Greetings, planist planist, I'm interested ... did you ever get any feedback from the Bakers about this list ? Did you also send it in on paper through snail mail ? Or did it all fall on deaf ears ... ? Thanks.

Some new and useful FRs concerning general handling in TV. 1. Move multiple tracks to another location by selecting multiple tracks and then dragging them to the destination. 2. Set Now Time during playback not only by clicking on the Ruler bar in TV, but e.g. Right-click + Alt on empty space in TV. (Option "Alt+Right Click sets Now Time during Playback" can be e.g. implemented in View Options below the new Option "Left Click Locks Scroll") 3. The Scroll option already exists. For both options (Set Now time during playback and Scroll) keybindings would be nice. 4. Configs of menus such as Clone TRack, Quantize, Groove Quantize, etc. of should be memorized during one project or session or be saveable in global or project options.

Hi Sonartist, thanks for having interest ;) There was feedback. Many of the FRs were and are sent via the official website FR page - as far is i have heard also via the Beta-Testing channels. This list intents to push Cakewalk towards certain Features or Streamlining aspects they should implement. Everyone is welcome: Besides listing the FRs we also should priorize them.

Snap To Grid - Streamlining Now: An open Snap to Grid impedes working in other windows. You always have to close the windows first. (since 8.0 only by clicking on the little x on the top, since there is no ok or cancle button anymore.) REQUEST: - Make this a litte floating window or a option dialog in the transport or a dialog in the toolbar on the top. - Make settings like Whole, 16th, etc. Keybind-able, like the nudge settings.

I like the idea of having Snap to Grid be a floating window. That way one can go back to it at any time to make changes without having to open it all the time. I would also like for the toolbars to be float-able windows as well. I like working with the Event Inspector, so having it as a floating windows would make for a killer feature. This would allow me to easily move it on top of the PRV and input data into it. However, this would require for the Event Inspector to always be on top, and not hide behind the PRV (or any view for that matter).

WORKFLOW ENHANCEMENTS Some of the long awaited - workflow improving - features like Aim Recording during Playback or Lock Scroll found their way into Sonar. Now, in order to streamline the general handling in Sonar further i compiled some more suggestions, which i think are equally important. (Please comment if you want to add something) - Keybindings
- Possibility to set keybindings for ALL functions that are available, e.g.:
- Snap to Grid Resolution Options - 16th, 16thT, etc., (Keybind-able, like the nudge settings)
- Transport Rewind/Forward (not Rewind W, not Space)
- Left click locks Scroll on / off
- Flexible Zoom Functions (e.g. ALT and drag mouse left/right = Zoom IN/OUT horizontally, SHIFT + up/down = vertically)
- maybe also context sensitive keybindings, e.g.: opening a dialog like snap to grid via "c" and when active and open close it with "c" again.
- Playback
- Set Now Time during playback not only by clicking on the upper measure bar but also by e.g. Alt+Shift+Left Click on empty space in Track View, Piano Roll View (= much smoother handling of playback and shorter mouse paths while editing a specific part)
- A markers "playlist" to auditioning sections of a song in different orders (rtgraham's wish for Sonar 3). Or even better: Possibility to set different loops, name them and assign these loops to the matrix view
- Most of the functions which - from a users point of view - should not necessarily require a stop of playback, e.g.: bounce to clip, transpose audio, stretch audio, clip fx, draw envelope, etc.
- Zoom and Scroll
- Center now time during playback on / off (Now-Time stays in center of view)
- Vertical track size should be made half the size (half track like in cubase. This doubles the number of tracks visible in TV.
- Zooming functions: more steps (smoother) and extremer values vertically AND horizontally (more on the screen)
- Scrolling is too important a function to leave as (more or less) a byproduct of how PC keyboards happen to work. Possible combinations with mouse and the keyboard could be
- to ZOOM in both directions there could be something like moving the mouse (leftright/updown) while pressing a key
- to SCROLL the same with another key
- Misc.
- Configs of menus should be memorized during one project or session or be saveable in global or project options, e.g.
- such as Clone Track, Quantize, Groove Quantize, etc. of
- Global Grid Setting for one Project (TV, Piano Roll View)
- Make Snap To Grid and similar menus more streamlined e.g. a litte floating window or a option dialog in the transport or a dialog in the toolbar on the top.
- Envelopes
- Possibility to disable envelopes
- Folders
- Folder in Folder
- Folders could have faders for gain, pan

