FastBikerBoy I'm still trying to get my head round the fact that someone would prefer to be charged an extra $600 at upgrade time (or whatever pie in the sky figure one of the naysayers came up with was) for something that they may not want rather than buy the modules they do (or don't as the case may be). I don't like the optional PC modules so please make them compulsory. Eh??? Flabbergasted me. I'll admit I was also a bit surprised that when Cakewalk finally went the route of a la cart offerings, which if I recall correctly quite a few people asked for in the ability to purchase just the core product and leave synths, effects, ... as alternative purchases, seem to be some of the very people that are now most adverse to this "new" direction and some of the features that have been introduced with X1. There's a saying about being careful what you ask for because you just might get it. Just a personal observation, no more no less.

I'm pretty sure I answered "neutral" or "no thanks" to most of them. And I ticked the $10 one on how much I'd pay for something. I'm such a cheapskate. But I bet that they, in turn, will check "no thanks" to my offer to have a regular blog on their YouTube Channel. At least if they have any sense they will.

Bub FastBikerBoy Bub FastBikerBoy Am I following correctly here? The users complaining about the sale of individual PC modules would rather they were all included (compulsory) at update time and then pay one large fee then? I didn't get that at all out of anything posted so far in this thread. Did I miss something or did something get removed? From creynolds.......... That way we can pay once and be done for a year. This drip, drip witholding thing is frankly a bit distasteful. Has anyone totalled up the cost of all this new prochannel modules rubbish? Nasty direction dont like it at all. Frankly I get nothing but compulsory purchase from that, I don't know what else it could mean. Sure, I can see how you could get that out of his comment. Now that Pro Channel is here, and you have to buy every module, on top of Expanded, and on top of Producer, This is the bit I don't get - why do you HAVE to buy every single PC module? I haven't, I've bought the ones that I feel will a) fill a gap in my current setup and b) are affordable. Last time I checked, purchases were optional, not compulsory

Frankly I get nothing but compulsory purchase from that, I don't know what else it could mean. Sure, I can see how you could get that out of his comment. Sonar as far as I can tell no longer includes new VST's or Synths. Yes, a new Z3TA was released, but they changed how they sell and market Sonar, so if you want that now, you have to go even one step higher than Producer. There's no longer an all inclusive version like their used to be, and some people liked that. Actually, that's the only reason I used the Producer edition. It's been a long time since Cakewalk put out a new VST or Synth. Now that Pro Channel is here, and you have to buy every module, on top of Expanded, and on top of Producer, it's not looking good from the standpoint of someone who wants a single solution like Sonar Producer has always been. So what can't you do with the producer version of X1 that you could with the 8.5 PE? What your seeing now is, they are charging the same for Producer, the older plugs are slowly dropping off because they either don't run on newer systems, they are not going to update them to 64bit, or they just don't work right and have been forgotten, and now you have to pay more on top of the initial cost for new VST's and Synth's. X1 was the cheapest upgrade ever for me........ I'm not aware of any older plugs being dropped. Certainly none I've ever used anyway. As for paying more for new VST's and Synths aside from the shiny new toy syndrome, how many more do you actually need to make good music? At this point, if you even wanted to stay loyal to Cakewalk, you might as well buy the lowest choice of the Sonar products, save a bundle, and go get some high quality plugin's from 3rd party vendors. You'll pay about the same as going with Sonar Production Suite doing it that way, get better support for your add-on's, and full versions of your VST's.
Exactly and that's a good thing isn't it? It's a choice that a user can now make that they couldn't before. Personally I'd like to see a lot of Sonar go that way. Lots of users want a much better Staff view for example. I personally couldn't give a monkeys if they scrapped it tomorrow and there was no staff view. Wouldn't a separate development team working on a all new singing & dancing staff view available as an optional add-on to the existing staff view for those that want it be a good thing? They can have it and I don't have to buy it. Exactly like the PC modules. Win for the staff view users, win for me, and win for CW. As far as I can see that's a win all round, except I'm sure someone will complain that it's available as an extra and why isn't included in the program (including the extra cost) for those that don't want it. Bizarrre argument, but that's exactly what is being argued here about the PC modules.

All of it really, though the bit above where you simply make up things to complain about has, through sheer repetition of such shenanigans, gone from WTF to Zzz, and might well be the winner.

Well there goes another thread filled with lucid insight and the usual piggery from the usual suspects. This forum can be so good and then so ugly. Its a wonder anyone ever posts their opinions here. Dare to criticise Cakewalk or Sonar and you are immediatley jumped on for spreading your heathen filth. The truth is Sonar is fine. It aint great. It does the job OK no more. There are things I dont like about it and things I just dont use. There are things about I like so much I dont like using anything else. Inserting and routing groups for instance, that is an unbelievable pain in ProTools. But.. Prochannel (for me, just me, not you, you may love it, that's cool, calm down) is a silly backwards looking version of an SSL console with all the drawbacks of trying to turn rotary knobs on a screen with a mouse. If it was repackaged to be like the SSL Duende X-EQ and X-Comp plugins that do not deny they are software we would have the sort of interface we can all control on a screen with a mouse and see what we are doing to the shape. So stop kidding yourselves you are on a crusade, defending the honour of the fair maiden 'Sonar' of Cakewalk. Its just a bit of kit that is far from perfect and allways will be for many people. So lets stop flinging crap at anyone you dares to say that thing are not perfect. They are not. In a 5hit fight everyone gets a taste.
