Yes, they were good at "borrowing" songs.

Hi, Mona -- Quicksilver. The Man Band had a raving version of this ... with a guest, and Deke says ... he don't know the notes, and neither do we! ... and they rip it! Not to mention that The Man Band also did some Quicksilver, and some of these with John Cippolina in the line up.

I saw the mention of Judas Priest redoing Green Manalishi.
How about the more obvious one like that?
Santana redid Black Magic Woman. That turned out to be a good decision for Santana.

Hi, Gosh ... now we could go to Three Dog Night ... who had hits of a poop load of songs of the musical "HAIR". In fact, I am not sure that any other musical in theater history had as many pieces on radio, or was as well represented. Considering that most of America would never see, or want to see the musical because of its politics and everything else ... I guess that's an accomplishment!

Not in the same way, no. The Stones were very respectful of blues musicians, and brought people like Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters to the attention of rock n' roll audiences. Zeppelin however, plundered the blues for riffs and lyrics without crediting artists like Willie Dixon for the source material.

They did it to Bert Jansch too, completely plagiarizing his Blackwaterside for their Black Mountain Side. Would have been flattering if they'd given proper credit, but hoping that "no-one will notice" is pretty lame.

Pedro, your intentions may be well meant to "enlighten" us all, but your method comes off to be very negative and condescending. If you have something to share with everyone, you can easily get your message across by simply changing your method to being a little positive......and also write it in that manner. Otherwise, all it does is discourage anyone to take the time to even look at what you're saying. Don't be a grumpy old man.....

My favorite covers that dramatically changed the songs have already been mentioned.... This Flight Tonight (Nazareth from Joni Mitchell) Green Manalishi (Judas Priest from Fleetwood Mac) Blinded by the Light (Manfred Mann from Springsteen) Here in Canada there was a band named Streetheart that did well for themselves in the late 70's early 80's. They were masters of "upping the ante" in regards to covers. Their 2nd album from 1978 contained two great examples.... Under My Thumb from the Stones https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEn7TfjxZRw Here Comes the Night from Them (Van Morrison) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNjbbVQ6mTo They had a few others as well.... on their 4th album they covered Small Faces "Tin Soldier" very faithfully and recently Kenny Shields (lead singer) covered "Black is Black" and took it to a new level.

Bajan Blue Pink Fairies "Walk Don't Run" https://www.youtube.com/w...ist=PL51EFCAA5F97AFAA8 Wow didn't think I'd see anyone mention the Fairies!!!!! I saw them so many times that we started to do a cover of this cover!! Their's was always so powerful, well when they were straight enough to play their instruments. Last time I saw them (Paul, Duncan and Russel version of the Fairies) they were so stoned they couldn't even tune up! Shame...... On this album (What a bunch Sweeties) good cover of the Beatles saw her standing there, which might also qualify!!! Nigel
I've known of the Social Deviants/Fairies for over 30 years but never got to see them until 2014 when they decided to put the band together again for a small tour of a few mid-sized venues and a few small festival gigs (because they could). Line-up was Russell Hunter (drums) Duncan Sanderson (bass) Andy Colquhoun (guitar) Jacki Windmill (perfussion, some synth and vocals) George Butler (drums). The Pink's two-drummers hammering away in a 700 capacity club with an excellent sound system really punched hard. Saw them again in 2015 minus Russell, playing what was probably their last but one ever gig. Mind you, they've said "that's it, no more" many times before... Never did get to see Mick Farren perform though :-( I did think of their "I saw her standing there" cover, but thought the Pink's are often best introduced in small doses :-/

The nudity in the show did not go well in many places in America, and STILL doesn't. What you're saying is that your head is too big to admit that something just aren't nice, or right ... but nakedness on a movie or polished violence, is OK with you! Take a hike!

Yeah ... look who's talking! And laughing! Craig ... it's not condescending, when there is hypocrisy in the previous comments. I happen to like "Hair", and I enjoyed a lot, all of the versions that Three Dog Night did. I did not post that to put them down, as their versions, were, for all intents and purposes, way better than the musical's versions, many of which suffer, because of the "stage musical" idea around them and behind them. It's like the song is trapped, and the new versions made them free!
