Jeff Evans

Qualifications are only really useful if you are going for a job that requires them eg a teaching position. Of course many professions do require them eg a doctor but music and sound engineering does not. I have many qualifications, more than you my friend including a Bachelor degree in Jazz performance. (I must say though that is one qualification that is worth a lot, but even so I have composed hundreds of hours of music for theatre, TV and film and I did not learn any of it in any course. I just had to do it the hard way and keep making mistakes until I figured it all out and what worked and what didn't!)

I am a sound engineering teacher as well and that puts me well above what you know too. But even so I still feel all my best knowledge has just come from experience and sheer persistence. I would rather be like Danny Danzi any day of the week than studied ten courses in sound engineering.

One trend that I observed on a recent documentary on this was that now what is happening is that perspective employers of people are now doing internet searches to see what their perspective employees have posted on line before they hire them. They are checking them out before hand to see what sort of people they really are. It's one thing to present yourself well in a job interview but another being a complete idiot on line. I know for a fact that people have been rejected (and sacked) just on this basis alone.

Maybe it is not fair but interesting none the less. When you post even in the Sonar forum you are not just posting to a tiny group of people here, you are posting to the whole world! Ben how would you feel if you were going for a very good well paid job and they did some searching and came across the conversation that happned the other night. They would not be impressed. You would be dead in the water mate! It is not hard to track down who you are and where you have posted. I did it in minutes.

I get that Jeff and I already know that but I have alway's been an outsider, perhaps I shouldn't complain about not having work becuase of that fact.

It's the madmen who are the engine of change and creativity and I would prefer to be there any day, this probably means I am going to die alone, hunngry and sooner rather than latter.

I have accepted that and I did a long time ago, doesn't mean I am out of the race nor does it mean I have given in.

As I said, I was stirring a bit because John T and John 20000 posts IMHO are bullies and I have seen before, John 20000 post was appalling in the post that started the stouch.

Your wrong about qualifications in one way: Society still views educated people with respect, I only got them for that reason.

Trust me go before a judge and they see you are educated, you get treated differently, go for a rental property, you get treated different, go for a loan, you get my drift.

I've said my Mea Culpa what more do you want??

I don't know how to approach this. So forgive me being a little reticent. You all are able to read between the lines. Ben is not a bad guy but I believe he has some issues. Taking that into account we need to back off a little. No member should feel that we are arrayed against him or her when their only issue is not being to our liking.

My solution is to counter Ben by simply correcting posts he makes that need correction and without comment. We must know what our knowledge is collectively and individually that it is unnecessary to attack him as a person. We either are secure in this knowledge or we are weak and insecure.

I don't want to hear that due to our behavior here a member has something bad happen to them.

We need to let this go and welcome Ben here as we would any member for reasons you may now understand.

I know I am being difficult to read here. I have my reasons for being a little obscure.

Hopefully, you all will understand why. If not feel free to PM me. Then again I may be thinking more about this then I need to. I hope so.

 well, yep too.

I've said my Mea Culpa and I will leave it at that, I put up a whole line of insults that John 20000 posts said to me before I went on the offensive, I said sorrr to the OP for not reading or perhaps misunderstanding is question.

I'm not saying John was wrong or I am right but have a look at the thread and the insults that he was giving to me, before I even started drifinting into overdrive.

Yea I said some dribble, to stir the pot and once again Mea Culpa.

I know I came onto this forum like some cowboy, not knowing much about forum etiqute and I think we all need to understand that and give people some leway.

I think John T and John 20000 posts should think about this more than anyone.

Guess what?  I don't know everything, I never said I did but I did come accross brash and overconfident.

I have my own theories we all do, I just pointed to my marks 89% so I am somewhere in the ball park when it comes to audio ****.

Yes I try and help people because when I went to audio school, they kept the formula's or the how to do stuff like it was the formula to lead into gold, or was that Smurfs into gold

So Mea Culpa and I will try and stay away from The John and John dectective agency.

Christ, I'm trying to read the paper and do other things, more appoinments today and all I do is chat to you guys!!

