I'll speak for myself. Spacey chastised me and another member for having a go at his wording of the title about the onslaught of spam.

I took it like it was intended. He did not like it. He was taking SPAM more seriously than I and that other fellow.

I've nothing against spacey and his opinion. Maybe I'll not make that mistake again and maybe I will. But not out of spite towards Michael or anyone else, that is for sure. At the time I made the OT comment it was apparent that the mods were aware of the problem and were dealing with it. End of (my) story. My only regret was that Michael did noit get the "play on words". Cest le vie.

Here's my take on it;

First, I was very upset about a pervert that posted in jbows thread directed towards children.
I reported it to Cakewalk along with a note stating that the person should be banned and I started a thread suggesting Cakewalk take action..."draw a line"...is how I worded the title.

I also stated that Spam and trolls etc. don't bother me....they are Cakewalks problems - I think there are things that could be done and aren't. Other people had great suggestions to control the problem.

You and Soens chose to make fun of the way I stated being upset...which insulted me.

I didn't try to "police" you guys. I made a simple statement about how I felt and it's only the truth.

The use of humor and how it's perceived is obviously something that can cause people to fall out.
Although I've avoided conversations about the topic, and will continue to, I do believe that the last example
of how it can end with bad results is not the first time and won't be the last.

If I felt there was something that I could offer to help avoid bad results, I would. Unfortunately I don't.

Kids today..I don't really see why Reece couldn't have sorted this out with Steve in private. Enough of the flouncing off already...

I wasn't even aware of Reece's departure until this thread appeared. I long ago stopped looking at the FFSF - possibly when it stopped being remotely amusing.

I'm not trying to police anyone, it's not my job. But as I said, I'm entitled to express my opinions. I may have over-reacted I admit, and my comments in the 'Bub' thread were not directed at anyone specifically. If I was thought to be out of order, surely there are more adult channels to pursue than leaving comments in a thread I'll never see. Maybe by talking to me directly for a start, or if the situation warrants it, reporting me to a moderator.

And let's be brutally honest here - Reece has occasionally pointed out other members' infractions before now, where for whatever reason he's felt justified in pointing out his personal perceived aggrievement. In my humble opinion, I did no more or less than that.

However, I'm guessing that it must run deeper than just my comments in that thread - maybe they were the straw that broke the camel's back.

Whatever the case, it's not going to get overcome by not addressing it and by one member committing forum suicide.

If anyone else feels my recent actions have led to a less than welcoming Coffee House, just let me know. I'm welcome to the idea of my altering my behaviour in the pursuance of forum peace.

For the record I am not taking sides on this issue.

As I told Straummy via email, I am not in a position to judge who is right or who is wrong. I'm just not that smart.

You're just fine as long as we can all joke and have fun and laugh with it!

It's sort of like time for "Our Song", sometimes and this place is nice for that, with the fact that it does not have the "stink".

I think that sometimes we forget that we're here for fun, and perhaps take this whole thing way too seriously, and even I am guilty of that, but I have no qualms looking in the mirror and seeing ... that I need to take a shower and clean up! Or having fun saying that Strummy or Bapu need a shower! (separate houses and countries please!)

We're so dang sensitive that even I have to take a break and go outside and laugh!

I'm staying out of this, too.  Actually, I don't even think it's only their problem problem to work out, but I'm hopeful that they will work it out.  If they don't, I'll be sad because I consider both of them friends.

It was just Reece and Steve this time.  If it wasn't them, it would have been someone else.  This kind of thing just seems to happen every few years here--as documented by the existence of the FSF.  Remarkably, it doesn't more often.  I think that's because we do have such a fun and normally considerate bunch of people in the CH.  Every once in a while, one of us does say something inappropriate--I've done it.  Most of the time everyone shakes their heads or shrug and we move on.  Why do we have such a blow-up every few years?

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?

In another forum there's an extremely similar thread going on with members quitting over next-to-nothing then returning and wondering why they got so upset over virtually nothing.  It's just a sign of the times and some people handle stress differently than others.  My take, as always, is that life is too short for anything (especially getting mad about words typed into a forum) to be taken too seriously.  That said, I normally restrict myself to sub-forums that either allow or are specifically built for random nonsense.  Believe me, I've got PLENTY of reasons to be stressed in my so-called "real life" but, even there, I tend to follow the same philosophy and it gets me through.

Ryan Munnis' response to making a member a moderator

So reading direct or between the lines....

yes we have auto stuff at work that doesn't work either like it should, stuff sneaks through .it is the nature of the beast...
and yes they are busy with other things .. but 16 hours with spam in this forum... unless because of the nature of the forum we are "at the bottom"

I don't know what "secrets" he is referring to , anybody with ASP knowledge may chime in as to the limitations and secrets of this BBS...

Yes granting a few "select" members pseudo mod powers would , in the end, not be a good thing, where do we "draw the line"?

that response reminded me of the Sheriffs dance response from The Best Little W****House In Texas(see I was respectful) shuffle left, right...I "think" I know what he said .. but not really...secrets???? really???

but hey its THEIR forum,,, I abide by the rules if I want to play.. still better than lots of other ones...
Including GS KVR and the soon to be deceased/resurrected Harmony Central..

I thought that there was talk at some point that there was a hidden beta tester's forum.

My apologies to you Mr. Spacey! I wasn't intending to make fun OF you at all. I was just trying to BE funny, period. One cannot always perceive how humor will be taken. So to that end I will refrain from using it.

Carry on, men.

Steve

Thank you Steve.
It was just a bad time.
I can understand how it may not be so apparent when somebody is very upset, as I was. So upset about that perverted ass making that comment directed at children that humor or play with words didn't go down good.

I guess the two issues being discussed in this thread both came about because if "timing".
Humor was in a serious thread about a banned member while folks were trying to get the full story and
humor was used in a serious thread about a pedophile posting. ( what he posted, how easy it was for him to post and how long it took to get rid of him and the post.)

Both unfortunately are examples of a problem with the use of "humor" that I can't change or know how to.

I say, if you don't want to see silly threads, then stay upstairs!

I AGREE... OK... after having read the rest of the thread I will say this. Often I come across a post or a thread that I don't care for. I move on because I like everyone here, though some have obviously different beliefs than I do... I still like the people. If I don't like it I don't participate. I try to not be offensive.
Personally, I need a place where I don't have to worry about posting nonsense or something stupid.. and I think most others do too. I am also thankful for it because a lot of things go right over my head and I post something that isn't that relevant because I didn't read the whole thread or I didn't "get it". We all get it wrong sometimes, we all say things that don't come out right but really, I think we need to be quick to give everyone else the benefit of doubt and slow to complain or judge. It will always go away.
I got offended by something a week or two ago and instead of complain, I blocked the person... then after a couple of days I unblocked them because I got over it. Like I said, I like everyone here and I REALLY don't want to see this place die or even change (for the worse). FWIW, I don't mind reading through nonsense. I can choose to move on if I don't want to read it... keep it coming.
I don't have any real specific suggestions because everyone is different and everyone thinks a little different AND things written online without personal interaction can so easily be taken the wrong way.

Beagle, shake it off and come home.

IDK... I think that so many things are misunderstandings that turn into something else. I just hope I don't do anything to make things worse.

IMO... Julien
