Sir Les
If you turn off plug and play in the bios and boot up into windows os does it show up in device manager with a yellow exclamation mark?

Sorry Les, I must have missed this from you earlier. I haven't tried turning off the plug and play, but I can tell you that NOTHING appears in the device manager for a firewire device at all. That's why this is so frustrating...if it was showing up with an exclamation mark, I could probably figure out what to do to get it working. But it doesn't even list a FW device as ever being installed. When the Saffire Pro is connected and powered on, if I start the control software for it - it just comes up saying that "No device is connected".

That tip, was to get the bios to take control of installed cards with in windows...turning off Plug and play gives the bios control over devices...supposedly.

So when turning off Plug and Play in Bios, the bios raster is used to configure the setup in device manager.
If you did do it, and nothing shows up...then I would say perhaps what Alex stated...update the bios.
Which is probably your best bet anyway...and see what happens with plug and play enabled.

Asus site has new bios for your board, stating a device issue fix...may as well get all the latest drivers and use them as well.

Maarkr
if you installed a new Z87 mobo why didn't u get a version with firewire on the board?  i put a Saffire pro 24 with my Z77 mobo and no issues.  unless there's something with the new Z87 drivers not talking with the firewire hdwe???

Hi everybody, i have seen that the problem was solved. I have a question specially to Maarkr, I am going to upgrad my computer and chang my motherboard for a 787 chipset and purchase "the Saffire pro 24" soundcard but i received an email from , telling me that they have actually seen consistent issues with the Intel Z77/87 chipset. So for the saffire users in this forum with the Z77/87 chipset did you experienced any problems??
Thanks on advance, i really like this sound card and i don't want to upgrad my computer for something older...

Hi sforouhi, I had some  crackles and pops with the saffire pro 40 here,
but I don´t think that it had something to do with the Z 77 chipset.

Still I´m thankful to Cake´s Alex for his tips.
If you are interested, read this:

The saffire here runs since then as stable as a rock.

Have fun
