Pink Fairies "Walk Don't Run" https://www.youtube.com/w...ist=PL51EFCAA5F97AFAA8 Wow didn't think I'd see anyone mention the Fairies!!!!! I saw them so many times that we started to do a cover of this cover!! Their's was always so powerful, well when they were straight enough to play their instruments. Last time I saw them (Paul, Duncan and Russel version of the Fairies) they were so stoned they couldn't even tune up! Shame...... On this album (What a bunch Sweeties) good cover of the Beatles saw her standing there, which might also qualify!!! Nigel

"God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" on the Jethro Tull Christmas Album. Don't know what the original was but it doesn't matter. No version that came before could possibly have been better.

Soft Cell's "Tainted Love." The original was great, but Marc Almond's gritty 80's synth pop version did the song more justice in my opinion, even if the video was kinda creepy.

I hated early 80's synth pop at the time but I love it now. For some reason.

IMO it's so easy to revamp a song to fit the taste of the day or the style of a "hot today"-artist, that I don't want to call the remakes any better than the originals. The fact that a remake version sounds more fresh or something is often obvious, especially talking about arrangements. Also, the original can be made rather cheaply By beginners and the cover is an expensive high end production By the hottest names in the industry. Of course, you can't deny the fact that some singers and instrumentalists are better or sound better for the song in question than some other. Rod Stewarts version of "Sailing" is an easy example, and Hanoi Rocks' version of "Up around the bend" is a good example of simple production vs. big production and the taste of the day.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

I've heard some terrible covers on the radio over the last few years, but I've never bothered to find out who they were. Usually it's some classic 60's or 70's song being sterilized by some generic shrink-wrapped vocalist who sings in that bland "American Idol" style. I think one of them was Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi." The instrumentation on these things is usually intensely forgettable as well.

Glyn Barnes There are quite a few other good intrepretations of Dylan Songs. Sandy Denny's cover of Richard Thompsons "For the Shame of Doing Wrong" and Elton's "Candle in the Wind" on her "Rendezvous" album. ... Sandy had more Dylan songs than anyone ... other than possibly Bryan Ferry ... who even did an album of them. Bryan Ferry also has done Neil Young (and better) and even John Lennon (better, too!)

Hi, Stevie Ray Vaughn did Roy Buchanan, way better! Sandy Denny and Fairport Convention, did Buffy Saint-Marie better ... in "Reynardine" (corrected) ... and of course, the most important one ... Jimi did the anthem ... better than anyone else! That should take the cake, although Toni McPhee's version (The Groundhogs) of Amazing Grace is also ... yeah!!! And Toni did his a couple of weeks before Jimi unleashed his at Woodstock ... and Jimi was at that show, apparently at Wembley.
