I've been experimenting with Logmein Ignition on my IPAD. You see exactly what's on your daw screen, which means you can work with EQ's etc. also. However, controlling things is a bit flakey. If it would respond in a decent way it would be awesome!

Here's my opinion. This IS the future of DAWS. Not tomorrow. Not the next day. But not that far off. And I also think that Cakewalk and the bakers see this same future and have designed the X1 interface, or at least a version that will be familiar and fit on a 'pad', to accommodate that future. At the recent CES consumer electronic show there were no fewer than 80 new ipad competitors introduced. Android, win apps you name it. I can see a very cool pad of some kind sitting next to my DAW controlling all KINDS of features. It's coming and I think the bakers know it.

Been using using Novation Automap with my iphone or some time now and I don't even have any novation hardware, works quite well, if you run a dedicated wifi with a good router there are no problems. I might pick up a nocturn just to run plug ins but at this point it seems to work without the hardware controller so why should I? My next toy/tool will be an iPad, just for this.
I'm using SOnar Platinium on a 6 core Lynx Audio machine and a ton of vintage pre-amps/eq's/comps I build for fun and sometimes money, REDD.47/API/Neve I also use the UAD stuff, and also use a Macbook Logic 9 through Apogee...

I own the previous version of the Saitara software - AC-7 Pro - and it absolutely will not work with Sonar. I've had the latest version - AC-7 Core - installed and in-use for a little more than week now, and it is wonderful. Every one of the functions listed in the 'hidden' Mackie Control via Sonar manual (hit 'F1' when in the Mackie Control controller setup dialog) works as detailed. The AC-7 does not have a version of the pots that are on an actual Mackie Control, but it has a rather smart way of shifting the pot functions to it's virtual faders. The AC-7 is also the cheapest, full-featured wireless DAW controller you are likely to get your hands on. I suspect that remains a true statement even if you had to first run out and buy an iPad to run it on. Technically, I run mine wirelessly to an Apple Airport Extreme that is hardwired to my custom Windows 7 64-bit PC running X1a. Communication with the PC is via rtpMidi software. It is functionally and visually identical to the CoreMidi network utility that is built-in to every mac. It runs quietly in the background and needs no attention after initial configuration. I ran AC-7 in Logic over the weekend at a buddy's studio, just to test is versatility and range of compatibility, and it is awesome. Just for giggles, via rtpMidi I was even able to wirelessly play the software synths on my iPad using the Axiom 49 connected to my workstation. Latency was a bit high for practical use, but interesting nonetheless. Latency when using the AC-7 Core is a non-issue on my system (I built the system about four years ago, so newer systems ought to perform even better). There is a barely detectable lag when pushing transport buttons. Barely. There is zero lag when moving faders, and pushing other buttons. I do not notice any lag on the bouncing meters nor timeline display, but they appear to be lower resolution (sampled/updated less frequently than you might expect) in order to avoid any detectable lag. Super cool app, and incredibly useful at a price far exceeding the $8 that Saitara is actually charging.

MNorman Just came across this: http://saitarasoftware.com/Site/AC-7_Core.html Anyone have any experience with this? For $7.99, hard to go wrong. Hooking it up to X1A now... I just picked this up to use my iphone on weekends when no one else is here, to trigger my DAW, it works AMAZINGLY, I had automap and will keep it for plug-ins but for simple transport and control from another room this is a great product...took me about half an hour to figure out how to use the rptmidi (I finally broke down and read the instruction, whadda ya know!), and I was not even using a dedicated wifi, just trying it out on the studio internet wifi connection which is located about 100 feet away, there was no noticeable latency, I think the iphone version was only like 5 bucks...(AC-7 mini)

Saitara, you guys going to release an android app for SONAR etc.? I don't feel like adding wireless problems to my set up. Hopefully someone will come out with a 10 inch tablet w/ USB connection. @

I picked up a Galaxy Tab a few days ago with the intention of using it for Android development. It should happen but I won't make any promises about release dates just yet. "adding wireless problems" - If you're concerned about this, you can use the AC-7 Core wired instead. It needs a few extra bits and pieces though... The connection goes: iPad -> iPad Camera Connection Kit (USB) -> USB to MIDI cable (M-Audio Uno or Cakewalk UM-1G for example) -> spare MIDI In and Out on your system It then functions the same as a hardware unit with no wifi latency etc.

I am trying to setup the AC-7 software on my ipad2. I have the latest version of rtpMIDI (1.0.6b220). My ipad shows up and connects no problem with under 5ms latencies. I opened ports 5004 and 5005 on my router. My problem is that Sonar XT hangs on "connecting" after I set up the settings for a Mackie control per the AC-7 setup instructions. Even after rebooting my ipad and computer but Sonar still won't lock up with my ipad. Funny thing is that moving a fader on the ipad shows up in the sonar midi activity window. Any thoughts?

Not with SONAR but with the Presonus Mixers like the Studio Live 24.4.2. You can run a virtual mixer on a laptop and with the aid of a wireless router as many as 24 different users can control their own live mix on stage with the aid of an iPad. With in ear monitoring taking over in a big way, feedback is almost completely eliminated and no need for a seperate monitor mixer. the FOH guy is not stuck at his mixing position and can move around and check out the sound all the while having control over the mix. Awesome stuff going around for sure. Wish I could get to shows like the CES and NAMM etc but we don't have such shows in Australia.

What did it for me was a button on the last screenset on the bottom. I have the Mini version so it would probably be different for you. This guy Colin may write a good program but he lacks in customer service (severely). Something as simple as screenshots from the Ipad and he cannot post them. I'm using it on the IPhone so my screenshots I take are to low res and I still can't read the SS I took. His forum is always down too.

All I asked for were screenshots. How hard is that? It works great otherwise. I only use it for transport control to make recording easier but it would be nice to know what the other buttons are.

Anyone know of any similar apps for the iPhone? I realise the physical size difference between the phone and the pad would cause some limitations but it would still be useful and fun to give it a go.

I load up sonar and create a Mackie controller using the midi port names generated from rtpMIDI then I hit reset on the AC-7 but sonar just says "connecting". I did try your suggestion and hit every button on the AC-7 app but that didn't help. I even tried a couple different modes as well as other surface controller options inside sonar.

PM from LunarSoundDesign finally got my attention... Sorry, I've been up to my ears in code lately and haven't been following the forum. LunarSoundDesign: It sounds like you're nearly there. Like others said, make sure you're in "Sonar Mode" and push the RESET button after creating the "Mackie Control" or "Mackie Control Universal". It'll then exchange the required handshake messages with Sonar, and the connection will be established. If not, reboot the device and try again. Guitarpima: Didn't mean to leave you hanging... You asked for iPad screenshots of the iPhone app. The iPad just doubles every pixel so the screenshots would be identical to what you already have on your iPhone. Your comments on the other thread were noted of course. I do this alone and it's not easy juggling everything while trying to improve the software too. I will try harder though.
