I wholeheartedly agree. We have spent a lot of money on Sonar and I also paid for the Sonar Platinum Lifetime Updates in June 2016, along with many others. I want to and need to be able to install or reinstall Sonar on any compatible Windows computer now and into the future. Therefore, the licensing and authentication system needs to become an offline file-based or code-based authentication method that does not rely on an online system. This is the very least we should be offered. Regards, Steve

I have attempted to entice as many audio related companies as possible in the Twitter sphere by using the hashtag #savecakewalk it may help if we get enough retweets and shares to at least put it in front of them. I have tagged a ton of businesses and privately owned companies as well. Worst case scenario I have to use Platinum until it dies, but I still jave this glimmer of hope that an investor will seize the opportunity to snag up a solid force in the home studio/pro studio realm.

Many thanks for your post, Wibbles. If the statement you quoted: " If the Cake servers are to be shutdown all legal owners will be issued with a file that will allow for authorisation on new installs or reinstall's." is correct, that is encouraging news indeed, and I thank the Cakewalk developers for this kind offer. Thanks, Steve

Sorry, I meant to post the quote but somehow didn't. Yes it is encouraging news, but I would see it more as the customer's right (moral, if not legal) rather than a kind offer. But it's good to know contingency plans are being put in place.

Yes I've been absent from this forum for a while. For those of you that don't remember, I was the SONAR reviewer from versions SONAR Pro V4 thru 8.5 for Recording Mag. I left Recording's coverage of SONAR after the Roland buy-out because of my political position on the Japanese cetacean extermination policy, and Japan's reluctance to halt the destructive "fishing" of porpoises. Things got a little better, although they still have not met with my advocacy in this respect. So, when Gibson bought Cakewalk from Roland, I renewed my interest, again, and I subscribed to the Platinum lifetime upgrade policy of SONAR pro, and have not been dissatisfied. When I read Gibson's press release, I, again, became deeply saddened. I have maintained, throughout my coverage of SONAR and my most recent experiences with the application, that SONAR is the most technologically advanced DAW available (on any platform). To see it die as a result of corporate greed saddens me greatly. As for the Microsoft possibility, I just look at it as another big 'giant' taking control of a rather small part of their corporate interest. What SONAR needs is another Greg Hendershott. who can steer the company back to a successful path. I, seriously, think that an alternative should be proposed. I'm not sure how deep the SONAR collective pockets may be, but I think that the formation of some "Cakewalk Company" through croud founding may be the best avenue to keep our favorite DAW alive. I'm not a wealthy individual, but I'd gladly put up at least $1000 to get this thing off thi ground. John

Yes! We should be able to authorise software we paid good money for. I quote Craig Anderton in an interview I saw "Subscriptions allow for monthly updates, but if you decide to stop your subscription the software is yours to keep FOR EVER". So yea, they owe us at least that. By the way; I hope Gibson curls up and dies soon... Greedy tossers. My hope is someone might take the name and go back to building guitars like they did back before the horrible corporate buy-outs. Tokai would sort it out.

From what Craig Anderton said in another recent post it seems that Gibson were/are reluctant to explore any other options than closing it (Cakewalk) down.

Yes, sign me up as well please I saw the news only yesterday. Still in shock here. Unfortunately my suspicious nature when I subscribed to the "lifetime updates" is confirmed again. Seemed too good to be true. Hope that there is still a reasonable way out. I am even ready to go on an (reasonable) annual payment schedule again, if that helps a solution
