SONAR 2017.10 Update Now Available!

The 2017.10 Update for SONAR Artist, Professional, and Platinum features 5 new Big Fish Audio Loop Collections, a new amp and cab for Overloud in TH3 Cakewalk edition, and a mega load of fixes and enhancements to the SONAR you know and love.

Big Fish Audio Loop Library

(SONAR Artist, Professional, Platinum)

Cakewalk has joined forces with Big Fish Audio to provide all SONAR customers with a truly amazing array of loop content in the form of construction kits that will help you kick start any musical project. All SONAR customers now get 5GB of premium loops from one of the best curators of loop content in the business. These are split into popular genres for easy downloading of whatever you need when you need it. We’ll be featuring more of Big Fish Audio’s stunning content in the Cakewalk store, so stay tuned.

Big Fish - Cinematic Loop Collection: From ambient guitars to cinematic percussion and soundbeds, these libraries provide atmospheres, deeply processed leads, arpeggiated swells, drones, mixes of percussive and melodic elements, chimes, noise, and other innovative loops. These sounds are ideal for today's film and TV industry soundtracks, cutting-edge sound design, chill and ambient music, or adding unique touches to any kind of contemporary styles including EDM and rock.

Big Fish - Country Loop Collection: Whether you want old-timey music like bluegrass, western swing, and traditional country loops or the fresh, new face of modern country that has earned its place in today’s pop charts, these libraries deliver. You’ll also find neo-folk that provides the distinctive, roots-oriented sound of Americana, along with  acoustic guitar and mandolin loops with intros and endings, verses, choruses, bridges, chord libraries, and more to provide a wide variety of creative options in your productions.

Big Fish - Electro Pop Loop Collection: These libraries provide extra flexibility for all flavors of EDM by providing the stems for drum loops (snare, kick, hi-hat, etc. loops) along with the individual hits needed to create your own drum loops. Choose from fat drums, sick drops, soaring synth leads, builds, basses, synth leads, pads, percussion, FX, chords, melody lines, and more—all cut into sections for easy arranging, and stylistically similar to the chart-topping music of artists like David Guetta and Skrillex.

Big Fish - Rock & Pop Rock Loop Collection: Whether you need an indie rock groove to kick start a song or a pop-rock guitar lick to add some attitude to your next hit, these loops excel for songwriting, trailers, commercials, sound design, and television. Instruments include 12-string, electric, and acoustic guitars along with drums, bass, mandolins, and percussion (which is suitable for all kinds of music, not just rock).

Big Fish - Urban Loop Collection: From the hard-hitting, hip-hop club vibe, to the laid-back R&B feel, to the speaker-destroying 808s and sinister leads of Trap, these loops cover the latest in musical styles. In addition to folders with loops, many construction kits also feature drum track stems, individual drum hits to make your own loops, and even MIDI files for total control over each track’s melodic content when using your own virtual instruments.

Overange Amp & 2x12 British State (UK) Cab

(SONAR Artist, Professional, Platinum)

There is a brand new amp and cab now in TH3 Cakewalk ready to give your next track an authentic vintage tone. This is the Overange 120 amp modeled after the Orange Graphic 120 mkII and the 2x12 British State (UK) based on the Marshall Valvestate. This Orange meets Black combo is perfect for getting some haunting tones, iconic from the 70's.

30th Anniversary Anderton Collection FX Chains

These FX Chains are Craig Anderton’s latest versions of his go to signal flows that he uses in his productions. Some of these FX Chains are updates of processors included in previous releases. Some were introduced in the “Friday’s Tip of the Week” thread in the SONAR forums, but as “do it yourself” projects with instruc ons on how to assign the controls—now they’re convenient downloads. We hope you enjoy what these processors can do to help take your projects to the next level—download them, play with them, and have fun!

So... why are the loops under Sonar Platinum AND Big Fish Audio Loop Content?

I want to be able to "Update All" for Sonar but does that mean I'll be installing a bunch of loops I don't really want?

This is interesting. I was trying to pull down all the volume automation nodes in the bus pane yesterday and I had no idea what the tooltip was saying. If it now tells me the actual amount I'm adjusting in the tooltip I'll be thrilled!

EDIT: I stand corrected.... I still have no idea what the tooltip is telling me when moving multiple nodes. I can't find any info about this in the documentation either. There are two numbers in the tooltip and I cannot for the life of me connect the values with the moves I'm making.

I guess you could hide them all, (this may take a little time as you can only hide one at a time, and it re scans for updates between each one, but thankfully doesn't seem to be a full scan like when starting up first time) that's what I did, the loops and the 30 anniversary stuff are of no interest to me. First time I've bothered updating in a few months, thought I would just check out how it's traveling.

You don't seem to be able to hide the Top level of the loops though, only the children.

That was weird.

After installing the update, an old problem has returned in which there is no audio other than a couple of clicking noises, and my reverb and master bus meters are solidly pegged at +9dB. As before, restarting SONAR made the problem go away.

