Studioguy1 Of course. Wondering if we could entice Craig Anderton into taking it over?
Please no. Craig was in an unenviable position having known things from between the time he was “sacked” and the time of the recent announcement. Things he couldn’t share for legal reasons probably but I don’t think he’s the one for anything Sonar going forward.

Count me in, I`d rather have it done legally. I always buy my software, but if needs must, I wont hesitate with Sonar. I know with omnisphere and spectrasonics they state that in the unlikely event they the company goes out of businesses they have measures in place for the challenge/response system for user to active their software.

Absolutely. Gibson is close to bankruptcy, it has shown again and again it doesn't care about it's customers. Authorization that is NOT DEPENDENT on them in any way is the only thing anyone should accept. I would want a "dat" or whatever file that can be used for install and authorization ON ANY MACHINE I PUT IT ON.

Absolutely! My biggest fear at this point would be a system crash that would require a re install of Sonar. If they don't maintain a legacy authorization server I would be dead in the water. I know I wouldn't be able to use it forever as computer technology constantly changes with each new OS, but as somebody said above, this would be the least they can do for us, their "faithful customers. Also, it should include provisions for ALL versions and not just the latest (Platinum, Professional, Artist). I use X3 and I only bought it 3 years ago!! I'm on a fixed income now and cannot afford another $200-$300 for another DAW! John B

John, Have a look at Macrium Reflect ( the free version ). It is a bullet proof solution for a system crash. With Reflect you can create an image of your whole OS partition that can be restored. Usual restore time for me is less than 15 minutes. Also, X3 doesn't require authorization. I still have it installed and it will be my fall back in case we can't get some fix for SPLAT.

Well - not only authorization is needed, but also ALL the install files you need to install the product. Only the install and maintenance center would not work, because it depends on huge files that have to be downloaded from some server. So - The users should not only have an off-line authorization mechanic, but also the possibility to download all installation files from their software and store them locally in a safe place, in case Gibson goes belly-up and all file servers are shut down. Think a bit how Camel Audio gave access for a limited time to their full Alchemy installer files for registered users. What good does an off-line authorization if you do not have a program to start with? So - by all means off-line authorization, but that is not enough

JClosed Well - not only authorization is needed, but also ALL the install files you need to install the product.
Am I incorrect to assume we can get those now at the page in our cakewalk account? We should be downloading those and saving them somewhere safe.

Sorry - my bad. I always installed Sonar using the download center, but did not knew the program(s) was/where also available as separate (modular) downloads. Time to download some stuff and store it in a safe place I guess... ;-).
