shawn i think your a really good guy and please forgive me if there is some real reason you are posting songs in the main forum for a reason.
but is it not unfair to other users that you have the right to put your new songs in places where tons of traffic is but the rest of us must put them in the song forum where they see a less amount of traffic.

its not fair to the rest of us.

this part of the forum is for sonar x1/x2 general discussions (and tech support)

if your disguising this as a general discussion thread and conviently posting your new song in it,thats just not right at all either.

[sarcasm]

Yeah, Shawn! You have to get express written consent from Cakewalk before you can post an off topic thread in the main forum.

It can be done, it may just take one of us commoner's a little longer.

[/sarcasm]

Sonar is totally awesome!

And you put out some excellent work with it! I always enjoy your music.

I'm working on several tunes now that I'm almost ready to post in the songs forum. Can't wait to get feedback on them. All done in Sonar X2a.

Thanks,

Bub

how about you do the right thing and remove the link
wouldnt that be fair to all of us rather than just saying ignore it?

because if your being truley honest and just put the link there  as an after thought just simply remove it.
you know how i feel about sonar,i think its awesome too.

this is the second time that i know of you have put your songs in the main forum rather than the song forum where they belong.

i just cant help but think if every user posted a "sonar is awesome" o by the way here is my new song,it would take users with real issues years to sift through helpful threads.

I have no problem with the OP having a link to his music. I don't see any harm in it. Nor do I believe it violates any rules. The forum software has the linking ability built in whats wrong in members using it? I link to pictures from time to time. Others have links in there signature I don't see how that is bothersome. Would it be better if it were in the sig Charlie?

Meh. I link songs up here... well I link to the link in the Songs forum but I think if the song is done using the specific software this subforum is for I don't think it's OT. Showcases what people are doing with the X series. It is better to include some description of your methods so others can learn something new or unique.

And yes... Shawn is a good guy.

Shawn -

THANK YOU for starting a "positive" thread, and to MOST of the other posters for keeping it going in a similar direction!

It's nice to see some positive commentary for a change, and while CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is generally a good thing, even that seems to be missing around here lately!

So thanks for posting AND sharing your music, regardless of which thread it's in.

And to pre-emptive strike any negative backlash ~ while I'm just a hobbyist in the world of music, and my post count is still relatively low, I've been a registered Cakewalk user since their software showed up on 3.5" floppies, so I guess my opinions my be worth as much as the always-negative posters with higher counts...

Charlie I don't think you know me at all. I can see an objection when someone is doing something that is disruptive. I'm not pleased when some one is trying to sell me something and using this forum to do it. I see no harm what so ever in some one trying to be informative. In my view the tile on this thread is more than enough explanation. The link is saving a lot of words.

Why you infer that I can be blinded by a word is rather a little insulting. The nature of my post above did no such thing in that there was no insult. All I did was show a little inconsistency in what you ask others to do and what you are doing. What I didn't do was ask you or anyone to remove anything.

One neat thing about links is no one is forced to click on them.

I hope you are doing well and are not in any difficulty with the snow.

Craig Anderton did it the other day, where was the outrage then?

Craig had special permission from the people at Cakewalk and there was a reason behind it. Although I don't remember the reason. I got to agree with Charlie on this. I think he has the right take on it. I also believe it is OK to put links to your music or your website in the signature.

I should also say that I have heard some of Shawn's music. I liked it.

If people start posting songs in the x2 forum then it will become cluttered with threads to sift through and it will take away from the focus of X2. I suspect that is the reason for the song forum in the first place.

I do think on occasion when a song is posted it should be displayed with some sort of recording tip, like when Beepster posted his songs about TH2 producer tones. Those songs were recorded for the express purpose of displaying what the capabilities were in TH2 and not to promote Beepster's personal songs that he records and writes. There is a difference.

How many people called for God Particle to Display his work in this X2 area?. I think these are exceptions to the rule and serve to highlight X2 not the individual. That is where you draw the line.

Craig Anderton did it the other day, where was the outrage then?

Craig had special permission from the people at Cakewalk and there was a reason behind it.
The reason behind his post was the fact I made a comment in another thread to something of the effect that some of the people who claim to be professionals here have never posted a song. That's where it stemmed from.

It's not a big deal, I'm just pointing out that Shawn came on, stated how much he liked Sonar, gave an example of what you can do with it, and that's exactly what Craig did in his post.

Seems there's a dual standard here determined by status.

Shawn's a really nice guy and does incredible work with Sonar, in a genre that most of us old timers aren't too keen on. I think he's a prime example of just how versatile Sonar can be.

Anyway, not a big deal.

Thanks

I don't dispute anything you just said, especially when it comes to Shawn and his music. Like I said, I have heard his stuff before. I don't think it is a major crime, but I do think it is something to take note of for future reference.

When I clicked on the topic it did appear to me to be more of an ad for his music then to express how great sonar is. This was my first impression.

Shawn did remove the link. I would say to Shawn, put the link in your signature and I will give it a listen! Your music has always been pretty good and I am sure I won't be disappointed.

double standard? that may be, but I would seek permission before putting something in this area. I think Shawn had good intentions. I think he is a good guy. So yes no big deal.

Not to worry Charlie. Nothing has changed between us. I just hope those back East are OK.

FWIW, If the OP wants to convey that he thinks Sonar is a great tool... and offers an example of what can (and has been) accomplished with it... I don't really see that as a negative thing.
To be more politically correct, maybe a link to the tune posted in the Songs forum???

This forum is getting as old as the software to make it run. I cant believe someone with a good heart gives a positive statement on the forum and then the other loosers who critisize everything that comes into the forum. What a bunch of crap.  Cake, please update the forum software and add new people to the forum.  The ones here have been here tooooooooooo long.
