Update you may be able to completely remove the AI suite software, others who know about this might chirp in but from what I can perceive this may be unnecessary.

Thanks again Alex, I have done the uninstalls, and reinstalls, and updates (Little free driver updater, nice),  The AI software is an ASUS product that allows me to control my fans, Turn em up to chill everything off or quiet them down for acoustic recordings, while keeping one apprised of real-time temperatures on the  motherboard. Nice little program but I uninstalled it none the less.  But I cant find the AUD.INI file. Did a search, followed the path you gave with no joy. Not sure where else to look. Thanks again for all your time and help.

The following probably doesn't relate to these issues, but I always disconnect from the net and disable any anti-virus programs before I install anything. Apparently sometimes if a program starts messing around with system files, the anti-virus program swings into action. Again, not saying that's what's happening here, but it's something to keep in mind. There are even some programs that explicitly say that if you don't turn off anti-virus software before installing, the installation will not be successful.

The first 3 books in "The Musician's Guide to Home Recording" series are available from Hal Leonard and http://www.reverb.com. Listen to my music on http://www.YouTube.com/thecraiganderton, and visit http://www.craiganderton.com. Thanks!

I concur on temporarily suspending any antivirus software prior to installing trusted software, such as Sonar.  Probably also a good idea on disconnecting from web, but I don't currently do that.

There have been many threads where folks who have reported all kinds of weird errors have gone back and installed again after temporarily suspending their antivirus software, and then found that fixed the weirdness.

Sometimes, antivirus software even interferes with the download process, like downloading Sonar.

Thanks guys! I will heed all advice given. On the re installs as instructed by Alex I did indeed suspend the antivirus. That. May indeed help. I'm trying the AUD.INI file change, maybe the path is hidden. Thanks once more for all of your time and patience!

The path for the AUD.ini file should be:

C:\Users\Your User Name\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\SONAR X3 Producer

Sub X2 for X3 if that's what you are looking for.

Please note that the folder is actually hidden, so make sure you adjust your View options to display hidden folders.

Yes, the path to AUD.ini is hidden, AppData is a hidden directory in your user directory. One way to reset the AUD.ini and all the other init files and user data is holding the CTRL and SHIFT keys when starting SONAR. This "re-personalizes" SONAR, overwriting all of the user data in "C:\Your User Directory\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\Your Version of SONAR" with the master copy in "C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Your Version of SONAR" and fixes some registry entries.

Found the AUD.INI file, reset it.  Thought I would find a drum track and learn how to use these things when it hung again. I was changing programs in "Session Drummer" and sonar stopped responding. This is the log from that event.

Others may have better ideas but from my perspective I think I've exhausted this. Send the crash dump to sonar and send them an email if I were you...

Over to the rest of the gang who may have something more interesting things to say....
I would reread the thread again as well just in case...

You did try this and run windows update?

Re: Sonar X3c crashing 2013/12/01 14:01:43 (permalink)
Is it possible you have antivirus software running while trying to use Sonar?

If so, just for testing purposes, can you try temporarily suspending any antivirus software and launching Sonar again?  Before you do any of that, please get a clean boot, and then try the above test.

According to Microsoft, this error is fairly generic, but I did see a brief comment where one of their techs had indicated to someone that it can sometimes be caused by antivirus software interplay with applications that are executing.

Should be fairly easy to test.

Edited to remove question on your specs I reread and answered my own question.

Thanks,

Yes, the driver update was done, and I checked the windows update as well. Antivirus cont. to be suspended.
I will send the dump to Cakewalk and see. Thanks again for everyone's help. All is appreciated more than you will ever know. Dearly thanking all for time spent, input and patience. I learned a lot, still with the understanding of how much is to learn, (a little breathtaking at the amount). Thanks again guys!