(Lossl) step sequencer: - easy way to simply scroll up / down in order to use all octaves without having to add each lane manually - per step adjustability of note length (for note lengths not exactly fitting into the grid) - per step adjustability of velocity, etc MIDI handling: - easy way to paint a new empty MIDI clip into the timeline of the track view, which -when doubleclicked- is opened in the PRV in the correct zoom ratio (if painted clip is 8 measures long, PRV timeline zoom is set to display exactly these selected 8 measures) general handling: - a way to set the groove clip function as default for audio and midi clips - deletion of tracks should be possible by simply clicking the "del" key for the selected track - Sonar´s tools could be better integrated in general as some features feel more like dealing with external programs like VST or Rewire ie. there could be a quick link to the channel tools VST (ie by doubleclicking the pan bar of a track), V-Vocal & Audiosnap should be totally integrated in the Loop Manager View, etc. synth rack: - when deleting a synth, all related MIDI & audio tracks should be deleted aswell - having said that, there should also be a function to replace a synth by another one while retaining all related tracks including their data (SongCraft) http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=1926170 (evansmalley) I've got a few- 1. global "all solo off" mappable to a keyboard shortcut! 2. set "locates 1-9", to number pad- different from markers or now time- being able to set a current "locate" without it being the "now" time which selections often overwrite. It's a drag to set a now and then select anything and have it change your now time! (Markers are close to this, but it'd be much faster to set and access locates from a shortcut than from the mouse). 3. couple things from Avid: "select all after now", select all before now"... it's a single shortcut but a huge time saver when editing. And drag-and-drop render effects which you can drag onto the timeline and render- for dissolves, special effects, etc... 4. VARI-SPEED!

Hey Planist, Sonar can already do some of the things you have mentioned here. I'll point them out below: planist Keybindings Left click locks Scroll on / off Just click on the Audio/MIDI clip to enable Scroll Lock. Click on an empty space in the Clip's Pane to disable it. It's really awesome the way they Cakewalk did this. Flexible Zoom Functions (e.g. ALT and drag mouse left/right = Zoom IN/OUT horizontally, SHIFT + up/down = vertically) You can do something similar with the Zoom Tool which lets you zoom in an area very quickly by holding down "Z" while you highlight it with the mouse. You can also zoom in/out by holding down "Ctrl" and using the Arrow keys to zoom in vertically/horizontally. Zoom and Scroll Scrolling is too important a function to leave as (more or less) a byproduct of how PC keyboards happen to work. Possible combinations with mouse and the keyboard could be to ZOOM in both directions there could be something like moving the mouse (leftright/updown) while pressing a key to SCROLL the same with another key Same as above. Possibility to disable envelopes You can enable/disable automation globally or per track in Sonar with the Automation Toolbar and the READ button found on each track. Take care!

proper snap to grid implementation - so that when snap to grid is on, the grid lines are always viewable (no point turning it on if you can't see the grid lines you are trying to snap to) Proper "split" at M:B:T - at the moment (sonar 8/8.5 at least), the split is always defaulted to the nearest sample. now of course this makes since as you can't split a sample. But i suggest when zoomed in 100%, it splits at the selected M:B:T as the user wants, while behind the scenes sonar could actually split at the nearest sample (but just masking it from the user). After trying to align over 14 vocal tracks and multiple custom/percussive sample tracks today (similar to an experimental Imogen Heap tune), it just drove me nuts as i got to the end and it was getting more and more out of time). Nobody should have to do workarounds for simple tasks. savable custom toolbars: ie exportable

If you disable it, Sonar will cut your audio at the exact points you want (without having to zoom in). Otherwise, if enabled, it will find the nearest zero crossing point in order to avoid clicks when cutting audio. EDIT: Ahhh! You've actually found a bug. It is supposed to work the way I explained above, but it is not working in Sonar 8.5.2. It works properly in Sonar 8.3.1 though. Well thanks for bringing this up. Time to report this to Cakewalk -_-. savable custom toolbars: ie exportable I'm sure you know you can currently save custom Toolbars. But being able to export them will indeed be a welcomed adition. Take care!

While on the topic of bugs, 8.x - Edit > Split > "use non-destructive cropping..." tick box does not work. it stays in its current state. But to make it work... Options > "use non-destructive MIDI editing" works on/off....and if you check back in the edit > split, it still doesn't work. THe first time I upgraded and lost my custom toolbars I threw a major fit. LOL! Glad I'm not the only one wicked.

track view > maximize folder group toggle button (containing 3 acoustic guitars for example) makes the tracks contained in the folder zoomed to full vertical view. (not like it is at present, just the folder enlarges, which is useless)
