what's going on under the hood.

Hey DB, what is your Bonham zip file called?  Every time I download the file called Bonham Ludwig...it comes up something like BTludwig2......  But I've also got a zip file in my downloads that says bonhamludwig....... or something like that.  That zip is only 450 megs or so. not the almost 1 gig that  the "Bonham" file is on esoundz.  In other words, I don't think I CAN download the right file.

Yea, when I try to download the "Bonham" kit from esoundz I get this instead:

ip-dm2bludwgstmkit

which is only about 360 megs.  I had the file you reference above but it was only 450 megs.  So it didn't get downloaded properly the first time and now it's mixed up on my list of downloads.  I guess I could try to download each file and see if other names were mixed up.  Interesting tho.  I'm sure the guys will fix it up in the end.  What do you think about the kits in general?  Or specific? :-)

If I try to download now I get the filename ip-dm2bludwgstmkit too - though the same file size as before & the contents seem the same as previous.

Generally I'm pretty impressed with the kits, velocity switching, new scripts & other enhancements make a big improvement over the Drum Masters 1 kits.
The OWD kits are so good they tempt me to buy the top of the range product - though that may be part of a cunning marketing plan ;) .

This is from a bang on the keyboard & see what sounds come out perspective - real life has a way of impeding my dilettante dabblings.

Hmmm, strange.  Bruce, ol pal, do you still have your "original" bonham zip?  Maybe you could YouSendIt to me or something and I could see if that solves my problems.  I'm pretty sure what happened to me was that kit got truncated when I was trying to download more than one kit at a time.  After that I downloaded each kit on its own.  Just a thought.  Agree completely about this new package.  Great quality and scripting and easier to use and all for $99.  Gotta love esoundz.

ps: I take it back about the 350 megs.  That's what my original zip of the file was.  My subsequent download is the right size but does not solve my problem with that one dern kit.
