Oh, and while you're at it, what have the Romans ever done for us?

They invented laser eye surgery.........

...no, no sorry, they gave us the idea of recycling bath water.

I always get them two muddled.

Anyway one of those will win AI, unless the mono-cycling juggler comes out of nowhere at the end.

Well.... time to weigh in and make a guess.

I was thinking all through the previous few shows, and even into the first song last night, that Jess had it in the bag with her superb vocal abilities....

Phillip made a very very wise choice to let her go first, knowing he would get the last song of the night. Strategically brilliant, knowing that his song was good and not knowing what she would do musically speaking. It's always a good bet to be last. (of course, if the first performer is brilliant, this could backfire too)

There is also the possibility here that since 2 of the 3 songs were given to them, that the winners are (not picked) but "suggested" to the audience through the songs that are selected for them by the AI powers that be... Jess was given less than stellar tunes.... her first song was  good.... and it went downhill for her from there. Her last song.... "on the new CD"  tune was not very good, in that, she didn't have a brilliant moment in it.  Then JLo pipes in that Jess should have told them she didn't like that song...it wasn't her style...... yeah right Jlo.... what 16 year old with stars in her eyes is going to have the knowledge or the guts to stand up to someone who has been "guiding" them through the entire season?

On the other hand...Phillip was given so so songs to start with and.........

Then....... Phillip comes out with that freaking amazing show stopper of a song. The judges said it all.

Coincidence?  This is, I believe, where the choosing of the winner takes place.... in the songs selected for the contestants  for the final few shows.

We'll see if Phillip's song wins the night. I'm thinking he will.

Here's the thing (as I see it).

Jessica's CD song was not a song ingrained in the hearts of America (not a Houston et. al. song) and so it showed (to me) that if she doesn't have anything to "copy" she's just another singer.

Same idea for Phillip but....he's so original* that he showed he can be exciting on something America doesn't already know.

Hands down, Phillip won it for me.

*was either of his first two songs copying the original? No. IMO they were his interpretations, hence he is original.

(I never, ever watch any of these shows.  I'm generally not into the music that they do, but mostly it's because I can't stop screaming expletives in my head abut why didn't they have had these shows before I had children??)

Official check in and opinion..... before I have to head to the work site halfway across the state.

So the show started with what sounded like someone choking two screaming cats..... what was that anyhooooo?

Fogarty should stay retired.  I thought my version and Bapu's version of that song was better....

I don't remember what came next BUT.... I decided it would be better for me if I went and worked out. So I grabbed my things and headed to my workout room to exercise and work out on the heavy bag for a time.

Lots of leg and arm stuff, cardio on the bag.... home for a shower.... and yeah AI was still on.

Got there to see Aerosmith embarrass themselves with smoking cabinets and a song that was so obviously uninspired....

And in the end Phillip won the title.

OK enough on AI until next year. My life is pretty much unaffected by the outcome..... so I better get off the computer and into the truck for the long drive to the job site.

Anyone else freaked out by the Jennifer Holliday / Jessica Sanchez duet?

I'm familiar with the "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" song, but not Jennifer Holliday.  Her exuberant performance, the wide-open eyes, the ability to practically unhinge her jaw like a python, made me think of - yes this is nuts - Cesar Romero as the Joker on the 1960s Batman show.

YES - we (my family and me) rewound it several times (DVR) - it was hilarious but scary at the same time

There were times I was concerned for Jessica's survival.  I wondered if, perhaps, we'd see Jennifer swallow Jessica whole.  While that may have been horrifying to watch on live TV, it would have improved the song.

Fortunately (for Jessica) the 16 year old wunderkind was able to immitate the larger, older predator and force her to back down.  After the song, Jennifer went off in search of easier, less screechy prey.  I don't know how Ryan survived.

Daryl,

You rewound it? The Lovely Lady and I couldn't make it through one full time. We were afraid it would give us nightmares. I was sure it was going to turn into a boxing match.

BTW, I'm still pi$$ed that you posted the results "early" for us west coasters mate.
