You have to question the sanity of anyone who doesn't like Indian food...uh, never mind, we're talking about bapu. There is no question.

Call me crazy--I have to admit that Indian cuisine wouldn't be my first choice. I've had some good and some bad. I don't know why I haven't made more of a habit of it. But I am willing to give a restaurant a try if you're recommending it.

I've enjoyed Indian food in several countries (sadly, India not being among them; someday..). The best ever was, oddly enough, in Massachusetts. It was a home-cooked extravaganza put together by a friend's mom who was visiting from India. Second- and third-best were both in California, with number three being the aforementioned restaurant on Katella Avenue. Researchers in the UK have discovered that curry is actually addictive. I concur. Just walking into an Indian or Pakistani restaurant and sniffing the air is enough to start my stomach growling in anticipation. Still, I realize that for many Americans, vindaloo might seem a tad exotic. Maybe if they served it with mashed potatoes or fries. Old55, if you're feeling more adventurous than Ed, perhaps you'd like to join us for the lunch buffet one day that week. I know I'll be going there at least once, maybe twice while I'm in town. (Despite being in Southern California, Anaheim seems curiously bereft of any good Mexican food, which would normally be my second choice behind Indian. Now I'm getting hungry...)

FWIW, I *love* Indian Food... am lucky enough to have several very close Indian friends who are fabulous cooks and like to invite me to Dinner, Diwali & Holi Parties. I've even started making a lot of it, because these shindigs are potlucks... They always tease me about my Italian/Indian food... :lol

I've enjoyed Indian food in several countries (sadly, India not being among them; someday..) Yeah, you gotta get to India. I was lucky enough to get to go there on business and the office manager there took us to the most fantastic restaurants I've ever been to. We made it to Mumbai and New Delhi. (kinda like New Orleans vs. New York) India Air airplane food however is probably the most revolting I've ever had.

Im wondering if the local food in other countries carriied the "warning" not to eat certain dishes? When I was a civilian contractor I worked a job at the h Air Base in Turkey and was told not to eat fresh veggies or salads out on the economy because the crops are watered by sewage water. Interestingly enough, I got sick eating at the base cafeteria...

bitflipper I found this this place on the web--could it be the place you're thinking of? There's not much info about entertainment, though. http://www.pop-the-cork.com/ Yeh, I'm pretty sure that's the place I remember. I am not even a wine drinker, much less a connoisseur, but for me the primary qualification for a meeting-place is relative quiet. We want the primary noise source to be bapu, not Muzak. The entertainment I alluded to was something out of the ordinary that I think they were doing to try and lure some NAMM traffic into their shopping mall. It was actually listed in the NAMM program guide, which is how I found out about it last year. I don't see anything about it on the NAMM site yet, though. The Jazz Kitchen sounds like someplace I'd enjoy a lot, but probably not a great place to go for conversation. Thanks for checking it out. Thanks for the link with the video, I see kind of like a technology fair. I was beginning to worry you all were gathering to plan another invasion of Vietnam... What's up with the badges just tell them "we don't need no stinking badges" CA$H DAWG BOY SOME people are SOOOOO finicky.... No Beer, No Indian Food, No Mooch, pick me up at the curb,,, yada yada.... just funning ,wish i could be there oh snap forgot to log out Im busted..... or AM I? I wasn't fooled for a moment or was I?

Thanks for the invitation. I'll keep it in mind. If I'm able to get a pass to NAMM, I'm in. If not, there's still a fair chance that I can get away from work for a while. Sorry, I can't help with any suggestions for Mexican restaurants in that area. I'll see if I can spot one when I do my recon. In the meantime, you might find something of interest on this Best Of OC list: http://www.ocregister.com/sections/bestofoc/ I already checked--the Mexican restaurants listed are not that close. Don Jose's has a location in Anaheim, but it's several miles away.

