Sonar's new name
In 1996 I was using cakewalk to make Drum and Bass and the name I used was Sonar. A few years later I started going to Barcelona to the Sonar festival. Then Cakewalk became Sonar and I had to stop calling myself that. Now it seems there is uncertainty in keeping the neme. As we are full of speculation at the moment, what would you call it? So for fun, what should Sonar's new name be? Phoenix Lazarus

Is Phoenix too corny? Yep. But just for the record, that's what I think it will be....

I agree, but I thought I should make some suggestions to get the ball rolling. I really like Sonar, and I liked it before cakewalk did, and hope they can keep it. I'd much prefer they turn the perception of Sonar around, than give a new name that everyone says 'oh its just Sonar with a new name' The Artist formally known as ..... The Professional formally known as ...... The Platinum formally known as ....... Maybe it should just have a symbol

While I love the software, there really needs to be some serious thought to the name. Sonar Platinum sounds good, but SPLAT is not. Do a Google search for SONAR and you have to go halfway down the first page before you get to anything about music software (on the other hand, search for BandLab and the software compnay is the number 1 return). A search for Phoenix brings up a ton of sites for Arizona. My guess is it will be something unique so that it hits the top result for any web search.

An incredibly astute point... Even REAPER, also (like SONAR) with an actual word as the name, returns as the first object in a google search...

The obvious I guess would be Cakewalk... the fact that they're using the logo means they've probably got rights to the name in any case. M.

I just found this site. Put a DAW related word into the "optional word" field at the top and hit generate, and it will come up with a bunch of (mostly crap) names based on that word. http://www.businessnamegenerators.com/

Hopefully the Pro Audio DAW along with Sonar products will hold onto Cakewalk - Sonar, Home Studio names etc. BandLab sounds like a great product name for a social media and tablet / phone type apps.
