SONAR PLATINUM HAS LANDED!!!

Up and running Platinum now! Okay first off, the new command centre is handy. I only had to download and install Sonar Platinum and Anderton's fx chains. Took about 15 minutes from d/l to install. I also downloaded the help guides, vids and I'm assuming demo/tutorial tracks. This is over a gig, so it took about 30 mins.

First impression once it was up and running, is that it seems to be a little snappier on my system, than X3 (which is saying something!) I haven't loaded a large project as yet. But I have put it through its paces to some extent, keeping playback running while I swapped effects in and out on various tracks and not even a slight pause or crackle.

All of my VST's and additional content is showing up, so no dramas there!

I did a quick and dirty mess with effects pre-sets on a bunch of loops, to create multiple mixes and utilise mix recall. Thus far, it is f-ing sweet!!! I thought it would take a bit longer to swap everything out, but it is surprisingly quick. (Though it may not be the same case for gigantic scoring types???)

Vocal Sync is also notably quick and appears to be of rather high quality. I have been using it more as an effect to just randomly sync (or mangle) synth parts to guitars or drums (as opposed to syncing vocals.) Whilst changing the guide track is not instantaneous. It is faster than I would expect, considering once it is ready? You can just twist the knob back and forth with playback running and it stretches and contracts the audio flawlessly!

Whilst typing this, I've loaded a couple of projects from X3 and they all open and playback as expected! Not a single hitch, glitch or son-of-a-b*tch!

Hmmmm this all seems a bit beige cardigan... So how's about the usual, "This version sounds better!"

*Cough*

Seriously if it does sound better, I can't tell? The dog, who has better hearing than me, has the same look on his face that he always has when I'm playing music... "FEED ME!"

I think maybe that just means X3 sounded great too?...

I'll be selecting my XLN goodies tomorrow and am looking forward to what comes next with me splatter proof trousers on!

You're alright, Cakewalk! You're alright...

PS: Oh but now I think of it, there is one notable absence... No hovercraft!
What gives?!! Don't make me take you on judge Judy, Craig!!!

As far as I can tell dimension pro is just 1.5 and the audio loops appear to be the same. Or at least they're called the same thing. I haven't installed them as yet, I'll wait until I hear that there is something new in them?

The new content as far as I can tell, is mainly in the core program, ie. vocal sync, fx chains, mix recall, re-matrix solo, control bar modules, audiosnap, etc. And of course the 3 AD kits, midi packs and pieces.

Audiosnap markers are spot on transients, thus far! So working with it should be a hell of a lot quicker! *fingers crossed it stays this way, fingers crossed so hard my epidermis could fuse into diamonds*

With the editable quote function of this forum, I respectfully disagree...

For example:

Karyn
In his defence, Craig said the hovercraft will be coming later in the year... Also it will be announced at some point in time, that I'm available to fly around the globe and wash members hovercrafts at no cost to the members...

Silly question... Does SONAR overwrite X3 or does it install it side-by-side? I assume side-by-side since that is the typical behavior of previous releases.

Re: SONAR PLATINUM HAS LANDED!!! 2015/01/16 21:05:24 (permalink)
I tried using VocalSync on some Guitar DI tracks panned hard left/right. I was able to tighten up the performance, matching them together. I looped the section and adjusted VocalSync while playing without any problems.

I saved several mix scenes, some with different plugins, pans, and levels. I was able to switch between mix scenes while SONAR plays. It takes a brief moment for the new mix to kick in, but after that SONAR keeps on playing nicely.

The convolution reverb sounds fantastic!

On install it did a complete scan. I checked the registry, it appears the new SONAR maintains a VST inventory separate from the old versions.

Re: SONAR PLATINUM HAS LANDED!!! 2015/01/16 23:03:52 (permalink)
So far for me Sonar Platinum is definitely more snappy.
I had a fairly large project from X3 that I opened in Platinum and it just plays smoother.
An example is that in X3 when I pushed play it would actually hesitate for a second or two.
Not any more.

Two or three quick notes then I am going back "under the hood" so to speak.
1) The colors in the console and track view appear to be more vivid. And I have less graphic glitches when selecting between console, Addictive Drums, Piano Roll, Step Sequencer etc.
2) The new piano roll is gonna be awesome........hard to explain at this point.
3) The Console is just awesome with the new stacked FX and more Sends visible.
4) Mix Recall, are you kidding me? This is totally incredible. Still trying to completely get this one in my head. But this will be very useful to us all.

Thanks Cake for the early invite!!!!!
