Saitara PM from LunarSoundDesign finally got my attention... Sorry, I've been up to my ears in code lately and haven't been following the forum. LunarSoundDesign: It sounds like you're nearly there. Like others said, make sure you're in "Sonar Mode" and push the RESET button after creating the "Mackie Control" or "Mackie Control Universal". It'll then exchange the required handshake messages with Sonar, and the connection will be established. If not, reboot the device and try again. Guitarpima: Didn't mean to leave you hanging... You asked for iPad screenshots of the iPhone app. The iPad just doubles every pixel so the screenshots would be identical to what you already have on your iPhone. Your comments on the other thread were noted of course. I do this alone and it's not easy juggling everything while trying to improve the software too. I will try harder though. Hi Saitara, or anyone else for that matter Could you explain to me what you meant when you mentioned "Sonar Mode" and also creating mackie control I am using Sonar Producer 8.5.3 with xp and the AC-7 core mini on a ipod touch. thanks,Brian

On the "Trans" screen there is a button called "mode". Press that until it says "Sonar mode" in the top right underneath the 0s. I just realized that I can zoom it on my Iphone. So, I'll be able to figure the buttons out. Not that I'll use them. I really only got it to use for transport and now I can make it easier to use with the zoom feature. DUH!!!

Just an update. I installed MidiPads on the ipad which uses rtpMIDI and I am able to get it to successfully control battery inside sonar and standalone mode so I know that my ipad is communicating with the rtpMIDI. I feel like the reset button does not work as stated, when I click it the sound is different than the other buttons and like I said, it never establishes a connection with sonar.

Hi, I just installed both the AC7 Core on my iPad and the AC7 Core Mini on my iPhone. Both of them connected but I did have a bit of a time getting the AC7 Core Mini to connect and it appears the reason was because I needed to restart the rtpMIDI service. Once I did that, it found my device and then everything worked fine. I did not have any issues with the AC7 Core though. What I did was the following: 1) Installed the App on my iPad 2) Installed the rtpMIDI service 3) Selected and added the iPad device from within the rtpMIDI GUI 4) Enabled the PC running Sonar from within the rtpMIDI GUI 5) Started up Sonar and selected an existing project. This project already had the V-Studio 700 setup as a control surface 6) Added the Mackie Control surface to the project and made sure both the Input and Output were set as the PC running Sonar 7) Applied the changes and exited from the project settings 8) Selected the Mackie control surface 9) Started the AC7 Core App on my iPad 10) Clicked on the mode button until Sonar Mode appeared right above where it says master volume 11) Clicked on the Reset button After that I played some of the project, moved faders etc... It even worked with my V-Studio 700 and controlled all the faders on the console.

I've even turned off my windows firewall and opened the appropriate ports on my router as mentioned before.

Just out of interest, what version of the OS do you have? I do not have the iPad 2. Only the first version and the OS is version 4.2.1 (8C148). I am wondering if it is an actual device issue or OS issue.

I'm using an iPad 2 v4.3.2. Would be nice if the creator would be more responsive. I've tried him via email, their forums and a PM here. I know it's only $7 buck but you should support your product better.

There is now a plug-in for Reaper called Reaper_www that allows you to control its transport and some other things from any device with a web browser! Maybe Cakewalk could make something like this for SONAR then we'd not have to buy iPads and the like. I've set up the Reaper plug-in and it works perfectly.

For those that want to see these things working in real time - go to the Presonus website and check out some of their videos showing a DAW being controlled by an iPad and inturn controlling the StudioLive mixer in a live situation. All they do is add a wireless router to the laptop and the Mixer to the laptop. Latency is very good and the working range is absolutley great. Obviously there are some drivers and software included to make the magic but it looks very clean and doable. I have been so impressed with the 24.4.2 mixer that I have ordered one which arrived yesterday. I don't imagine it will be long before I get an iPad but for the moment I will be working on making my iPhone work with this setup.

I gave up on this app working. If you have an iPad 2 don't spend your money until they update it or decide to actually support the product.

Start the rptMidi program , start SONAR, create a Control Surface, then start AC-7Core mini on the iPhone. Works like a charm. Just have toi work oout what controls what but it's excellent so far. Doesn't annoy SONAR at all even though my laptop is using WiFi. I first had difficulty getting it all to work but I perservered and got it happening. All my concerns were really user error.

Your best bet is to use a project with a changed name and just go trial and error. There is no support for these apps.

As a confirmed Apple-hater it took a really good reason for me to buy an iPad, but I'm using AC-7 Core too. It works seamlessly in Sonar by emulating a Mackie control surface. You have to have both the unit and the DAW connected to your wifi. The best use I've had for it so far is when I'm recording and can't be arsed to walk over to press the spacebar. I wouldn't use it for mixing. The Omnisphere app for the ipad is pretty cool as well.

I just got the iPad and Sonar working together. I needed to update to the latest Sonar fix as some of the AC 7 functions werent working. I now have it talking flawlessly using a wifi connection ad hoc computer to computer so there is very little latency and no need to have my recording rig connected to the internet. This is so cool

My experience thus far: I have the Mackie control surface "connecting" issue between my desktop PC (Win7 64 bit) running Sonar X1 Producer (X1c) and AC-7 running on my iPad2. rtpMIDI works as advertised and absolutely is not the problem. AC-7 Core (running on iPad2) is also not the problem for sure. In troubleshooting this !@#$% problem, I decided to install SOnar X1 and rtpMIDI on my laptop (Win 7 64 bit) and see if that worked. It did without any issues. Start up rtpMIDI, start up AC-7 and rtpMIDI connects. Then start up X1, start a new project, and hit reset on the AC-7 and instant connection. This means AC-7's OK, my network is OK, and rtpMIDI is OK. It must be some obscure setting in Sonar. I believe that it cannot be any sort of network/security/firewall issue because rtpMIDI connects fine. I can't believe it's a Windows 7 issue because I have the same OS on both platforms. I'm gonna dig a little deeper here, but if any of you guys have found the silver bullet, please post up here so I can stop pulling what little hair I have left out!

Another small clue. From the desktop PC (that's the one I'm having trouble with), when I hit various buttons on AC-7, I get a MIDI signals showing up on channel 1 of the rtpMIDI Sonar input as notes in track view. This behavior does not show up when using the laptop (the one that works fine with AC-7). Could it be, that the desktop Sonar believes that AC-7 is a normal instrument and keeps the control surface connection request from getting to it? Still digging...Stay tuned.

Problem Fixed! Stop Sonar Go to C:Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\Sonar X1 Producer folder with Windows Explorer and delete (or rename if you're the cautious type) ctrlsurface.dat and ttseq.ini. Restart Sonar, select your MIDI inputs and outputs, create a Mackie control surface and hit reset on the AC-7. This worked for me. Apparently the ctrlsurface.dat file (or maybe ttseq.ini) was corrupted. Sonar apparently creates these two files if they are not found at Sonar startup time. I'm not sure why our good pals at Cakewalk haven't chimed in here because I found this fix in the AC-7 forum (saitara.freeforums.org/notconnecting-t99.html) and the answer above originated from Cakewalk support. You'd think the support engineers would troll their own forum, but they're probably pretty busy.

Been using V-Control Pro. I have not got confirmation from the developer if you works in Sonar X1 yet or not, its a amazing piece of software. If it doesn't have Sonar support yet (which is unclear, the site says and much more under compatible daws) I would push to get this controller since there is windows support. For studio one its a dream come true for my rig! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5Vcgf3-jvs&feature=player_embedded

I think this is just the tip of the iceberg for tablet control of DAW...
