What I don't get is that Cakewalk could offer the choice between button colors and background colors and any other color. It seems like a simple thing to do.

benstat However, Panup has already started work on something that makes use of a free resource editor, so maybe we should see how he gets on first? That leaves me to concentrate on Helper. After all, there's still a long list of feature requests! Don't mess with DLL, you have enough work to do with Helper! The command line resource editor did not allow two manifest files in a DLL. So it did not work with TTSRES90. I continue searching for a suitable utility. It would be an insane project to build a complicated DLL editor from scratch and fearing Cakewalk prevents mods in the next update.

Can you make the Project Info window floating and make the font of the main textbox a little bigger? Window is probably created dynamically because I did not find it in the DLL. Changing menu content dynamically opens so much possibilities I must think for a while for the most essential additions. -Panu

One small thing - when you set up the snap to grid settings, for the default SONAR setting, you don't have "measure". Is that intentional? It's just that that's what I always use ;-)

It's just that that's what I always use ;-) The only settings available are those that there are keyboard shortcuts for... So Measure as well as (I believe) dotted values are not currently available. Neither is snapto/by... yet... But with X1b's release, at least the nsapto/by will become available... Maybe others... We'll have to wait and see... Just a note... I too usually use measure, but for most of the situations I have run across so far, whole (note) will do the same for now... Keni

Thanks for answering that Keni. Yes, for most people the 'Whole' setting will do fine, especially if you work mainly in 4/4.

I needed a break from some tedious Helper work (new work in progress website, incorporating Helper name change), so I was trying to think of new features for v2. Here's a potential feature idea that occurred to me this evening: Macros The Helper toolbar could have some customizable macro buttons that can send, in sequence, multiple menu and/or keyboard commands to SONAR. The user could define exactly which menu/keyboard commands are sent to SONAR, and in which order, for each macro button. When I first thought of it, it sounded like a great idea! Since then I've been struggling to think of any useful, real applications for it. Would something like that be useful to anyone, or have I invented a solution to a problem that doesn't exist?!? Edit: clarifying

Edit: clarifying Hi Ben... Interesting idea... We once had something of this sort...Isn't that essentially what CAL is? Maybe it could be a CAL writer/editor so that those inclined wouldn't have to go back to old versions to find the right support... (Studioware comes to mind as well)... I'll think on this one some more... Keni

Hi Keni, You may be right. I've never looked at CAL in any detail before. Does CAL allow you to create scripts to trigger SONAR menu options and/or keyboard shortcuts? If so, then Cakewalk have beaten me to it by several years!! The kind of thing I was thinking of is something like: Macro Button 1: 1. Open the PRV. 2. Set the snap to grid setting to 1/16. 3. Set the 'event draw duration' to 1/8. 4. Select the 'Move' tool. Macro Button 2: 1. Open the Browser. 2. Select audio FX. 3. Expand all plugin folders. That sort of thing. In other words, automate any repetitive sequence of menu options/keyboard shortcuts. If CAL has beat me to it then I'll try and think of something else! Thanks, Ben

It would be super cool if you make it possible to freeze multiple tracks at once with a macro! Another thing I seem to need all the time: turn on ProChannel, turn on HiPass filter. Those on/off buttons are in the opposite corners of EQ section. If I could enable them both with a single macro I would get 3% happier for the next 26 weeks. -Panu

I think cal is more of a Midi event filter than a global Macro implementation. (For example changing the start times of chords with strum it.cal which can give it a more natural guitar sounding chord.) It seems to work for processing Midi tracks rather than menu items. It may have other capabilities but this is mainly what I have seen it used for.

If there are existing SONAR menu options / keyboard shortcuts to do what you want to achieve, then yes, I can automate these in a macro button (or buttons). Or, more accurately, I can let YOU choose the sequence of menu options / keyboard shortcuts you want to automate. If this would be useful to a lot of people then I'll happily add it (I can think of one or two things this would help me with). But, if only a handful of people want this then there are probably better things I can spend my time on...

If you have a number of synths the ability to freeze and unfreeze them all would be pretty cool. For example, when I save my stuff as a bundle file before I send to one of the artists I work with.

I just did a quick test and (on first inspection anyway) it is possible to open the synth rack and freeze each synth one at a time. There's one macro that would be useful. Any others?

A basic Macro recorder so you could enable it, execute the commands in order and stop the recording... binding this to a button.... Great idea! Keni
