Got mine and installed it, but it did not bring over my X3 settings on my main DAW. :(

On my laptop it asked which ones I wanted to import (x1, x2, x3), and it worked. odd.

So far http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/Whats-New

Cool! Can ReMarrix solo be loaded as a VST plugin rather than a ProChannel module? Can it load in other DAWs?

No, but even if it were a plain VST, it would be locked to SONAR because it is a 3rd party plug-in created for SONAR by Overloud. Generally 3rd party plug-ins are locked to the SONAR. Cakewalk developed plug-ins are not locked to SONAR.

I did a quick and dirty mess with effects pre-sets on a bunch of loops, to create multiple mixes and utilise mix recall. Thus far, it is f-ing sweet!!! I thought it would take a bit longer to swap everything out, but it is surprisingly quick. (Though it may not be the same case for gigantic scoring types???)

It seems Mix Recall's responsiveness depends on how much you've changed in the project. For vocal up/down it's super quick. For changing out bunches of effects, tracks, automation, etc. it takes longer.

Glad you discovered the VocalSync is more than it appears at first. One thing that will confuse people is there is no "more" or "less" with the control...it's not like turning it clockwise syncs more and counter-clockwise syncs less. The "sweet spot" could occur anywhere along the knob's travel.

So it looks like now I will have an endless supply of new topics for Sound on Sound columns...

I remember a thread a while back where people were asking about the ability to scale the piano roll larger?...

Well, for those who like it chunky?... Drink it in!

If you still need it larger? Just wait out for Fisher Price to make a DAW...

Yeah it is extremely impressive thus far. I was just fooling around with a lazy lead guitar line and was snycing it against a stuttery hip hop beat. Originally the guitars transients were coming a mishmash of just before and just after the beats. It sounded alright. But I was a bit "meh" towards it and was considering either deleting it or pulling up audiosnap. But I thought I'd give it a go with vocalsync? I rocked the dial and found a point where the guitar notes where (almost) all striking just a fraction before the beat and voila'! Now I'm happy with it! Total time taken = 15 seconds... That's BOSS!

Wait, I mean? That's Gibson! I mean Cakewalk! Well, you know what I mean?!!

I suppose that's better than Steinberg, which locks all bundled effect plugins, including its own. Even on other DAWs, Sonar's Channel Tools and the doubler in VX-64 are go-to tools for me.

I had a box pop up, that asked me if I want to carry over previous settings.

Just found out something cool. When I started to install XLN Drums, an installation instructions doc showed up. Okay, well, I figured I'd do the XLN shuffle later, so I went to save the instructions doc. BUT it had already been downloaded automatically to a download folder in the Command Center folder. That's a nice touch that it keeps all those bits organized.

I'm really starting to like the whole Command Center thing, man does it make installation smoother. It really is just "push a button and walk away."

I've always been a big fan of NI's Service Center as compared to the dreaded iLok.  C3 reminds me a lot of the Service Center and they have done well to emulate it, IMHO.  It takes care of the licensing and so much more and it just makes things easier and is a nice central repository for everything.  Thanks Bakers!

Thanks for your quick review.

While looking at your screenshot I must say, the colors of buttons and FXs in the Track View look really ugly. Gray No.1 buttons, white FXs, gray No.2 background, blue letters... I wish Cakewalk is going to rethink the UI a little and polish the colors. Or at least give users freedom to change them...

Anyway, I am probably jumping at the Platinum version after skipping X2 and X3. Bakers are going to need some cash for fixing the colors, right? :)

Best Regards,
Marek

Thank you for your first impressions. Got my invite email but was on the fence about being an early adopter this time. But you convinced me to purchase the upgrade from X3, download and install. :)

Took longer than most people to download but installation was a breeze. I have imported a few different X3 files and everything except the Melodyne hiccups noted in another thread seem to be working properly. Hasn't crashed yet and I'm starting to push it a bit harder.

Will put into regular production immediately. Really happy!

Re: SONAR PLATINUM HAS LANDED!!! 2015/01/17 13:09:39 (permalink)
Downloaded Sonar Platinum last night.  Install went flawlessly which is good.  I pulled up a nearly finished project to try it.  Everything seemed to work fine at first.  I noticed some minor GUI issues when slicing clips (seems very fundamental which is a bit concerning).  The biggest problem was that Melodyne regions were not reliable for me - especially regions that had any significant size (was true for new and previously existing regions); the audio seemed to stutter and was the same after bouncing.  I was able to remove the region FX and the original audio was restored.  Tried Vocal Sync - didn't impress me to be honest, but I need to play with it some more.

I really like the custom module in the control bar.  Expandable FX bins and sends are also nice.

Still wishing I could re-order tracks in the console view.

On install it did a complete scan. I checked the registry, it appears the new SONAR maintains a VST inventory separate from the old versions.

thks , great and bad news , great because it's safe for the old version , bad because as i rename the plugins , i will have to do it again , (Mercury owner here ....tuff job !!)

I've got to say, I know some trepidation has been expressed about paying and not knowing exactly what's coming over the full 12 months? But I'm actually finding that the upside of this could be, that the shiny new feeling that you get before buying a product? Which normally fades a bit after a day or two... Will remain for at least 10 or 11 months! And then pay again and the carousel of unknown future surprises continues!!!

With the new plan, you never know when you might come home to find new Cakewalk goodies waiting to be downloaded! This alone could fix, actually probably not fix, but at the very least relieve some of the GAS affliction that myself and many others feel.

Or it might make our GAS worse?... Either way I'm sure something will happen...

Give me the Drum Replacer already!!!!!!!!!!!!
