Sonar Platinum install issue
Can't get new updates, the last update that worked was Version 22.6.0 Build 26 [2016.06]. When I tried installing 22.7.0.41 it went all the way through the install Process but at the end it gave me the error "Access is denied." and reverted back to version 22.6. This was under windows 7. I ran the install as admin. I was told that I needed to update some drivers. So I upgraded to Windows 10 pro. Having the same error. So I put this computer online to run the command center. It will not run either I get the error "Unfortunately something went wrong and Command Center was unable to recover. Click OK to restart or Cancel to close" the error box has this in 6 different languages. What can I try? it's hard to get support on the phone. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I tried installing the new update it gave me the same error, but when it reverted back to version 22.6 I lost my activation. So it put me into demo mode. I tried the offline activation but it wouldn't work. I reinstalled the old version 22.6, It took it out of demo mode but when I go to the about tab, it states that I own version 22.6 but I'm no longer a member. My membership is good till 2017 of January. Thanks Keith

Well I guess I will focus on just one of the problems with my upgrade problems that I'm having. Command Center is giving me this error when I try to sign in "Unfortunately something went wrong and Command Center was unable to recover. Click OK to restart or Cancel to close" Has anyone experienced this error? My labtop which is running windows 10 Command Center runs fine and updates fine. But on my desktop which is now running windows 10 will not update. I did get some advice from a cakewalk rep, he suggested for me to del the "Cache" directory found in C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Command Center folder. I tried this and Command Center still gives same errors.. Any ideas?

Hi I always get problems when I try to update, especially If you do not have the latest Command Centre. Another problem you get Is like you said nothing wants to update, even the Command Centre. Solution to that Is to Uninstall the Command Centre go to the Cakewalk site and download and run the latest Command Centre. That works for me every time. All the best john

Well I done a fresh install, and still the same error "Unfortunately something went wrong and Command Center was unable to recover. Click OK to restart or Cancel to close" I put in a service request, it states it takes 3 business days for a response so unless anyone has any other idea's I'm at the mercy of cakewalk for other things to look for or try.....

I did a Google search for: site:forum.cakewalk.com unable to recover Here are two links to threads that cover that error for Command Center: (edited to remove a third link, because there was no helpful info in it) http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3252136http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3200599 Maybe something in one of those could be of assistance? I looked at the links giving to me, Some of the things that was suggested for them to try I have tried with the same results, but with taking my computer to another location due to a firewall issue I don't think is the issue. I can sign into cakewalk through my web browser and download the updates fine. I'm thinking the command center and the offline update install may be related. When I try installing by downloading the files and running them on my computer the update starts working up until the progress bar gets near the end then a box pop's up saying "access denied" and when I click the OK button it states that it is reverting back to previous version. My thoughts are that because I can't install offline, command center may not install as well. Still researching......

I got more information that may help in helping me upgrade to the latest version of sonar Plat. The status bar moves all the way through the install process and stays green the whole time. It reaches the end and when it displays "registering files" the status bar turns red and a pop up box comes up and displays "Access Denied" with a OK button. When I click on OK it reads reverting back to previous version.....

When I upgraded to one of the more recent Platinum builds (6?) I had something similar. My solution was to bypass using Command Center all together and run the exe. I have not upgraded to the most recent build yet.

That sure sounds like a C++ Run Time library is not present, (lots of folks in the past got these kinds of error messages when their Windows Maintenance was not up to snuff - though I am not at all sure that is the case on your computer). I wish I could help you more. I'll it swirl around in my head for a while and circle back later tonight and see if I can come up with anything more than the above (which was just a guess). Bob Bone

Hey Bob, if this is the CC++ Run Time library is not present, how do install the library? Could this also be the issue with why my command center gives an error as well? but before I jump to soon I will wait to see what you may come up with while you are thinking on this for a while. Thanks,

Have you tried rolling back your Windows 10 update to previous history location? Just a shot. This has happened to me a few times and that fixed the issue of updating Sonar.

Well I'm running windows 7 on my desktop, my laptop is running windows 10 and all installed fine through command center on my laptop, but my labtop is not what I use to record with. I did briefly upgrade my desktop to windows 10 to see if that was the issue. Still did the same thing. So I'm currently back to windows 7 on my desktop, I have a separate hard drive that is a clone of my main drive. So when I figure out what is wrong I can fix my main drive. I'm currently running Sonar Plat 22.7. Never had any upgrade issues till version 22.8. Now all of my upgrades on my desktop has always been by downloading the upgrade file. My desktop was never online, up until I had this issue.

