So, here is a thought i had. Would it be possible that the reason some people are having problems with X1 and others are not is becauseof an unrelated computer error during install. For example say your memory gets maxed out or you av starts scanning in the middle of an install? Would this cause different files to be corrupted and therefor different bugs?

wineshop I purchased X1 PE, and waiting on it's arrival tomorrow. I admit after reading through page after page of negative posts here I'm a bit nervous. I'm sure there are some positive posts, but I'm having trouble finding many. Are any of y'all happily using X1 without any major problems? Make me feel better!!!!! I like X1 a lot more now than when I first bought it. I've been a CW enthusiast since Pro Audio 6, and then starting with Sonar 1 every update built upon the same mindset and way of using it...until X1. It was a bit daunting trying to switch gears and understand how to quickly use the program like I had been. My biggest breakthrough was watching all the tutorial videos carefully, especially the ones at groove3.com. I highly recommend those. This forum has been amazingly helpful too. I haven't had any crashes that I would blame on X1, but have had my share of bug annoyances. But I'm thinking this will really be an incredible program once X1b arrives on the scene. X1 just has a better uncluttered feel for me personally and many of the enhancements, like the Smart Tool, Edit Filter, Pro Channel, Multidock, Screensets, and Control Rribbon, are feeling very comfortable now. I've recorded a number of things with it and have enjoyed using it. Gary

Overall I like X1, there are certainly things I'm not crazy about but I've done a couple of songs in it now and it's been stable, I find the workflow better in most cases and I prefer working in X1 vs 8.5 and I'm sure it's only going to get better as it evolves. Dan

I am enojoying it more and more as the days pass (in anticipation of the X1b of course). Most of my random problems went away after doing a clean install on a clean system (originally had installed on top of 8.5). I can honestly say no major glitches or crashes since the clean install. Most issues I have now can be traced back to know bugs and are not deal killers or detrimental at this point. I REALLY like the "envelope" changes and am warming up to the docking GUI.

I love X1 -especially the Dark Side. Thanks to Panu. CW have taken some big steps although not all agree on this point :) The Pro Channel is really good, and probably worth the upgrade price alone in my opinion. Screen sets are equally awesome, and the patch browser is amazing. Each track has a note pad now. Awesome. Oh yeah, and FX chains!! There's lots to like! Of course if you are one of the unlucky ones experiencing lots of crashes you would say X1 is *$%@. [It seems fine here on my crappy Q6600, 4GB RAM 2.4 Ghz 32 bit Vista system, with ZEDR16 Allen & Heath mixer/audio interface (UA1000 for MIDI).]

I'm sure you are right on the money there! I (sort of) understand the "bold" move to grey. Like if it's good enough for PT.. etc. But on some things you don't know what you've got till it's gone. Color customization, and familiar short cuts should not disappear. Never let marketing dictate functionality.

For me X1 is about 90% as stable as 8.5.3 so if I'm doing anything I want to keep I use 8.5.3 if not then I load up X1.

I actually had trouble getting Sonar 8 and 8.5 to run smoothly at all. After being a Cakewalk customer since v4, i gave up and went to REAPER. X1 is stable as hell so far. And it's rad looking, so I'm slowly warming up to returning completely.

Been using x1b full time for quite a while now mixed down 2 live concert and 1 cd project. prochannel is ok perhaps when I get more familiar I'll use it more the sonitus give me primoresults much faster in the eq areas. I miss the individual presets in teh prochannel you can do it over all and you have to retrieve them with the file method not the drop downs

To the Original Poster: In my opinion, Sonar X1 is good, but Sonar 8.5 was better, VERY MUCH better... it's that simple... X1 seems easier, for it's lost a lot of previous flexibility, and thus (HUGE) power... Sure it now features SOME nice improvements, but also MANY steps back... Because of that "lost" flexibility, I'm personally quite disappointed... So, no matter how much I like new points, still the fact is that a lot of things have been taken away, which CAN'T be good, no way... Plus, finding tools and features through tons of scattered menus is NOW a real nightmare, especially if compared to the ALL visible tools once we had... Just an example, we used to have the best Piano Roll View around, with everything at its place, now it's weaker than the one in the latest Magix Music Maker....!!! That's it... they changed the product into a (too much) different one, so "old" Sonar lovers can't help being disappointed, at least quite a bit.... may they admit it or not... Regards by GothicAngel

I like X1. I do very simple stuff though. Almost all audio and not too many tracks. I haven't tried pro channel, I am still hooked on Sontius plugs. I bought a new computer and had Sonar professionally installed. I have a 32-bit and 64-bit on the new machine, but find myself running 64-bit only. Most of my old plugins work fine. Because of issues with my old machine and Sonar 6, I decided to take the plunge to X1. However, I am spending a lot of time updating projects to conform to 64 bit. So, I would say all in all that my biggest issue has been going to 64-bit, not going to X1. I like the smart tool. I haven't gotten use to most of of the other tools on the control bar, but am coming along. Tom

Try replacing for example all highpass filters with ProChannel's HPF. It sounds somehow smoother than Sonitus:EQ. Difference is radical if used in one track but it's cumulative. I find my mixes sound better after going to ProChannel from Sonitus EQ and Compressor. It could be just placebo but who cares.
