mixmkr I'd be very much interested in the stuff you'd like to part with. That said, I built some absorbers in my studio and it was the best money I ever invested, and it wasn't that much. Couple hundred built a bunch. I even covered some with grill cloth to make them look snazzy on the walls... Let me know if you're still looking for a home for your "dusty" friends. You got 'em, first come first served. Sent you a PM. Jeff

Jeff, The fiberglass absorbers will make a huge difference. It may be all you need. You earlier asked if they can also be bass traps. The short answer is yes. Bass traps ARE absorbers. They are just designed to convert lower frequencies into heat. It you are using OC703 or 705, you really need at least 3 inches depth to make a real effect on bass. Also, you should try to mount them with a bit of space between the backing and the wall. That way, you can get a bit of resonance "trapping" as well. My panel are 2'x4' (size of the OC panels). I have placed a couple of them against the corners of my room. That leaves a lot of space behind them with you can then fill with additional absorption material. While not the best traps money can buy, they are pretty effective. If bass is the issue, go with the thickest you can get away with. Put them in the corners. Place some of the panels at reflection pints, and voila!

You might want to check this out: http://www.homestudiocorner.com/webinar/ I went the DIY route and built panels using the method in the YouTube video mentioned earlier in this thread. Another option is that Auralex offers free room treatment plans (utilizing their products of course) but you can replicate it going the DIY route.

I decided to put my mixing desk on the 12'foot side of the rectangle. This leaves about 10' to the rear wall. How much space does this leave behind your monitors?

downsouthstudio lavoll I made these for my own studio. Rockwool sound panels built into a frame so they are a few cm away from the wall, cover in fabric from ikea... probably exactly like in the video :) Very cheap if you are handy with a hammer... which I am not, but I have good friends who are :) 2*2 panels on the sides of me a big huge square of 4 of them right in from of me /back of speakers, and a similarly big on at an angle in the ceiling right above where I am sitting. And I am pimping the sides of these with LED lights (also from ikea) :) looks terrible cheesy (which was the effect I wanted). lets see if i can insert an image.... _________________________________________ Great job ! They look nice. Cant wait to see the lights. :>) Jeff i apologize for the cell phone quality photo... it is starting to look like this:

and nevermind the little strange feet+stand combination under the speakers :) the Events usually live on a huge desk in the neighbour studio, but the owner there is going on a tour, so I am babysitting these until he comes back :)

Hey Downsouth and all... I have just completed the acoustic treatment of my one room studio (approx 10x11') and it is the BEST investment that I have done. Music sounds really well defined with excellent stereo separation. The thing that got me going on this was analysing the room acoustics with the free download RoomEQWizard http://www.hometheatershack.com/roomeq/. This showed huge uneveness in the bass end of the spectrum caused by cancellation and enforcements. Four membrane traps (2'x2') on the back wall have really sorted this. 2 were tuned to 63 Hz, and 2 were tuned to 110 Hz. I have enough clutter on the side walls to act as diffusers so reverb time is not an issue for me. A good simple test for bass issues is to generate a pure sine tone at say 70 Hz (try differerent ones) and walk around your room. I was amazed at how the sound rose and fell in different locations. Fitting bass traps has drastically reduced these variations. The other big improvement I have made is on the stereo definition. I used a pure sinewave at 1000 Hz and that switched totally from left to right every few seconds. Even sitting in what I thought was the "sweet spot" I was really stunned by sometimes not being able to tell which speaker the sound was coming from. This was due to reflections off the montor screen and desk. After lots of experimentation I fitted two strips of acoustic absorbing foam that run vertically either side of my monitor. I can now here stereo information much clearer in my mixes. I hope these comments are useful. Jamie