Unfortunately, dining options around Disneyland are pretty limited and feature bland menus so as not to offend the tourists. If you really want to challenge your immune system, try the garbage they serve outside the convention center! Or, if you're really brave - or foolhardy - see if you can keep down the crap they serve inside. Discovering the Indian joint was a breath of fresh air. Last year I ate there every day. I was first introduced to Indian and Pakistani food while living in Oxford. It just happened to be the only restaurant in town open after 8pm. Yeh, Oxford - at least in those days - was surprisingly dull for a college town. Too many eggheads not inhaling, maybe. They rolled up the sidewalks around 8. But one amazing meal of curried lamb and vegetables was all it took, and I was hooked for life. Julianna, you should come down and have lunch with us. Let me know if this place is as good as I think it is. Or, we could just all show up at your place.

Haha speak for yourself bit! lamo! bitflipper Anaheim? Holy cow... I may just be able to do that... Think the Mr. will have a fit? Probably. Might have to drag him with me.... I'm glad you saw this, Julianna. I was hoping you'd consider popping down. Sure, bring the old man. Once he sees this crowd you won't have to worry about him ever being jealous of the time you spend here with us.

Correct. I suggested the Garden Walk because there are numerous eateries and watering holes within, and it's a short walk from my hotel. Weather permitting, we could even hang out at the pool at the hotel, but there is no beverage service there.

Consider it done, Lance. We'll make sure you have beer. Personally, I am no longer allowed to drink alcohol for medical reasons. However, I am content to enjoy other, non-fermented but equally natural attitude adjusters that assure a good time will be had in any venue.

I'd luv to see you guys and gals in Cali ... though I believe I'm officially restricted from going to NAMM 2011 itself (seeing I'm not a political trade entity ... yet) Maybe we (or Bit) should start our own Sonar Woodstock Rally or something, and invite each other and speakers ... let the tradestars come or whosoever will, to pay for our lectures and lodging at a Marriot. We could: 1) take turns speaking/joking/singing on this topic or that (of each our choosing) and/or 2) relish each others musical quirks and dreams 3) Plan a collab or 2 4) bring our easels and oil paints ... so I can paint oil-sketch/portraits of some of you. 5) Watch some of your lap-top studios and VSTs 6) See who will be the life of the party, etc. (Just dreamin')

We could: 1) take turns speaking/joking/singing With bapu in the group, and assuming he talks as prolifically as he writes in the CH, "taking turns" might require one of those machines that dispense numbered tickets at the DMV. Middleman, I hope that even if you can't get a badge you'll consider stopping down for a visit anyway. And if you can't, there are alternate potential avenues for obtaining one. If all else fails there's always Photoshop.

Sadly, all my talking that night will not increase my (matters not) post count. There's an idea. I'll bring my laptop and hookup a speech to text converter. Every one of my speaking "turns" will become a real time blog into the CH (independent posts of course!)

Just a bump to keep this on page one for awhile, in hopes that some of the other forum regulars that attend NAMM might see it. We have yet to settle on the exact meeting place. I imagine the mall must have a telephone number and a live person who works there that I can ask for a recommendation. I'll check that out.

There are two hotels right next door and there may be a nice restaraunt at the top of their towers. Alternatively one of them has a restaruant in the base, this is the Hilton. There is also the Marriott as well right there.

There are two hotels right next door and there may be a nice restaraunt at the top of their towers. Alternatively one of them has a restaruant in the base, this is the Hilton. There is also the Marriott as well right there. Both are bad choices, I'm afraid. Both venues are jam-packed and extremely noisy, especially the Hilton. The pool area at the Marriot is better, but also crowded and the drinks are expensive. To find a quieter setting you have to get away from the convention center. The Garden Walk mall is only a couple blocks away, has plenty of parking and multiple restaurants and bars within. If the weather is accommodating, there are outdoor seating areas as well. I do like the Marriott foyer as a live-music venue, though. If you get there early you can snag a comfy couch, and the acoustics are far better than at the Hilton. No NAMM badge or invitation required, BTW. Russel: yes, I plan on posting again this year. This time, I'll make sure I take along the necessary accessories. One year I forgot my camera and had to borrow one. Another year I forgot that the camera needed a separate charger and could only snap photos until the charge ran down. Last year I forgot the mini USB cable so I couldn't transfer photos to my laptop until I got home. I have a bad habit of just leaving town with no preparation, preferring to travel light and assuming that anything I've forgotten I can do without for a week. This time, though, I'll be prepared. No, really. It could happen.
