And a Sonitus limiter would be nice to replace the much unloved Boost.

The compressor and multiband have a 'limit' function, but it sounds awful--probably the only aspect of the Sonitus suite that I don't like.  A proper limiter would be nice to round out the set.  But since I rarely do stuff that needs much limiting I've found that Boost 11 works nicely to catch the occasional stray peak. For anything needing more limiting than that I go with Ozone.

And earlier in the thread I wished that the eq had a 'lasso nodes' function. Turns out that it already has that capability.

I use the Sonitus plugs all the time. As pointed out above the gui is very functional and well laid out.

It's easy to use the compressor as a limiter.

Ratio: inf
Attack: 0
Lower threshold until desired amount of gain reduction
Set desired output level

I generally use a fairly soft knee and leave the release at 200ms or set TCR on.

The Sonitus plugins provided me with my first 'wow' moment on X1.

I'd initially had some set up / audio problems and only managed to get cracking with Sonar in the last week.

The reverb plug was the first effect I applied to a guitar track - thought it sounded amazing.

Unfortunately - I'm only using X1 Essential - which includes 2 Sonitus effects only (reverb and EQ).

If the rest of the suite is as good, I'll be forking over the $99.

...I would be very happy to see a spectrum analysis plugin. I'm surprised that there isn't a native one in Sonar.

There is.  Doesn't X1 still ship with the Analyst DX plug?  Not that I use it or recommend it...but it's there.  I'd much rather use Voxengo's SPAN instead.

Love those Sonitus plugs and I use them ALL the time. The limiter is crap, but the compressor is perfect, the reverb has its use, EQ is fine and the Delay kicks ass!

I actually really like the GUI and I hope they don't change it. It comes up fast too.....

I own many different kinds of plugins.  From the included Sonitus Suite to WAVES, T-Racks, Izotope, UAD, etc., etc.

Just thought I would throw that out there.  Let me know what you think.

Cheers

So, are you saying you prefer the Sonitus plugs over Waves and UAD?

If so, we're hearing totally different things.

Use the plugs all the time, would be lost without them, although use Pro channel EQ alot more now in Sonar. Use sonitus in Sony Vegas Pro as well pretty much all the time. Sonitus compressor is great especially for side chaining. Would love to see a separate sonitus limiter though.

It falls into the whole industry standard type of thing i believe.  When i first got into this stuff many years ago I felt waves was at the top of their game and carved there place as the industry standard plugs much like pro tools did as a DAW.  Since then i feel they have kind of rode that out.  I'm not saying there plugs are crap by any means but for the price they charge I don't feel they are that much better than plugs that are significantly cheaper.  But they are able to charge crazy prices mainly because of their name. That said I don't think the sonitus sound better myself but I also don't think the waves stuff sounds that much better to warrant the price difference.   just my two cents.

I bring it up because I had read an article once about Sonar's VC-64 being modeled after the Kjaerhus Golden Audio Channel.
As far as I know it is the exact same plugin with a different skin.

Have you checked the Waves prices recently? They have been reduced dramatically. For instance the full Renaissance Maxx bundle (Ren Axx, Ren Bass, Ren Channel, Ren Comp, Ren DeEsser, Ren EQ, Ren Reverb, Ren Vox, IR-L Convo Reverb, Tune) is now $280.

Even one of their latest offerings, the MPX Master Tape is only $99. It is a very tough market out there...

Oh, and to get back on topic, yes, the Sonitus plugins still hold their own compared to many newer offerings. :-)

wow actually I haven't glad to see they are lowering their prices to match the market.  Like I said I really do like some of their plugs just had a hard time justifying shelling out the kind of cash they were asking.  Might have to check into the res pack though that's not a bad price.

yeah that is a big turnoff for me.  I had a bad experience years ago when I was on cubase with copy protection keys.  my key broke and I was never able to get my sx going again.  On the positive side though had that never happened I might not have ended up on sonar.

I like 'em. It's nice not to have to study a manual.
If you know what you want to do, the parameters are not hiding behind a 18 year-old's version of cool.
I run all my mixes thru the Multiband compressor preset to "vintage master medium" as a wee preview of what a mastered mix might sound like. (I never print it, just check it out).

I thought this was confirmed as true shortly after it came out actually. IIRC most people thought the new skin was...how do you say...NOT an improvement. I want to go so far as to say someone figured a way to hack it back to the GAC skin.

Sonically, the Sonitus plugs are *great* and stack up brilliantly against other plugs  +  they are 64bit native ....... however ....

->  they desperatly need a UI re-write / simplification

->  a dedicated limiter is still missing - why, I dont understand given that a good limiter is a real  " bread-and-butter " tool

->  it would be fantastic to see them coded over to VST as just about any decent useable hardware controller these days requires the plugs to be VST in order to be "wrapped"

Desperately?  Really? Bold red letters?

I prefer Sonitus specifically for its existing good GUI.  You can do anything with these, and do it instinctively. It's been brilliantly usable the whole time, and it does not look foolish and trendy.  Re-writing it will result in a step backward, because improvement of that which is already great proves too difficult.

Sonitus plugins have been available in VST for years now.

I agree with lallis. The Sonitus plugins have fantasticaly usable UIs. Even the newer cakewalk linear eq and multiband compressor are a step backwards in usability. The linear eq less so, but the sonitus eq is still more user friendly. With the sonitus, everything is quite logically laid out and simple to work. Please, no UI update, unless it's a spectrum analyzer under the eq graph. That would be nice to have. But as it is, the sonitus plugins have an excellent UI.