As noted above this sounds like the C++ library problem on Win 7. I had skimmed your original post and thought you upgraded to Win10, which should have updated such stuff automatically. Check my last post here on page 1 and see if that helps; http://forum.cakewalk.com...-m3413654.aspx#3434059

Well Brian, I'm still at version 22.7. I did what you suggested, I uninstalled all of the Microsoft Visual C++ (X64) that I saw. Downloaded the lastest from microsoft and installed it. Rebooted computer Still didn't work. But this is what I find interesting. Since version 22.8 installed failed and stated that it is reverting back. I installed a older version 21.13(Newburyport). The Install still failed, but when I opened up sonar and looked at the about section it stated that I was running version 22.8 but it was in demo mode. So I tried the offline activation. Didn't work could not get it out of demo mode. So I installed version 22.7 the installation failed. But when I opened up sonar I'm back at 22.7 but the about status states that I own 22.7 but my membership ended 7/31/16. My membership doesn't end till January, 31 2017. I'm at least glad that everyone here is giving me things to try, I will not renew my membership in January I'm a little nervous about bug's now. I'm not sure what all the failed install's have affected. But if anyone has any other suggestions I'm open to try them. Thanks, Keith

Well doing all of the version install's caused a lot of issues when I loaded my projects. I'm having to restore my hard drive back to a known condition, which is Sonar Plat version 22.7. I'm getting alittle frustrated with trying to go to version 22.8. Looks like I will be at 22.7 unless anyone has any other idea's....

Your problem might be different, but I was never able to get Command Center to work. I had to install the .exes individually on each of my Win 7 computers.

Yes, I guess it's a different issue. My system is a Intel Core I5 2500k 3.30Ghz with 4gig of memory running windows 7. I have a old PCI sound card made by Echo. I never had any problems with upgrades until this one. Command Center may have never worked I always did the .exe installs due to internet access, this was my first time running Command Center. My next thing to try is to wipe system and reload everything and try loading sonar 22.8 as a first install.

Was getting ready to uninstall Cakewalk Platinum following the Clean install instructions on the cakewalk site. when I go to my control panel and I go to uninstall my Platinum x64 does not show up under the uninstall. Platinum x86 does. Could this be the reason for my install errors. Platinum x64 is install that is what I run all the time. But it's not in the uninstall section when I go to my control panel..

Its unlikely this is a firewall issue because you are able to get the files downloaded, which would not occur if CC was blocked at the firewall. "Access Denied" tends to point to a local permissions issue. Because of this it becomes less likely an uninstall will sort the problems, unless by coincidence it is able to delete the folder or file that is causing the problem but if the app has a permissions problem, that may not happen either. Bear in mind that 'admin' access doesn't necessarily let you access everything in Windows (7,8.x or 10). You may have to explicitly seize permissions to give yourself the rights needed. Unless there is an event log entry which tells you explicitly which folder is causing the problem you've got some hunting to do. As several have mentioned above, I'd suggest uninstalling Command Center. However before proceeding to any other steps I'd also go through the file system and look for anything that was not removed. You may stumble across the errant folder or file causing the problem. If you cannot delete, sieze permissions (right click, select security, then check the permissions on it to make sure you are the owner). Then delete that fecker with extreme prejudice. One thing I've not seen above (apologies if I missed it anyone) is to reboot your system into Safe Mode and then attempt uninstalling. It is possible a file is flagged as in-use, correctly or otherwise, and that it is preventing the process from completing successfully. I tend to lean towards it being a permissions issue but this is an option worth testing.

Thanks Roo Stercogburn, I took a spare hard drive and installed windows 10 on it. All has installed ok so far. So when I upgraded sonar platinum from 22.6.026 to 22.7.0.41 something got messed up. I have never used command center due to I don’t run my sonar computer online. I have always performed an offline upgrade from versions 21.0.01.254 to version 22.6.026 with no issues. So when I began to have issues with this last upgrade I installed command center and briefly put my sonar computer online. That’s when I discovered that command center fails to run. Would be nice to track down what is wrong, but I’m running out of time. I Will try to uninstall in safe mode to see if this will work.
