Or perhaps actually nobody knows the cause of the issue right now (they are just guessing) and I'm stating a method to rule things out  . I don't care what it is I want the OP's issue fixed. Everybody's configuration is different. My advise still stands.

Alex, I hadn't noticed the latest RME driver. Thanks, I've got it now.
 
It seems to me that a lot of these are not so much driver updates that impact Sonar, but updates to TotalMix which is their routing software. The firmware updates seem to have a lot to do with the FX algorithms.
 
The one hang I had came as I was closing projects. I often have more than one project open and flip between them. Both projects had the same sample rate. Both were originally and always Sonar Platinum projects.
 

Still up - tried Sonar safe mode yet?
No bitbridge/32 bit plugs I assume.
Yup time to to rule out whether it happens with a new project or not.

I just tried safe mode and I think I have identified the issue. A plugin synth. researching more projects to be sure. I think I have got it identified.
 
I am able to open and close these same projects in X3 without issue still. So something new with Platinum.

Just states Sonar has crashed, no real info on cause sadly.
What about that synth.... Does it crash in safe mode?

I was curious and after several frustrating minutes, I see that the project eventually closes. It just takes a very long time.
 
The plugin is EZdrummer2. I can insert a new instance in a project and try to close the project with the same hang results. I know this is apples and oranges, but this does not happen with X3.
 
Also, the VST scanner hangs on the EZdrummer.dll file for several minutes. It eventually clears and the synth loads as expected in the projects without any functionality issues in the synth.
 
So as documented above, SONARPLT hangs and has to be closed down. I wonder if that info will do any good or not. I opened up a problem report.
 
It is beautiful outside and I think I used all my inspiration trying to troubleshoot this issue so I may go for a good bike ride.  :)

With the problem report might be an idea to send the dump file if generated. I use www.wetransfer.com for this myself.

I am up to date with EZD2. thx for checking again Alex.

I uninstalled EZD2, tried in base config and updated as well as uninstalleing PLatinum too.

yeah, reset and scanned several times after reinstalling updates. The scan hangs when it comes to the EZdrummer dll but eventually recovers.
 
There is only a 64-bit version installed.

Just a heads up...
I've seen another thread whereby they uninstalled, ran a regcleaner, reinstalled and it worked...
If you can find the actual hive entries for ezdrummer you might be able to delete them and bypass reg cleaner (however there could be setting you have missed).


A regcleaner (such as cccleaner), and playing around with registry settings, is of course at your own risk... Backup your registry first, maybe backup your entire hard drive.

Same here, I had EZDrummer2 installed prior to installing Platinum and it's not causing any problems.

Narrowed it down a little further. The 32-bit EZdrummer does not exhibit the error on project close.
