I would also add that in terms of ease of use Eco and EZdrummer are pretty much the same. Whilst Eco offers far more options in terms of tweak-ability there is no obligation tweak (so to speak) and they sound great out of the box. But it's nice to know you can if you want to (I think)
Also, although there is talk from fxpansion of a 64bit update it is not a certainty and it's currently at 32bit as is EZdrummer. Both plug ins being so light and therefore placing little demand on your computer means the need for 64bit is far less and I find both run flawlessly on my machine (which is quite powerful it has to be said)  :))

OK, now I am confusedI have several questions. Is BFD ECO 15+ bucks at Audiomidi? Is there a coupon, if so where is it? (I will check this thread again and sign in at AM to see if a code is offered).
I probably don't need both ECO and EZD, I have EZD lite and am leaning toward SW and EZD but really I want the one that is easiest to use. I am not really interested in which one has the most tweaks because I don't want to do a bunch of drum tweaking. If I record something good enough to need better drums I will get a real drummer to help me out... so I want easiest, less potential hiccups and the least learning curve. Still, if I can get ECO for 15 bucks and EZD for 29 bucks, I will get both... that, IMO, is a no brainer.

One other thing I noticed that on Audiomidi it is clear that ECO is 32 bit, SW nor Toontrack seem to mention if EZD is 32 bit or 64 bit or if there is an option... is 64bit an option with EXDrummer?

I almost didn't come online today... I am glad I did!

Julien

OK I am pretty sure I can answer your questions on this. EZDrummer as it ships or as it downloads is 32 bit BUT when you install it then apply the two patches (first to get up to current 32 bit version then from there to get that to 64 bit...stupid yes) it IS 64 bit.

I got BFD Eco for $14 at audiomidi by starting with the $29 price for the download and applying the AM15 discount coupon. By the way, I was able to use it twice which was nice. I used the exact same coupon to get the Nomad plugins for $5. You will see that the audiomidi web site tells you that you get a serial number only. This is more or less true but you get the downloaded software from FXpansion's web site where you also use the serial number you got to register the package so you can use it. Pretty painless. It took about 10 hours or so for my serial number to arrive from audiomidi.com. I downloaded the software and activated it and have it running just fine.

As far as value goes I am totally blown away that I only paid $14 for the BFD Eco package. It was WAY more useful than I would have imagined for the price. Yes, it is a 32 bit VST but it seems to work fine. It has a lot more options and kits than the stock EZDrummer but I was just goofing around with it and dropping groove clips into it and it was very cool. I definitely would still get EZDrummer for $29 cause it has well crafted expansion libraries. I just picked up the Nashville expansion for $39.

Yes that is why I am getting Eco. I have ezD. Of course I have Session Drummer 3 ( the Andy Johns kit is nice. Like it a lot) and each has it's own sound. And with all the good things I heard on here about BFD and now the sale, yes this is the proverbial "No Brainer!!"

Ordered and downloaded EZDrummer. Tried to install and I got multi boxes about missing files, so... I deleted it all and am going to try another DL. If I have problems I will post what the error says in case anyone has any ideas. EZD lite installed a while back with no trouble so I expect this time it will work. I still don't have a SN from Audiomidi, no hurry but it's been almost an hour.
Are they usually this slow sending SNs? I guess it is the hoiday and the sale has 'em backed up a bit.

Going to try EZD again now...

Thanks for the good info. I will stop checking for the AM SN. I'll check for it tomorrow. What do you think about the Nashville expansion? I think that it would suit me, or the Americana. I live in country rock, blues, and a sort of blend... of all that.

Thanks again!

AudioMidi's home page tells the story. They're off today and aren't sending out serial numbers. They'll return tomorrow.

OK, I am having trouble installing EZDrummer. I have downloaded it twice. The first time didn't work so I deleted everything and started over. I saved the file, accepted the agreement, clicked yes to the allow boxes and it got a little bit farther this time but I get a box that asks if I want to Abort, Retry or Ignore.
Error 1309: Error readin from file.
C:\users\****\Appdata\Local\Temp\temp\Temp1_TT106_EZ
drummer_WIN.zip\TT106EZD\program files
Toontrack\EZDrummer\HelpMenu\EXCore.pdf.
Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.

Of course I don't want to Abort or Ignore. Since I have tried this twice I figure I am doing something wrong. Maybe I missed some place where I should have "run as administrator"? Any ideas. This is just the first box I have encountered this time. On the first try there were MANY of them.
In the mean time I am going to abort and go back to see if there is a step where I can choose to "run as admin".
Thanks,
Julien

Glad to help. I think it is too early for me to give a good verdict on the Nashville package other than to say it definitely is a lot more useful than the stock kits alone in the EZDrummer package. It is frustrating to not be able to play with any of the drum sounds but I guess that is why people upgrade to Superior Drummer 2.