A number of people had reported this symptom a few months ago, but I hadn't seen it or any reports of it in quite a while.

So- maybe a goofy question - but I'm not a loop user, does the download allow me to skip the 5 gig bloat? - AND - I very much appreciate the transport fix for the auto punch. It has happened sporadically on my system. Thanks be to Cake for the update.

If you are not interested in them just hide them (see above) they shouldn't be then included in the update all, but I have never used the 'update all', but it would be pretty silly if it did install/update stuff you had hidden.

The loops are an option to install...youll just always see the orange asterisk, for the OCD users! Unpacked it seemed to end up being more around 16 gigs...is what I think I saw.

As mentioned by someone earlier (perhaps another thread) the Big Fish stuff originally was listed twice (Don't know if still?), once under SONAR Platinum as separate items, as well as separately under the Big Fish parent 'folder' I had to hide them all twice. I have each of them listed twice in the 'Hidden Items' list, I just un hid one now to check and it places it back under the Big Fish Parent, and if I unhide its duplpicate it places it back under the 'SONAR Platinum' parent, which may install with a 'install all'?.

Why dont you fix MIDI triggering wrong tracks and sending MIDI to All tracks when supposed to send to one, and Play button triggering last played MIDI notes? It is so frustrating to always wondering, "Why do I hear this Drum loop when I am on Synth instrument?" Or be startled when all tracks suddenly get triggered without warning by pressing a key. You just keep fixing minor things that never even happening. I get shut with uncontrollable amount of sound in my ears unexpectedly when I press a key on keyboard because all tracks get triggered instead of one, but you dont think it is something to worry about? What about Stop button being grayed out when using Kontakt instrument? Ok, it only happens with Sequence, but would you not want to know how they did it and help them fix it? Now that you collaborating with Big Fish Audio- Sequence is their product. What about fixing Copy/Paste function? For no reason, it just does not Paste. When are you planning to address it? Thank you.

Could someone remind me, in as simple (non-IT expert) language as possible, of how to make sure the new loops are installed on some drive (say, "H:") other than my very-small-and-already-overburdened C: drive?

Do I need to create a directory junction? I remember doing this last year, but I would need to find the instructions again.

If so, how would the procedure differ from the usual Command Center update - what would I need to do differently?

Thanks, and sorry if this is a dumb question!

You can set paths for content in the options of CCC.

[edit]And perhaps select the advanced install option, can't recall exacltly what it's called at present, but it allows more control.

[edit] Verbose install is what it's called

16 GB? Yikes! I, too, prefer to keep those kinds of large folders off the C: drive. Where, exactly, are those loops stored? I've run a search for "big fish*", "bigfish*" and "big_fish*" on C: but found nothing.

Mine went here:

C:\Cakewalk Content\Audio Library\Big Fish Audio

It is only 5 GB.

I assume the default location is set by the "Wave File" Folder Location in the File - Folder Location preferences.

Thanks, husker. It would seem that CCC does not install them by default unless they're explicitly selected, even when clicking "Update All". Which is good because as a non-looper (aloopist?) I don't really want them anyway.

We initially had these setup under SONAR but decided to break these out as their own Product to keep them better organized. We also wanted to keep the list of child products under SONAR from growing any larger than it currently is. We also found that if we need to update them, they will get mixed with the other child products of SONAR which would make looking at the list hard to understand for new customers.

These should no longer be showing up in 2 places, but let us know if you see issues with it still.

yes...I concur...the Big Fish library is only 5.22 GB.  I was mistaken above.  That said, my Cakewalk Content folder is approaching 30GB, while the "audio" folder within the Cakewalk Content folder is 12+GB.

With a regular 1 TB "C" drive, there's plenty of space.  Meanwhile my D, E...etc drives for samples, projects, etc are 2 TB drives and even with video still have plenty of space.  Until SSD drives up the capacity, I'll stick with these.

Lastly...when installing the Big Fish library...I could see where they were going, watching the install.  They went to my "D"/audio drive...which is ok...but I then moved them to my C drive where all my other Cakewalk content has installed by default.  That way I'm not jumping all over my computer for that kind of stuff.

These should no longer be showing up in 2 places, but let us know if you see issues with it still.

My CC still shows them in two places.  I did do a rescan.

Can you try logging out and back in to C3?

Great!! Great guys!!

Thanks for the fixes! Fixing the Time Ruler back to normal and also adding the option to touch select track in the Console View are wonderful!! Thanks for listening to our requests and comments! What would be nice for some point in the future is to check out some commands like Narrow/Widen tracks are in the Keyboard Shortcuts but not in the ACT list of commands or in the Custom Commands in the Control Bar. If Narrow/Widen were in the list of commands it would be the perfect workflow at least for me!!

Again THANKS!! :)

Logging out and back into CC did the trick.
