It may not be a selling point to new users, but it could be a keeping point for old ones.

I think it can be more of selling point than is obvious.  A lot of musicians looking for a DAW may be interested in working in a staff view, but if Sonar doesn't have a good one, they'll just buy something else and we'll never hear from them.  As far as Cakewalk is concerned, these musicians don't exist.  Meanwhile competitors are making the sales.

As for schools, maybe they would use Sonar more if it had a proper staff view and Cakewalk gave a few copies away.

Sonar "Artist" for $99 (or less discounted) would be an awesome deal for students, and if it had a better staff view it would be a killer learning app for music classes.

Then you have an easy upgrade path for later on.   I just think there's a lot of potential markets if you think a tiny bit outside of the box.

I consider the SV in Sonar to be a great working man's (or lady's) MIDI notation editing tool.  It is not for printing beautiful scores like Sibelius or Finale.  Simple stuff it can handle, but fixing the triplet issue and snap functions within the editor would go a long way to satisfy SV users.

If beautiful printed scores are the goal, then MXML or MIDI export should be used to get data into serious Notation programs.

There's a recent thread with notation in the title and in post #11, Bill Jackson gives the final word on the current Notation situation. Like it or lump it that's the reality.

That was not the spirit of Bill Jackson's posts.

The two takeaways for me:

1)  Potential SV improvements are more realistic now more than ever before - thanks for being patient
 - HOWEVER -
2) No current SV development in progress at this moment

I completely agree.   Without trying to read anything into it and just taking Bill at his word, literally, this is essentially what he wrote.   And I take that as a very good sign, better than I've seen in years!

I've said this a few times in the past, but while the SV may not an important part of SONAR for me I really want it to be.  I've been reading music for the last 40+ years so I'm really just looking for some fixes and maybe a little UI love.  Then I'd likely use it for its intended purpose - the PRV is where I "live" in SONAR much of the time, but I wouldn't mind a beach house too.

There was years ago a mock up  linking the staff view and the PRV. With the idea of having a whole note in the staff view but you could still shorten or lengthen it in the PRV. Was a really neat idea. Also I concur about the triplets.
I made a simple lead line for my wife and the triplet bug hit me. I had to open Finale and do it in there.
Which is fine but  I was messing around in Sonar 6 at the time I believe. I shouldn't have to go to all that trouble for
a simple flute part  I also have been reading music for 40+ years and I have one of the top notation products, but
Sonar really should have a better staff view.