I had relatives over for Thanksgiving and they just all left yesterday morning so I finally am able to play with a lot of this stuff. Unfortunately, I am getting grief for "disappearing" now so I am just going to have to get on all this stuff I just downloaded a little more slowly than I would have liked. I am sure a lot of the folks out there know how that goes.

I think I remembered something like this when I reinstalled a newer version from my previous version. IIRC I had to update my OS per the instructions at Toontrk

I always advise to get the Nashville expansion. It's more rock than the stock one you get, which is more of a pop kit.

I got it working. I went back to the download and instead of double clicking it, I right clicked and hit Extract All, then I was able to install EZD without a problem. I used the Repair option on the Coccktail Kit, nothing was wrong with it but since I installedit with EZD lite I figured if there was any pathway problem or anything, repair would fix it. All seems well.
You know... it did not ask me to authorize EZD, I just loaded it in a project to see if it would load and it did. I thought there was supossed to be some number to use to authorize it... maybe I should look again... arrr.
Thanks!

The Authorization window came up when I opened EZD Solo but it says it is 32bit. EZDlite Solo is 64bit but I don't remember how I got there. It will give me something else to do...

Hey Twaddle,

Couple thoughts on your post back up there somewhere.

I used to do my own loops with a Voyetra (Turtle Beach) Record Producer Midi program. Sank in about another $60 on an upgrade to Record Producer Studio. As long as you had a ROM midi set on your card, this was about as good as it got to creating precise midi loops. The quantitize function still has to be exceeded by anything I’ve used so far.. The layout and design was right where the musician needed it to be. The Record Producer series was (historic trivia) the next generation of Digital Orchestrator Pro, ahead of the times for the time.

They changed the serial number activation for an online call response authorization. The bastards are still in business but now on their website have a statement that they need to protect us from data loss and malfunction in case future operating systems evolve to a point where their software is not compatible. To protect us, they have shut down the authorization system. No more transfers, no more authorizations will be given. You buy the software and driver for the hardware cable and don’t read the fine print, you got a 15 day trial before the thing goes belly up. Screwed. It’s not just the 100 dollar loss in my case, but the black side of the authorization scheme if the company gets nasty. My passing advice, don’t buy any software from these thieves.

Twaddle gave a more balanced view of this. Toontracks probably won’t go out of business. Major players, NI, IK Multimedia, whoever the hell made Sonnivox…others… These guys will probably be there for the rest of our short lives and are proactive to help us with authorization processes.

I’ve routinely taken to the dark side and as much as possible make sure I have an underworld contingency against company dissolution. EZ Drummer was secure before the credit card burned. Too bad I couldn’t find a crack for Voyetra. Would still be able to use the program I paid for.

Twaddle, about drum loops, got to concede to the better man who can roll his own.

Peace to all of you,
John

So, I'm about to pull the trigger on BFD Eco from AudioMidi. There are two BFD Eco articles in the webshop. If I want the electronic download, do I choose the "serial no. only" version and apply it to a demo version or how does it work?

I purchased BFD Eco from AudioMidi and used the "serial number only" purchase link. I also used the AM15 coupon code to get $15 off. After about 10 hours or so I got an email from them with my serial number and a link I could use to download the code from FXpansion from. Worked fine and it is all up and running without any problems.

FWIW, I just used the Nashville kit all over a country album project. It fits everything I throw at it. Ballads, Pop, Trad Country, Country Rock, etc. I am using it in Superior Drummer so take that into account. I am very pleased and Harry Stinson, the drummer who made the library played here in Macon last week with Marty Stuart. I'm not much of a country fan but I do like the edgier stuff. Anyway, I believe you will be well pleased with that expansion pack. The brush kit is GREAT!

I am still struggling to get EZDrummer installed in the right place. I moved it to programs\cakewalk\VSTplugins, I think that was y problem. Then I went to preferences and re-scanned all VSTs.
I got an error message regarding bitbridge. I'll type in what the error box says.

There is a red circle with an "X" Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program Files\Cakewak\Shared Utilities\BitBridge.exe
R6034
An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
Please contact the allpication's support team for more information

What does this mean??

What am I doing wrong? Should I go back and delete the install and start again from the zipped file?

Also I seem to have done something wrong when registering... (this sort of thing always happens and is so frustrating because I know it is user error but I don't know what to do) anyway I got an email from Toontrack telling me this:

NOTE! You can only have 2 hardware configurations authorized at any one time. You will need to remove Computer IDs you no longer use in order to validate new hardware.

