"NZ? They evolved their independence. " Tis true us Kiwi's did evolve. Richard Feynman said we had the best political system in the world when he visited for a series of lectures. But we haven't yet completetly divested ouselves of our English roots. It is standard procedure for NZers to go visit England for a couple of years after Uni. I did this myself and even have a British passport. And LOTs of British people choose to emigrate to NZ. Too many in fact. We call them whinging Poms because they whine a lot and can't do anything for themselves. "You'll also note that the American 'victory' over the English was actually down to the unwillingness to commit to the defence of our tea interests in America in the light of forces looking likely to be needed to defend against a threat from the French at home. You'll also recognize, if you ever did any homework that the French navy also played the MAJOR part in what you call your 'victory'. " Classic. Reminds one of how USA did the majority of the fighting in WWII. That's about as accurate as your legal analyses JB. Stick to your knitting man :)

I don't even understand the typically half-formed comment from you at the end of that post, but I will say here I have the utmost respect and gratitude for the American servicemen that fought alongside ours during WWII and continue to act and put themselves in harms way for our common interests today. My Dad used to travel with the annual Commonwealth Parliamentary Conferences during the late '50's and '60's he even named the house we grew up in 'Tauranga' after his visit to NZ in 1965. His conclusion would have been that it wasn't that the Pom's couldn't do anything for themselves, rather that there was a lack of anything worthwhile for them to find to do... btw Good Morning JB's stalker... I kind of feel priviledged having someone take so much hateful interest in my posts. Makes me feel like I'm actually achieving something. History won't ever change fella, it will still be there when you decide to educate yourself. So take your time, having the dags sheared off the rear of your fleece may help your mood meantime, I would imagine that could get painful and may be a contributing factor to your current apparent distress.

pistolpete Jonbouy I kind of feel priviledged having someone take so much hateful interest in my posts. Makes me feel like I'm actually achieving something. Actually you aren't achieving anything. Maybe you should brush up on some accurate history. Anything I've stated need clarifying? Here ya go, here's a start. It seems to bear out what I'd already learned. http://en.wikipedia.org/w...ican_Revolutionary_War French involvement proved decisive yet expensive, ruining France's economy and driving the country into massive debt. A French naval victory in the Chesapeake led to a siege by combined French and Continental armies that forced a second British army to surrender at the Yorktown, Virginia in 1781. Fighting continued throughout 1782, while peace negotiations began. Read it all I may being asking questions later. Vive la France! Here's the point where the conflict ended and the American Declaration was finally recognised bringing about the end of hostilities. http://en.wikipedia.org/w...ty_of_Paris_%281783%29 So basically 6 years after the declaration, forced to submit under pressure from the American allies, France, Holland and Spain as well as the Americans the declaration was eventually ratified by the English in France in the Treaty of Paris 1783. Meanwhile the English started using troops to build and man a huge canal along the south coast to prevent a feared invasion force from the French which never actually materialised. I actually live alongside that canal today so I can sure verify the reality of it. Very similar to the gist of it that I already gave I reckon. Don't worry though I'd prefer the idea of a combined force of John Wayne, Audie Murphy and Chuck Norris punching us Brit's squarely in the eye and sending us packing also, but unfortunately the reality is them meddling French played a huge part in our humiliation yet again.

Well, to be more accurate, the majority of *dying* was done by the Russians... fighting... perhaps later in the war. The real fighting was done by Britain. With the defeat of the Luftwaffe in 1940, Germany had already lost the war... it just took them a few years to realize it.

Jonbouy Even now where the North East was more susceptible to Viking incursions a thousand years ago, rather than French influence you still can't understand a word that Geordie's speak even if you are 'English'.
Actually, you cant understand a word a Geordie speaks even if you are a Geordie!... thats why brown ale was developed... after three pints you slow down and become intelligible :D

I went to a party, hosted by an American, the other night and someone had managed to find Newcastle Brown by the keg, so they had it on tap. This is an annual thing that my band plays at and it is usually a poolside chill thing. This year, there was a fight. Nuff said
