You're all very welcome!
Glad it helped.

@sqye: So, how about changing the thread title a bit, to "...workaround" or "...solved" or something, for other users who'll use the search button and might find this helpful...
(up to you, of course, not a must)

Best,
Klaus

I gave it a try, and while I can load and play a bunch of .mov files, there are two problems that I came up with. First, it won't play jpeg2000 videos--I guess there isn't a codec for that yet in K-Lite. Second, the video thumbnails don't update. All the thumbnails seem to be the first frame. Anyone else have this problem?

OK, just tested - and this is correct, Steve - the thumbnails do not show.

This is not a deal breaker - because I can use an .AVI converted in Vegas Home Studio HD,
and I'm planning to use Vegas Home Studio HD for basic video edits and ungrouping audio/video, anyway.
But I wonder if there's a workaround for this?

Klaus? :)

Same here - no thumbnails.
But still usable for me.

Im glad the codec pack is working for everyone.  Just a heads up, Cake tech support pointed me to this page last year, I tried downloading the pack from this site and got a nasty virus on my computer.

There are actually 3 different places that say "download" on the page.  Maybe I picked the wrong one, but it seems anyones guess which "download" is the correct one?

Good luck and hopefully they cleaned up the page

That's one of the reasons I don't trust K-Lite or the other codec packs. The website has those misleading download links, and even when you choose the right one (I chose the BetaNews Mirror link) that download site has all sorts of misleading download links as well. It's all very unsavory IMO.

And yeah, not having thumbnails isn't a dealbreaker. I just wish Sonar would simply work with modern common video formats out of the box with full functionality.

Ooh, sorry guys, I honestly thought it was a problem with my new system / graphic driver or something that caused the non refreshing thumbnail preview. Now it's obviously not... :(
I've been looking through the various settings of the codecs, but unfortunately didn't find a solution.
Well, it should work, shouldn't it? It doesn't make sense.
So, maybe it's a bug and will hopefully be fixed in a future version of the codec pack or it's related to a wrong preference setting.
I will do more tests but for now, it's not looking good. Sigh...

Best,
Klaus

Interesting thread. Just a note that the K-Lite Codec Pack is recommended by EasyWorship (the presentation program we use at church) to allow the program to play Quicktime, MP4, M4V & FLV files in EasyWorship.

Here is the link they provide for the download (clean site): http://codecs.com/K_Lite_Codec_Pack_download.htm

Here are their instructions for setup: http://www.easyworship.co...ew&questid=80&catid=23/  I cannot tell you whether the settings are the ones needed for X1 but perhaps those more knowledgeable about Codecs can (Mike?).

fwrend, those are links to the 32-bit pack, as far as I can tell. We need the 64-bit pack.

Hmm...I wondered and did a quick look at the download before I posted but didn't see it designated either way. I do know we are running Win7/64bit on both our sanctuary computers. Of course, that doesn't mean we're using the 64bit version of k-lite. I'm on vacation at the moment but will investigate when I get back.

EDIT: Thanks Steve, you are correct.  I did find the 64 bit version here: http://codecs.com/download/K-Lite_Codec_Pack_64-bit.htm but it does state that "The 64-bit versions of Windows can run 32-bit software perfectly fine. So it is recommended to use the regular K-Lite Codec Pack when possible. That one contains more, better and faster decoders. You only need 64-bit filters for use with 64-bit applications."

Re:Please, CW - GET US THE 64-Bit Quicktime Codec, so we can score!!!!!! 2013/08/15 11:30:34 (permalink)
I found this older thread and thought I would post this here to help people out, since I was having the same exact problem with 64 bit Sonar.  My clients keep sending me mov and mp4 files, and previously I had to do conversions.  Now I can import the mov files directly without issue.  Here is my repost from another topic:

I am posting this here as a helpful tip for anyone trying to get HD video to either a) import properly into Sonar 64 bit, or b) play smoothly and in sync once it does import.  There are a great number of crappy free codec "solutions" out there that can do more harm than good.  I am working on a (non-film scoring) project with a company that actually masters consumer Blu-ray content, and they sent me a link to a codec download that totally solved my problems getting HD video to play properly within 64 bit Sonar.  When I was researching how to solve this problem, it seemed like many others out there were having the same issues (unable to import video, horrible playback), so I thought I would share the solution I found here.

To find the specific pack I downloaded, Google "google lav filters 0.58.2" with the word "google" actually in the search window.  That brings you directly to a safe download that does not try to install other software along with the filters.  You can just Google LAV filters and find other versions; all I know is that this version worked perfectly for me.  I am now able to import .mov, .mp4 and avi files that use H264 without any problems.

Best thanks Mr Schuermann, i'am loading this software from there

Because Quicktimes is now definitive Out of Order for Windows 8/8.1/10 Support but older Versions like 7.7.6 has multiple security leaks - there we have free LavFilter with ffmpeg Support -thanks to Hendrik Leppkes
