BassDaddy I think Dave has been pretty respectful for the most part. Maybe amazingly so since he has been alone for the most part. I think he is "technically" correct on some of this. Something you learn after being married for awhile is, "being right is overrated". Of all the Sonar activity since January no one else has noticed or cares. I know I don't. Another marriage thing is asking myself,"am I willing to die on this hill"? I am not even willing to get a blister on this one.
People are getting complacent in the world of software and expect it to not work when you get it. BUT that was not always the case... Corel 4 worked perfect until XP well it still worked but would not save, Photoshop 5.5 still works perfectly in all versions of windows. But there's NO money in perfectly working software.... I can only think of maybe one game not working in Windows. Never had an issues with ANY word processor until windows messed with spell checker. Software like 3D4 studio and then 3D Max 1 - 3 worked perfectly, even in XP. Yea the good old days... When they came out with a new version it was NOT to fix bug! It was to give you new features... It's all about making money now. Yea the good old days when you could beat your wife and get away with it... lol ;) We must all comply... Resistance is futile... peace!

John T I think Dave should get on with it and file a lawsuit. You know, show us how serious he really is.
It's not really about a lawsuit. It's about self-righteousness.

Software has blown up considerably since then increasing the testing combinations. The dawn of the internet made life harder and increased expectations of the customer. Which features would you like to see dropped first to improve testing? Look up agile development. It can be done well (Gibson) or badly (Roland). Bugs do not take 5 minutes to fix hence they are prioritised.

This whole discussion seems out of character for this community. Dave, would it help to think of software purchase as a license? You really aren't buying physical products like a car. It's more of a service than a physical product. If I went to my car dealership and they offered me the choice of a new car (full purchase price) or an upgrade to my existing car (upgrade price) I wouldn't expect to drive two vehicles out of the lot, and, as silly as that visual seems, I think that's what you believe. For one, I am totally impressed with the ongoing work done by Cakewalk, their responsiveness to bugs, their <efforts> to document everything, their effective integration with third party vendors, and their leadership in an industry that embodies technology, creativity, engineering, competition, and collaboration. And doing it without going broke! Well, enough for me. I have better fish to fry....Wait, that's a mixed metaphor.

I agree with Cakewalk's good deeds :) And yes I can understand a license variation as well... but then that still goes to the advertising presentation... " including Addictive Drums 2 Solo and a full selection of plug-in processors that includes Melodyne Essential" No mention anything about a license. Even when you see a car ad you see a Plus tax and license disclaimer in the ad. I suppose technically when I agree to the terms.. I agree to giving up my 1st born to use the software or I can get my money back if I don't agree with the terms... lol So I guess if I don't get what I thought I was getting I should get my money back.... peace!

All software comes under a software license. You have also agreed to a EULA. They give you a license to install it on your computer (or whatever the terms are), you don't own the product. End of.

then again... is it still even a license if it's a Membership? and as a member on this upgrade was it a "selling point" to become a membership (that I was not part of) that I get everything in the ad because the "terms" of the old agreement where possibly a license have now changed to a membership? let's dance... ;) Peace!

YOU FURTHER AGREE THAT IT IS THE COMPLETE AND EXCLUSIVE STATEMENT OF THE LICENSE AGREEMENT BETWEEN YOU AND CAKEWALK WHICH SUPERSEDES ANY PROPOSALS, OR PRIOR AGREEMENT, ORAL OR WRITTEN, AND ANY OTHER COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN YOU AND CAKEWALK RELATING TO THE SUBJECT MATTER OF THIS LICENSE AGREEMENT.

All software installed on your PC is licensed regardless of payment option. You don't own any of it (unless you coded the application yourself). The Platinum license would (or should) cover the additional terms of "membership" which in effect is just a payment plan anyway (it's not really membership at all, that's just a marketing phrase).

It's all about making money now. peace!
I have been a software developer for almost 40 years and I have to say, you are factually incorrect on many of your points. Every commercial software product has defects, each and every one. If in your experience a particular product "worked perfectly", that is only because your particular workflow never exposed you to a defect, or you just didn't notice when one happened. There is a great deal of money in perfectly working software, but not enough to pay the cost of producing perfectly working software unless you're the government. Every update has bug fixes. Security fixes, UI glitch fixes, crash fixes, etc. That's largely why updates exist. Producing software is a deeply personal undertaking. It's about living your passion and sharing it with the toughest crowd in the world. Unfortunately money makes doing that possible. Every known defect is agonized over by a product team with oftentimes heated debates on priorities. In the end, the product must ship before the money runs out, so defects will go with it till the next time. It's embarrassing and depressing, but in the end the product does what it was intended for so you hope your customers find value. OP, if you have a functioning version of Melodyne on your system, and it works in all the versions of Sonar that you expect it to, then you have no complaint, imho.

There must be an enormous amount of pride in putting out an inferior product... Then justifying it to your customers must be extremely fulfilling...
