h'Well now! What a whiny bunch of wee school girls we have here this fine afternoon!

I don't think there's a pair amongst the lot of ya are there lads?

My dear Danny Boy, you have the wind that would delight a sailor!

And Mr. Bapu, h'why that sounds like something my sheep O'Brian says out in the clover patch after a fine meal of corned hash and a few pints of the creature.

And Bub, my goodness gracious, a face only a mother could love. A blind one at that if you don't mind me saying son!

What a lovely bunch of sensitive young lads we have here. Keep it real lads, keep it real.

What drives me up the wall is the vomit-inducing sycophancy.

And not just the cringeworthy and misplaced loyalty to a company that, and let's be brutally honest here, exist mainly to separate them and the rest of us from our money.

It's exactly as Mike says, it exists just as much among the '+1' and the 'LMAO' mob that follow up their pathetic diatribes, and serve only to encourage them.

To use a school analogy, you could imagine the fanbois are the teacher's pets to Cakewalk's staff (the teachers) and as such, are allowed much more leeway in their behaviour. Even if they do cross the line, the authoritative words may appear strong but the actions are weak.

The toadies that follow the fanbois like sickly sheep are the unpopular kids who'll do and say anything to get in the gang - quite abhorrent really.

And I'm with Bub - talking in generic terms may be politically correct, but let's call a spade a spade...

John is, without doubt, the biggest bootlicking backslapping fanboi on the planet. I once suggested to him that if Cakewalk sent him a turd in a box and called it X2 he'd be on the forum within seconds defending it to the hilt and lying that it smelt of French perfume. He called me 'negative' so I politely explained (as I believe both JB and Bub have done recently) that Cakewalk don't need people telling them that everything in the garden is rosy, an 'Emperor's new clothes' syndrome if you like, but honest feedback. I said I was wasn't being negative, I was being realistic - big difference I'm sure you'd agree.

And the other prefect - John T (who I postulate has recently usurped John as head boy), has got to be the most odious, execrable, hypocritical and sanctimonious creep I've ever had the mispleasure to encounter. How someone can, when they've lost an argument, stoop so low as to say they hope their adversary would "die in a fire" is quite beyond my understanding. And there have been many other examples - all conveniently ignored by the powers that be.

It's a disgrace.

You know Strammy...you just reminded me of one of my favorite movies(Sydney Lumet's The Hill).  I was reminded of how Ian Hendry's Staff Sgt. Williams overtakes and usurps Harry Andrews R.S.M. Bert Wilson's position as who's really in charge of the camp come the end of the movie.  A very apt comparison.

Pretty much agree w/ Danny. This place is where I come to socialize - I do get the opportunity to meet plenty of cool people working in the business out there, but even among them, I'm some sort of misfit. It's like music and gear aren't the only thing in their life, can you believe it? lol

Being stuck (happily) in a suite doing nothing but working on music and studying, that's pretty much like the only thing I have an interest left for discussing outside of the private stuff I share w/ my fiancée. And life is perfect this way.

I avoided the CH for the longest time, due to my experiences w/ its previous incarnation, back in the days when it was all politics and religion. Not really the ideal place to relax at the end of the day for a lifelong student of the work of Nietzsche. ;)

Since I somehow jumped ship for my current portable rig, and due to my own doubts in regards to Cakewalk's new direction and the future of Sonar, I tend to feel like a guest on a special limited permission on these boards, even if I've been around for ages. Which somehow lead me to hang out more here and on the other sub forums. And considering what goes on upstairs, I'm glad it turned out this way.

Re:Think before you post. 2011/09/22 19:08:27 (permalink)
Ok I will admit to being a bit of trouble and going off half cocked but in my defense I didn't know that there was any protocol when it comes to forums plus I never hid my personality or my face or who I was.  Yes I went under a moniker for a while but I always had where I lived and my real face up as an avatar.

I think Danny brought up some interesting points, that text on screen can be anonymous and that text on screen should not be taken seriously or that is what some posters believe, not Danny.  I admit once again that when I first came here I thought like that but I didn't realize that there was any kind of protocol and this is how I conduct myself in real life (yes I do have "real" friends), I have always been a bit of a dichotomy.  On the one hand I love the thrill of the fight and going into battle for the under dog, I mean I got banned 5 times for telling the Cake they got it wrong with x1 and this was something and still is something I believe (I've moved on now) but on the other hand I've can be generous with my time and any knowledge I may have, yes I can prove that I have a letter of recommendation from one of my audio teachers saying just that, it's on official school paper, if needed I can upload for all to see.

My point is that whilst I agree with Mike sometimes the more experienced forum heads can be a little judgemental and can actually inflame the situation, for instance:

Danny and I got into a conversation about virtuoso's and what constitutes as one, I put myself forward, partially as a joke and partially I believe in myself (something that is lacking in the world I believe, someone suggested it was actually a lack of self confidence but I don't fit into any box like that) Danny just ripped into me and said at the very end that I would probably do the same.  I thought about it and went NO, I had learned my lesson and now realized that this forum was actually a very important community (I learnt this actually a months ago, when I realized how rude it was to post music and not listen to other's at the same time) so rather than ripping into Danny I put forth an explanation and tried to hear what Danny heard.  Danny and I come from different schools, so I don't think Danny would ever agree to my virtuoso statement (I've figured out what the problem is, we all were getting prodigy's and virtuosos mixed up, JMO).

