Phil.....Holy Schmokels!!!!  Wowza.  Fantastic collab on a very clever tune.
Scotty's fiddling around is always colorful, Tony's vocals are a nice soulful honey glaze over Ed's thundering bass and Danni's intense and relentless guitars and drums.
Stunning work.

Pretty great all around guys.

One thing that occurs to me is that you might try overcompressing it like so many pop tracks these days.  Seems like a lot of pop tracks have the FM radio type compression already applied.  I think it might work with this.

Anyway, great tune.  Great collaboration.  Very fun.

Peace,

Ian

I actually did try that, Ian. However, it really took away from the dynamics in the tune and there is so much going on in this, it sort of ruined the vibe. I'd rather a radio station compress it than me doing it on this end and degrading the tune. With radio, we know that's going to happen. The more dynamic you are pre-radio, the better off you are. We're still loud and proud, but we maintain dynamics which I thought was extremely important for this particular tune. Thanks for the kind words. :)

Wow! Wow! Wow!

Personally, I'd refrain from touching the compression knobs.

Vibes, dynamics, guitars, are awesome (on 1st listen)

Motown plus Southern rock (C. Daniels)?  Who would have thought of that?

The unlikely duet chemistry is, somehow, astonishing, pristine, and I love it!

Ooops, I didn't 'expect' the compressed outro vox (Tony) not fading with the rest of the Motown-oid colloboration (on 1st listen).  That would be my only gripe.

This is a great honor and privilage to listen to.  You won my heart and soul !!!

Wow, Bill and Frank both back for second helpings.  I'm impressed and grateful.  So-

Bill- Thank you and thank you.

Frank- Thank you and thank you.

Dan- Thank you, glad you liked it.  Yeah, I love the Eagles.  As far as being on the radio: wasn't my goal, but I wouldn't be unhappy if it happened

Ian- Many thanks for the listen and comments.  I was amazed when I looked at the mastered WAV as to what a great job Danny had done on preserving the dynamics.  I think for this particular song, it's exactly what it needed.

Danny and Tony- What is this a modesty contest or something??  Deep bows for both you guys!!!!  Maybe an encore too

Very nicely done.  Great melody in the chorus.  Arrangement is fantastic.  I'm curious to know what you use to Master the mix, if any.

He actually used me and lemme tell you, he was a slave driver! :)

I'll give you some info. Phil mixed the tune in Sonar 8.5.

It was pre-mastered in Isotope Rx 2 Advanced, Mastered in Sonar 8.5 with about 10 plugs and finalized in Wave Lab 6.

Your tune is fantastic! A bit bass heavy in my opinion which could be how YT squashed it. Some automation issues going louder and lower which you may want to take a look at. Excellent voice! Reminds me of Bono from U2 a bit...which I hope you take as a compliment. :) Make yourself your own thread on here and post up a high quality mp3. I think people will enjoy your song. Well done!

wow fantastic guys! Twisted's voice really gives it a smoothness where it needs it! great guitaring. Scott's fiddle sounds a little thin to me, but i appreciate it's working in a very busy sonic space, so that could be the only way you could get it to sit nicely! but a really really great mix, and a top song Phil!

I don't think Phil would mind, Ando. He's a very cool dude. If we got like a bunch of posts in this thread about your tune, he may get a bit peeved..lol..but he's a pretty easy going guy. To be honest, I would have done the same thing as you if I were to visit the forum and heard someone with a cool song that I might be able to gain some knowledge on. It never hurts to ask and it's always cool to deliver an apology...so you handled it well in my opinion. :)

Phil!!!!
Thanks for tipping me off to this one!  Awesome work from everyone involved.  Great pro sound and a really fun composition to bob my head to (and it's a'bobbin).  I'm on my 2nd trip through "the Rough Patch" and it's just as much a blast as the 1st time.   Gotta give it to Tony "twisted6s" and Danny for the back vocs and guitar.  Really set it off.  Oh!  But I don't wanna take away from everyone that contributed.  This is a gem for sure!
I put it on my SC station so that I can rock with it at work.  Will be sure to refer to this one anytime life brings me a rough patch.

Awesome job guys.

Tony's vocal is to die for here.  A really nice chunky 'Eye of the Tiger' type rhythm and Danni was so right to sit down and lay this one down properly from his stool.  Scotty's touches are just right pitched up there.

My only minor crit is for me the soloing on the outtro is so busy it's bordering on sounding like a cat fight and my personal feeling is that Tony should be leading it out over a bit more musical simplicity on that killer chorus vamp as that is the bit that is keeping me singing it after the event.

But as James said this is one of those real pearls that just hit you between the eyes every once in a while.

Absolutely killer piece pulled off with much aplomb.

Jon, you have no idea how much we discussed that outro! LMAO! You know Phil...the kind, considerate, thankful gracious soul that is just stoked beyond words to have great players in his corner. Well, with that mentality, there was no way he could cut any of us. He knew what would be better for the song....I said what I felt, Ed chimed in...and Phil made the decision of "I got all these great parts, I'm going to find a way to mix them all in to where they all can be heard. If it's a little busy, at least they are all there."

So trust me man..lol...we had the same crits as you! I actually wanted my guitar solo gone in the end...but Phil loved it...then we said "ok, maybe we can take the fiddle down a bit since it somewhat showcased itself throughout the song.....but Phil loved it....so then we said "maybe we can do this, or do that" and Phil just loved everything so Ed and I then decided "ok, he loves everything...lets set our sights on making it all work to where it's at least completely audible." So that's what we went for. :) Thanks for the kind words Jon and everyone else. :)

Wow - that was a great listen!  I love the arrangement and the mix.  A lot going on all over.  Great musicianship.  I really like the high gain guitar parts applied to a groove like this.  So many different elements wrapped up in a very cohesive arrangement.  Well Done!

Rick- Thanks so much for those very kind comments.  I really dig the Gents stuff, so this means alot.

Jules- Yes, it does do it justice, because it came from my favorite songstress.

Philip- Thanks.  Three wow's sounds pretty good to me.  Hope things are getting back to normal for you and your neighbors.

Mark (Marcos69)- Many thanks.

Herb- I'm glad that your glad.

Janet- Thanks so much.  And, hey, we could probably use a great pianist one of these days , so I'm hopin' you were serious.

Mike- Thanks for dropping by, and I'm really glad you liked it.

Ando- First off: welcome to the forum.  Thank you for the kind words, and let's get that tune of yours back on here.  I see Danny already replied re- the mastering.

Mark (MGH)- Wow, great ears, my friend... you're right... I had to thin Scotty out just a tad to keep the fiddle and Danny's guitar away from each other.  But, shhhh... don't tell Scotty

Arlen- A warm welcome to you too, and thanks so much for the add to your station.  I feel honored, and I know I'm in some real good company there.

More later.... I kinda' hit a rough patch, but I'll be back.