@OP

Your machine should have no issues running other software at the same time as X3c, period. One thing that stuck out to me during this thread is your error post, which had this line in it:

Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ntdll.dll

This is a Win7 file issue that can occur for a few reasons. You can google "ntdll.dll errors" and only read links on Microsoft community sites (i.e. valid threads). Below are a couple good links which discuss that file and checks/solutions to fix it:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_xp-outlook/how-to-fix-ntdlldll-error/9e455b5a-cc9d-4724-9eb1-ecbd755366b2

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-system/ntdlldll-error/650a3853-7287-4aef-a41f-f0ed227ab8eb

The "best answers" to both of these posts have some simple steps to check the root cause/solve this issue.

Rather than have you chasing "phantoms" around, the "Faulting module path" is the "root cause" of the one thread you posted earlier.

"Faulting application name: NetSvcHelp.exe, version: 1.0.0.1, time stamp: 0x50223ca5
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7601.18247, time stamp: 0x521ea8e7
Exception code: 0xc0000005"

Yes, the application it faulted on was AI Suite II (which I also run full time), but the module is windows (i.e. global). One common key to ntdll.dll, and Exception code: 0xc0000005 is "Microsoft Outlook"... does that startup on its own when you boot your computer?

If you look at the line above : C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\AI Suite II\Network iControl\NetSvcHelp\NetSvcHelp.exe

.. which was discussed earlier in the thread...

Cheers..

Yes, thank mett and Alex, I had disabled/removed the AI software (and now my fans sound like thunder freezing my CPU and board), but nonetheless I understand necessity of ruling out all I can. I will read the threads. I do not use outlook that I am aware of. That is an email program of microsofts right? I use a mozilla product. I'll look and see to make sure it's not there. Thanks again!
(By the way, cakewalks tech support email is not functioning right now...)

I am assuming your event viewer errors are mostly cured by now, if not please paste here (reboot first if you haven't). No old messages unless the error persists. Cheers...

Oh and please try tech support tomorrow, if there's an issue specifically to do with tech support I suggest a new thread just to do with that.

Checking that Win7 is "whole" is a simple check:

Start - type this in Search Box ->  CMD   find at top and RIGHT CLICK  -  RUN AS ADMIN

Enter this at the prompt - sfc /scannow

Yes why not, but do a chkdsk first I suggest (and best to back up first if you can). Heck do a defrag for fun afterwards.
I'm thinking it's possibly dodgy plugins now, let's see what the event viewer says after all this.

After/before doing a chkdsk, I would also suggest doing a memory test (http://www.memtest86.com/).

A couple of times I have traced really odd behavior back to a faulty module.

Don't ask the question if you cannot live with the answer.

scan disk showed no violations, memtest showed all 32gb working properly, chkdsk showed no errors, 0% defragmented, no outlook running on startup or otherwise as far as I can tell...

This is like the "Energizer Bunny" issue. Did you run the system file checker in #83 above? That is a check that Windows can perform on itself to verify that the installed files are valid.

Doing a quick search on Event ID 1002 here as well.

Edit: Event ID 1002 (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc735604(v=ws.10).aspx) looks like it is mostly isolated to Windows Installer, and possibly a bad installation.

Did you reinstall X3 during your trouble shooting?

Re: Sonar X3c crashing 2013/12/02 09:23:22 (permalink)
If you hold a legitimate license for the software, you would not need to repurchase - at most, you would need to download again, and that is only if you either no longer have the original files or if they were potentially corrupted.

If you had done the original download with antivirus software running, you may have ended up with corrupted files on the download.

If that was the case, then you will want to download the install files again, from your store account, and this time temporarily suspend any and all antivirus software.  After completing the downloads (multiple files), you can evaluate them for 'correctness' with the check sum info provided by Cakewalk.  (I also recommend downloading using a file manager, such as the one included in Chrome).

If you had/have install discs instead, you would install from those.

Can you please detail how you went about doing the uninstall?  I just want to make sure you have gotten all traces removed, such as hidden data and registry entries.

Thanks,

Bob Bone