You know what Ben? I don't care at all about etiquete, That's not my issue with you. My issue with you is your clearly expressed belief that your paper qualification makes you insantly and fundamentally superior to everyone else around here. That's not etiquete. That's a bad attitude, One that you've expressed many more times than just this weekend.

I am not sure I agree with you Ben about going for rental properties or loans. I have rented a few houses in my day and they have never looked into my qualifications. They look into your history as a tenant (how many houses you have destroyed in the past!)  and whether you can pay the rent on time and how well they think you are going to look after the property.

With loans they also don't really look into your qualifications either. That is more about your income and whether you can pay the loan back and also your credit history. If you have qualifications but no job (or income) you wont get a loan, simple as that.

When it comes to getting gigs as a mastering or mix engineer I also have never had my qualifications checked either. The client will usually just say give me a CD with 10 of your best mixes on it!

If you want to write music for film or TV they won't check your quals either. They will simply say show me some cues you have done. You can either do it or you can't.

As for going before a judge you don't need qualifications there either. You only need common sense and you will never find yourself in front of a judge, ever.

Sometimes we all get a head of steam and I have had some rough **** delt to me in my life, no I dont want sympathy, maybe understanding but I happy if you can't do that.  I am educated that is enough to make up for the horrible things that have happend to me.  I will reveal something to you guys and maybe you wont be so hard on me and perhaps I shouldn't but I John Lennon I am artist and I wont hide anything: my father tried to kill me when I was two with a spoon full of heroin.  He did not get to give it to me so I'm lucky, no brain damage which would have been the case if he had managed to get it down my throat.  I don't want your sympathy but just remember what that sort of truma does to a person, even though I cant remember it, it's there in my subconscious for life.  So whenever I am attacked or percived to be attack what do you think I do? defend.

I see so many shrinks and none have helped because you cant wipe your cant wipe this from your subconscious.

I've never had a loan. I mean, I've borrowed the odd tenner off a friend, but I've never owed a bank a red cent. I've operated in the black my entire life. True story. I also don't have a degree. But I'm going to get out of bed tomorrow and make some music and get paid for it. Where does that place me in the audio professionals' pecking order? Below Ben? Is that what he's asking me to believe?

I hope I don't regret this, but I do want to ask....Ben why do you speak harshly of and to others, and still expect them to "be nice" to you?

And to quote you; "Society still views educated people with respect, I only got them for that reason."
Here's another view related to that, and much more important; "Society respects people who respect other people."
If you try that, you'll have much more peace in your day to day living. But you have to truly want more peace. That's up to you.

Sorry I have been busy all day, just got back. I've walked the breadth and length of Hobart and I was serious when I said I don't want sympathy and I meant it. I've got a job tommorow and guess what when I said I couldn't do it because of financial reasons, they called me back and gave me all the assistaince in the world, the boss said he really wanted to give me a chance. So I must be doing something right.

As for the answer to your question, Joe and I am being honest, it's all about trauma, you get treated like ****, you treat people like ****. It's a protection mechanisim.

My education is all I have in the world, if any of you have seen that real horror film Snowtown, some of my family are really like that, no they are not serial killers but they are child abusers, sexual and emotional, even I have been tortured, it only happend once, I wont go into details but I hope that answers your question Joe (it's really hard and I don't want to talk about it, it wasn't sexual but it was weird).

As I say I don't want or need your sympathy, I am strong and fit and I never say die because of my experiences and it spills over on these forums and it spills over into my real life.

Jeff, I don't care what the world thinks of me!!!, People live in boxes and I run in the fields, I fall over, I hurt myself but I run free. If people want to judge me on a few words on a forum let them, "I've seen the one eyed witch doctor, I'vegot nothing to hide!"

As I say, I will take my medicine and if I have said or made people think I was the GOD OF AUDIO (I want write a song now called GOD OF AUDIO) then Mea Culpa again.

And Jeff, education does matter, yes the importent things like can you pay? is the first thing they look at but then they see that you have discipline and can be trusted because of that education. Trust me I have been to court enough times to know, you get treated differently, when I went and handed my resume in for the job I am doing tommorow, their eyes lit up when I told then I have three voc certificates, one degree and a masters. It made them want to try me out.

