Without any more information, I just can't get excited about that. When they explain what gives it the best features, I might be interested.

It was a given they'd improve the step sequencer. I use it but it needed improving.

I look forward to seeing the step sequencer improvements, and I'm very glad to hear of this new feature! I also like the SD3, and new 32bit VST compatibility features. I hope my DR 008 will function fully in SONAR X64, as in SONAR 32bit version as a result of the new 32bit VST compatibility feature. But, man, this sneak peak one feature per day deal is leaving me wanting to see more. Chit. I wish they would just list all the new features!!! This is sorta like torture. At least there is something to look forward to each day til the update is available for download. That's the good side to this. I already know that I'm gonna dish out the $99 for this update.

I'm sure Logic has something similar or superior. You're so funny Oaf. I don't use Logic or even own a Mac! But I will say here for the record, I'm using Cubase 5 and LOVING it. However please be aware that I am a long-time Cakewalk customer. Here is a list: Sonar 4 Home Studio XL Sonar 5 Studio upgrade Sonar 6 Producer edition upgrade Sonar 7 Producer edition upgrade Project 5 Dimension Pro Rapture Pyro To get back on topic. If Sonar's Step Sequencer 2 can match or more appropriately best Cubase's Beat Designer, then I'll be exploring further. But the more I use Cubase, the more it seems to fit real well, something I'm sure you'll not be saddened over Oaf, since it means I'll be spending little or no time around here. Best regards! NP

re: Mini - was advised by numerous sources that it was bordering on unfit for any type of serious Logic usage. Luckily I had not opened Logic 8 Express. Apple store took everything back and didn't charge me the 10% restocking fee. Then went with Cubase 5 Studio. Very happy so far. Tight grooves. Loops don't hickup upon cycle back, and a whole bunch of other niceties. A couple of Cubase trainers who have commercially published material claim that Sonar has "borrowed" many of its features from Cubase. I see that to be true. So it has been quite easy learning how to get around it.

The next version of SONAR's probability feature will keep your step sequenced patterns sounding fresh What do you guys think - some sort of intelligent randomization feature?

What do you guys think - some sort of intelligent randomization feature? Yup, that's my guess. Will be good to use it on drum tracks too.

On step sequencers and arpeggiators, "probability" controls the amount of chance that notes in the pattern will sound when the sequence plays. A high setting like 100% means the pattern will play exactly as written. A low probability means that many or all notes will not sound. This gives a random effect as the pattern repeats. D.

Those never work on drum tracks. Good drummers don't "randomize" the way a computer attempts to impose on their performance. They randomize in a more "human" way. I think it will be more of a melody, chord mangler type thing, which already exists with the Sugar Bytes stuff, as well as Cubase's Loop Mash, and most likely more than a few others. Again, no complaints. Just stating that this isn't revolutionary new technology. Just added features.
