djjhart@aol.com Sorry a little OT...I didn't read through all the posts but I did read on another post a few weeks ago that Cw acquired a company that dose notation,, This leads me to believe that X2 will have a full blown Notation.. Somebody just posted that as an April Fools joke (on April 1st) poking fun at the state the staff view was in. Unless of course you have some inside knowledge on this

In 8.5.3, there can be different snap to grid values per view, be it track view, piano roll view, and staff view - and they don't interfere with each other. Is this feature gone in X1?

Yes, that feature is gone in X1. Snap To Grid is now global. Although, you can have different snap settings saved in each of the Screensets with a tweak of the INI config file. Scott -- Scott R. Yeah new snap settings are terrible. ;___; PRV needs its own snap setting. Staff view needs two settings - one for note grid and another for note entry, otherwise trying to add a quater note on an 8th note offbeat is a headache. We can only hope.

I know that this thread hasn't seen much activity for awhile, but as a latecomer to the party a big +1 to what has been said. I've been using Cakewalk for a very long time. I'm familiar with the look and feel of Sonar 8.5's notation and was happy with it for what is was. I DIDN'T upgrade to X1 because of the flawed matrix view. I just upgraded to X2 because the matrix view has supposedly been fixed to include support for hardware synths only to find out that the staff view, although prettier, is harder to use due to the missing note value icons. What a pain!

Yep.... I've decided to use a remote app on my iphone which selects "note icons" that correspond to keyboard shortcuts.. took a few days to setup everything using TIGHT VNC and an app called Keypad. It work quite well and is quite handy for step record too.. (also controls other keyboard shortcuts) Pity that the user has to jump thorugh so many hoops to get a better workflow..

What a pain! I thought the same thing, but it's actually easier in X2 to use the staff view. Just assign keys to the notes: W = whole H = half Q = quarter, etc. etc. Shift for dotted (SHIFT-Q for dotted quarter) CTRL for triplets (CTRL-E for triplet eighths. It's faster than Sonar 6, 7 or 8.... JG www.jerrygerber.com