And when I went to the arts center to look for space to set up my mastering studio and I said I had a masters degree, guess what my toe got in the door.

So all I have is my silly cornflacke packet degrees, and I know that, thats what they are, they don't love you, they don't comfort you (maybe they do if your sick like me) and they are just peices of paper but they will help even if it's just to get that toe in the door.

I like you Jeff and always had great converstions with you and listened to your advice, like the Kmeter, best peice of advice I have got but maybe you have an inferiority complex or don't appreciate the hard work you have done, in regards to your education. This is not your fault University education has been degraded to being the sausage factory.

We fought hard in 1997 at Flinders in Adelaide to stop this from happening we lost, the scene from The Wall when the kids are being turned into mince meat is now true, I though haven't given up and I keep fighting, which once again spills over into this forum and my life.

John 20000 posts, I did not read what you said, sorry, the David Bowie song comes to mind:
"I was running at the speed of light, through morning thoughts and fantasies"
And that is me, I never read things properly, if I had, i would have apologised to you this morning, they we're gracious words and ones that I head and take on board.

Ok thats it for me, take it as you will or" take it as it comes, move real slow if you want your love to last".

I am not the devil or even uncle to the devil, I am just a sunburst and I can be too much for most people but if you need someone in your corner, then it is me!! But some may take even that the wrong way.

Ben I don't want any harm to come to you. I don't want you to feel that you are not wanted on the X1 forum either.

I don't know what the culture is like in Australia. Here in the US we do have a class structure based on merit and money. However, no one is better than another in law and in the meaning and idea of the US. We don't live up to that ideal but we do try.

Also what you are trying to get into is considered blue collar here. Its a trade not a profession.  The people you hold in such low esteem is exactly what group of people you are trying to become a part of.

This forum is meant for like minded CW users to interact with one another. To help one another.  To discuss issues and solve problems.

Its also a social network. We try to be considerate of others. However we being mostly human, we have human weakness and sometimes post out of anger. Or we misinterpret what has been posted and react to the post badly. I make no excuse but I offer it as explanation.

In the end be assured that you are liked and that no one on this forum wishes you anything but the very best.

To me you are very young and have a lot ahead of you. I want to think that this forum will see you through hard times and good times.

You must try to find away to respect all those already here, however. No one wants someone to disrespect them. Somehow you do even when you don't think you are.

You talk about my post count. The vast majority of them were posted in answer to a question or in helping another to solve a problem.  As a percentage my guess would 10% could be described as banter. The rest being helpful. For many years the CH was closed because a group way back got out of hand posting in it. Many of those old members were banned. I didn't participate in that CH and haven't done much in this one. My posts are meant for the Sonar and X1 forums. So my view is I got those numbers from being helpful.

I was one of the very first on this forum when it started. From a newsgroup to the form it is now. I was in the old newsgroup.

I haven't ever been banned nor asked to leave by CW.

Post count only matters if the posts are useful to others. Ultimately its the quality of the last post that matters.

Although you are making fun of the amount, I see it as making fun out of ignorance. Thus I have no problem with your doing so. I know how and why each number was gotten. I am also proud of my record. Nothing I have written am I ashamed of.

Any way have a very rich and great time here. You have control on how rich it can be.

No I wasn't making fun of your post count, maybe in the heat of battle, it was just a way of identifying you, I hope you read my previous post and understand the battle ****.

We will leave it at that and as I say if you think I have it wrong lets talk in private, PM me.

And I agree its a large nation and we have a right to land to quote Leonard Cohen.

I will try and tone it down, it's hard I know me and I have been designed with battle in mind, that may sound nuts but sometimes you find out who you are young, like Napoleon, I think,... he understood when he was young this is what he was meant to do.

So Peace and lets be digital friends, I think we can learn from each other, I hope you read my previous post and understand the position I am in, no sympathy, I am a fighter but a little love from this great nation would be nice.

Love Neb