My guess is that I called my computer by a different name when I installed EZD lite... I don't remember, but it is all on the same computer. I can contact them and I don't mind doing it but I figure there is someone here who can probaby give me a short answer that I can understand without jumping through a bunch of hoops... or I can call Cakewalk support. I am not going to download BFD Eco until I figure out what I am doing wrong and understand how to add a third party VST... I just can't seem to remember what I did before.

Thanks (I feel really ignorant and I don't like it... I should be able to do this).

Heck...I am more in the dark than I thought. I can access Amplitude through the Custom Shop stand alone on the desktop, same with EZD lite and EZD... but I cannot find any of them in X1. I am doing something wrong and don't know what it is. I can find Guitar Rig, if I right clickon the FX bin in an audio track>audio FX> plugin layouts>amp/tape simulation... Guitar Rig is there. I cannt find the others anywhere, I am in worse shape than I thought.

Perhaps I should just play my guitar and write words in a tablet...

Don't move it after installation. I'm certain EzDrummer is one that does not like to be moved manually. Try and install it where you want it. Most Vsts ask you where you want it placed and you place it there. Not all like to be moved from the actual root folder it was placed in on installation.

Re:Sweetwater has EZDrummer on sale for $29 This Weekend Only....battling BFD Eco I guess. 2011/11/28 10:12:24 (permalink)
I already moved it. I will delete it and start over from the zip file... but I obviously don't knowwhat I am doing. Whe I look in my Program Files\Cakewalk\VSTplugins I see Amplitude3 there but I cannot find it in X1. I got it boxed and followed the instructions, I jst have nt used it yet and am glad I haven't, this is frustrating enough.... thanks. I will try again.

Should I extract to Program Files\Cakewalk\VSTplugins ?

zzzzzzzz.......... I am going to take a short break because I am deflated.

I'm not 64bit so someone will have to talk you through the specific folder for that. I have a cakewalk vst folder and thrid party one too. Computer Jim gave this as a reasonable Vst structure:

Sonar's 32Bit VST plugins get installed to C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\VstPlugins

Sonar's 64Bit VST plugins get installed to C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\VstPlugins

Third-party 32Bit VST plugins get installed to C:\Program Files (x86)\VstPlugins

Third-party 64Bit VST plugins get installed to C:\Program Files\VstPlugins

Thanks... I don't know what I am doing wrong. I will go back to square one and reinstall making sure to choose those folders. What baffles me is that Amplitude was installed there and I cannot find it in X1. I am sure I did something wrong, that is almost always the answer, laff... it is still extremely frustrating to me though. I appreciate the help.

Just wondering, have you created a plug in list using the plug in manager?
If so you will need to add EZdrummer to that list along with amplitude and anything else that might be missing.

Julien,

Sadly, you CANNOT move EZDrummer after it is instlled. You must declare during installation where it is to be used and it MUST stay there.

Superior Drummer on the other hand is capable of being moved.

@Twaddle  I need to read the manual, I am really ignorant about 3rd party plugins. The ones that came with X1 have given me no trouble and I've had no reason (at least I thought I had no reason) to use any plugin manager. I will use the help, that may be my problem.

@Bapu I will delete EXDrummer and reinstall in the right place (I hope). *sigh...

All the recording I have done in the past, which wasn't much, was using a DI like the POD or a mic. Only with X1 have I have the time to try and learn more and it are hard...

Thanks.

Also remember, when you get sorted, that Amplitube is classed as an Audio Fx and EzDrummer is a classed as a Synth. Even though they reside in the same Vst folder they appear in different lists inside Sonar.

Julien,
As Steve (twaddle) stated above, check in Plugin Mgr. to make sure the new VST's (Amplitube, EZ Drummer etc..) show up there (on the left column and make sure to move them to the right column.....and save!!

(If it's not showing up in Plugin Mgr., then you'll have to point out the folder where the VST's are located (possibly Program Files>Toontrack>EZ Drummer) and then do a re-scan).

Edit: Check out this veideo link on the Plugin Mgr.

Don't think that I would recommend that.  You can get away with moving the libraries but the core DLL program, I wouldn't move that manually.  You will mess up the update installers.

inaheartbeat

I purchased BFD Eco from AudioMidi and used the "serial number only" purchase link. I also used the AM15 coupon code to get $15 off. After about 10 hours or so I got an email from them with my serial number and a link I could use to download the code from FXpansion from. Worked fine and it is all up and running without any problems.

Great, thanks!
