Well, seeing as you can't drive your car through a forum. How else are people supposed to compensate for their inadequacies in the trouser dept ? ;)

Yes I suppose you're right.....I don't have the need to compensate for anything so I'll leave my signature blank.......

Has anyone gotten the automatic filling in of the login dialog to work in Firefox ?
It worked fine in the old version.

Sure...

It's working fine here. Did you remember to check the box during your sign in so that it saves your sign in to a cookie for the auto-login...?

On the subject of the forums....is it really necessary for people to list every piece of gear they've ever owned in their signature ? All it does is clog up the threads and quite frankly seems a bit pretentious.
Yea I get it if you're posting a support request then knowing your OS etc would be useful but having a list of all your gear repeated over and over in each post is just a waste in my opinion.  I hardly think what type of guitar you own is of any use for example other than for the purpose of bragging.

Perhaps a bit harsh but there you have it.........

There's an option in the User Control Panel to hide signatures; one of the Speed Options: Don't show signature of the posters. Very useful... The Essentials Only setting seems to not show signatures as well.

Problem with that is it still leaves all the blank space where the sig would be, so just adds to the acres of blank space.

Re: So much for the new forum software..... 2013/06/09 22:21:00 (permalink)
From the very first post on the new forum, there's been no problem for me using the latest Chrome.

I don't imagine any one would give $hit & half whether I like the new forum vs. the old, so I'll leave that out.

Besides, there's enough stated opinions already, and I doubt anything would change now for quite a while anyhow.

I agree that the idea of showing lines of signatures is taking up necessary space, so I'm gonna hide 'all my stuff' and only post it when needed for others to see to answer tech. questions, which I almost never ask.

Although I may put a wise crack line or two in just for some added levity.

Lastly, win, lose or draw about the new forum setup & design, I do applaud the intent & efforts regardless of my opinion of it either way. Good to see something done, as it was overdue indeed.

Oh, we're a 'fickle bunch' aren't we?

OK, so never mind then!

But I know it isn't Chrome, because the only reason I ever installed Chrome in the first place was just for this very Forum some 5 months ago, and it was fine until.......well....like I said,  - never mind!

Same thing here - I am using Chrome.  Everything is HUGE.
Font size is at least 5-8 points bigger than just about any other forum.

Maybe I am just not seeing the setting to change it, but....

Everything in the forum is now HUGE.
Font's are larger. line spacing is larger. There is now a ton of white space everywhere. The thread listings now show about 10 on a page where there used to be 25. Everything is bigger and really spread out.
This is no good.
Is there a setting somewhere - similar to the gmail display density settings (compact, cozy, comfortable) - that will allow me to tighten up everything on the screen?

That is strange. I have tried it on FF, IE, Chrome and Safari and haven't come across that. What browser are you using?

It certainly is BIG! And WHITE! My wife can tell when I'm reading here now because my face is lit up like a beacon.  Why can't we have a nice normal forum like Gear slutz? I've never had trouble posting or navigating there.

I agree with excessive text or advertising style signatures. Put that stuff in you profile page and If someone needs to be inquisitive they can quickly look at your toys. I think it's a good idea to share your gear list because we are all nerds and this stuff matters to us, but why not have a "see my gear" tab or something.

Problem with that is it still leaves all the blank space where the sig would be, so just adds to the acres of blank space.

Try the Essentials Only view. The Full Version includes the user info on the left which consumes vertical space, creating your acres under short messages.

Yes there is that option, but it seems to increase the amount of white. At least the grey breaks it up a little. I guess it depends to some extent which version of the old software you used. Mine was set to the blue version, so the new version seems quite hard on your eyes by comparison. It's definitely better overall, just wish it was easier to look at. Much like X2 ;)

One behavior of the old version that I liked, that this new version doesn't seem to follow, is the clearing of old threads that I've intentionally skipped.

That is, when I visited the forum, I'd run down the list of newly updated threads and click on the ones that interested me. After I'd leave the forum and come back a bit later, ALL of the threads from that previous visit (including the ones I didn't care to read) would be cleared (marked as read). I liked this. It made clearer the things that were newly posted since my last visit, rather than scanning through and keeping a closer eye out for the first thread down the list that's not in bold to tell me where I left off before. If I want that same behavior now, however, I'll need to click "mark forum read" after each time I read the threads I'm interested in. Not difficult, but not as convenient as before.

I may be the only person who cared about this behavior though...

This didn't usually work properly for me. Often threads that I had just read were marked as unread.

That used to drive me crazy   (and there's a Mark Forum as Read button for this)

I'd have a few minutes to read a few posts then have to go away.  When I'd come back all posts were marked read and I had to backtrack from the end of a thread to the last post I remembered having read.

Am I the only one who still can't insert a link without using bbcodes ?
