Look, as a business owner myself I understand expanding into different markets especially during a recession. They are a big enough company that I am sure the people they put on this voicemail project had little to nothing to do with Sonar, & if they were the same programmers then it probably only took them about an hour to design this simple program. Do I think using the name "Cakewalk" was a foolish move? Yeah, Probably as folks who are up on technology enough to really know & value the cakewalk name would also know that there are smartphone apps that do this better, faster, & cheaper. Little old grannies who might find this product..... NEATO! are not likely to know or care who or what cakewalk is. But the release of cheesy voicemail software under the same name of a company who just release a revamped yet heavily flawed version of their flagship recording software could hurt their credibility with the "Pro recordist" market. That's my 2 cents. Not a bad idea for a little added revenue but it should have been: New voicemail for ever by Company X, not cakewalk.

ChuckC New voicemail for ever by Company X, not cakewalk. It's time for one of two things: bass solo shootout, or "Company X" name competition... I say we go for Company X name competition! I'll start.. * We Are Not Cakewalk by Roland * ShmakeChalk by Shmoland * CakewalkByRoland.com (N.A.) others?

I'm pretty sure that this was a joke by someone at Cakewalk. Or at least I hope it was. :) This has to be a joke, right?

kubalibre Fog kubalibre, there is a market for such things.. you mention 3 companies.. but remember them 3 are also tied in with others.. you'd be surprised what others sell or their sub-divisions. e.g. how much of garage band / logic share code wise? etc etc companies like Magix do alright out of such products / make a fair bit out of it I'd imagine.. and they Make a few DAW related products. It's business, much as my local super market sells a chip tin of beans but under the same company name (just different range name) they sell expensive lobster.. Eww Magix is really a bad example. Remember the time, the old company was called Sek´D. At this time, Magix sold nothing but cheapish DJ and home user software, I mean really the cheap garbage you get for 5 $ at blow out sales. When Magix bought Sek´d Samplitude, it lost so much reputation, it was horrible and it took literally years until they recovered from that and Magix earned some respect for pro audio software. Samplitude was the undisputed most advanced audio program about 10-12 years ago, who knows where they would be now if the name "magix" wouldn´t have spoiled their success. Magix didn't buy Samplitude - they always owned it.

OscarLaun Curse it, Toyota, how could you make the Scion?! It makes my Lexus look bad! Curse it, Coca-Cola, how could you release New Coke: it makes my old Coke look bad! Curse it, Avid, how could you merge with M-Audio?! M-Powered makes my ProTools looks bad! Curse it, Church of England, why do you want to remove the religious parts of the christening ceremony?! It makes my baptism look bad! Curse it, Walmart, why do you sell cheap Chinese knock-offs of my expensive electronics?! It makes my expensive electronics look bad! Curse it, Borders, why are you selling romance novels?! It makes my intellectually stimulating philosophy books look bad! I have called the waambulance for the whiners. Your analogy for all of the ex. doesn't hold true. Toyota cr8ed Scion as a new division because a LeXus owner would be miffed if their line of cars were classed w/an XB. It's simple marketing. Disney did it w/Walden Media & I believe Pixar as well. Sonar X1 is classed w/Voicemail Forever because they are both from Cakewalk by Roland. & Walmart does stink... have a good one 3Eo

If our past history with message retrieval and archiving is any indication they will sell a ton of these to lawyers and their clients...especially folks who suspect their spouse of cheating on them and/or folks going through messy divorce cases. We "retrieve" phone messages about twice a month for individuals and attorneys in this regard. Then we shower.

I agree (apart from the idea that X1 is somehow heavily flawed, but I'll leave it to another day). It appears to be a fail when it comes to branding this as a Cakewalk product, still even Microsoft recovered from Bob.

I think those of us who 'early adopted' X1 should get a pen and mug just 'cause. They could call it 'notation improvements'. And like myolpal, I've done my fair share of voicemail archiving for clients.