So my suggestion is to counter some of the "trolls" rather than going off half cocked invite them in, you might be surprised, if they continue to act like "trolls" then as a community we can deal with them.

By the way who is the "troll" who is pretending to be an Irishman? am I missing something?  Look whoever you are, either join in, in the spirit of these forums and become an active participant or you will find out why I am misunderstood and that goes for JohnT as well, I don't have a problem with you John but to come down here and participate in a thread about how much better we should treat each other and to dis it shows how small and juvenile you are (that is a small taste of the verbosity that I can throw at you, I can insult you with out using profanities all I need to do is point out the obvious)

Peace, sorry Mike I haven't got anything to plug at the moment. Ben

Bub: I kept it generic because I can feel where Mike is coming from and wanted to share my own experience without naming names. The reason for that...we really don't have to name names do we? We all pretty much know who causes trouble around here ALL the time. It's the same ones all the time. Also, though I respect where you were coming from, I don't think it was quite fair to do an analysis on my character for speaking my mind or mention what *I* may need to do. Yes I know my flaws and how serious I take things...but that would be like me telling you "well, you really need to alter the way you handle yourself on the forum". I'd be out of line in telling you that because you have your own beliefs as to how you feel you should act, know what I mean?

I didn't name anyone or bring up any past scenarios to imply I was speaking about anyone in particular. I just stated what is blatantly obvious to me and I'm sure many others on the forum. I'm not the problem around here other than my long-winded and from-the-heart posts. :) If something is worthy of discussion amongst a group where we all share at least some of the same feelings, it's proof something needs to be done about it from those that either start the trouble, or the mods that are supposed to end the trouble or nip it before it starts. That's all I was getting at....and I seem to see a pattern with these particular individuals where I don't see it with people that are liked and respected. Like, for example...and I beg those that I use here to forgive me, but you're in the "highly respected group".

You'd never see Jim Roseberry, bitflipper, brundlefly, lornie b, Jose, Jeff Evans, yorolpal (to name a few off the top of my head...there are several) and 90% of the REAL coffee house people etc etc lash out at someone in a rude way unless they were joking around. You also see patience with these individuals when they try to help someone, passion within their posts and they never bash the brains out of a n00b. They'll go to the ends of the earth to help, reproduce something, share tips and they always keep their composure unless backed into a corner or annihilated by someone with a bug up their @ss that may push them over the edge.

If you look at the trouble makers...they don't have any of the people skills these guys do, they just want to be intimidating and tell you to read the manual, make you feel like an idiot for not being as savvy as they might be, and most of them have never shared a tune to show if they really can get good results out of Sonar to talk the way they talk. Am I wrong/alone/out of my tree for noticing this? I'm not trying to be confrontational with you or anyone else...honest, but this is what I see blatantly in my face all the time.

Ah Mickey I'll agree with you on the sailor thing....but "a pair" I definitely have. :)

JohnT: I don't know if you were insinuating that everyone involved in this thread fits your description, but for what it's worth, I've never had a problem with you....you've always been helpful to me...but I gotta tell you...though I know you could care less about making friends around here....you can be really harsh at times man. Like overly harsh to where sometimes it's not a pleasant read. I know you don't care and will probably go off on me after this (which I hope you don't)....but it's obvious you can be an extremely helpful dude around here and have been numerous times. I just wish your delivery was a bit better in some scenarios. Don't get me wrong, I don't think anyone should sugar coat, but it really goes a long way when/if we can all show a little compassion whenever possible brother.

Honest that's not meant to be character assassination. I'm giving you props as someone that has been helpful to me and others...but sometimes, you come off really harsh where I find myself saying "wow, was that really necessary?" Then again, maybe it's me misunderstanding. It's kinda like with me being a Yank, at times I still don't totally understand the brutal honesty Brits have at times. The other side of the coin is...though Brits are brutally honest, they often times show compassion in the same paragraph within that honesty, so I do understand the majority.

At any rate, I sincerely feel this is a good discussion. Hopefully something good will come out of it. Who knows...maybe we'll make a few friends from it without getting nasty and bashing each other. That's what I hope for sincerely. I don't want to see anyone banned, hated, ganged up on or thrown to the side. There's nothing better than strength in numbers and the power of a group hug when differences are settled. :)

Well Mike.... I always try to be myself and frankly, it is a full time job. Sometimes I wish I could be someone else, maybe for a while. I think it would be refreshing. You know, the older you get, the more you realize just how screwed up you are (if you're honest with yourself).
I try to not be hurtful and if I have I apolgize. If I missed the whole point then ya'll can lauhat me and I'll laugh too. ;-)

You know what they say:

"Great people talk about ideas. Average people talk about things or events. Small people talk about other people."

This is a quote from an unknown source I believe but it is true. I try and be positive at all times. You cannot go wrong with positivity really. It beats all. Rather than say something negative about something one can always suggest a better way and be positive about it.

Great, thinking "idea" people can be some of the biggest a-holes that ever lived.  Great quotes are just that...great quotes.  There is a difference.  And it is a chasm bigger than the Grand Canyon.  You are probably a heartfelt, positive and giving person Jeff.  But you're not doing yourself any favors by seriously adhering to or espousing those sort of "rainbow and lollipop" homilies.  Honest, ol pal.
