I'm going to check out the android app - over 1,000,000 downloads.  And check out the community aspect.  Just hanging out for the culture shock of Sonar and it's users with the Bandlab users is going to be worth it.

If Soundcloud blows through their money they got last year I could see BandLab absorbing it.  I think 1/2 of the Soundcloud money was a Singapore investment group.

It's all fun and games till the startup cash runs out!

Hey Paulo, promidi,

Just to clarify this point quickly - these T&Cs are purely to allow BandLab as a service to actually function - i.e. we need a license for BandLab as a service to playback your own song to you, or anyone else you share it with. If you read any other social platform's T&Cs, like SoundCloud, Facebook etc - you'll find exactly the same thing.

e.g Instagram:

Instagram does not claim ownership of any Content that you post on or through the Service. Instead, you hereby grant to Instagram a non-exclusive, fully paid and royalty-free, transferable, sub-licensable, worldwide license to use the Content that you post on or through the Service

I absolutely agree it could be clearer as to its intentions, and the point is taken - we will be working with our legal team to ensure it is not misleading and looking like we are trying to grab other people's rights - this is something we fundamentally don't believe in :-)

Thank you everyone else who has checked out the platform, we'll have some better introduction videos for people transitioning from other professional DAWs at some point (especially checking out BandLab from Cakewalk) - but the general gist of it is that people who have a professional desktop DAW tend to use BandLab as an ideation tool, or for the social aspects, more so than as a replacement for their core workflow :-)

i.e record an idea on the phone, open it straight away via browser and export stems into DAW of choice

I suspected as much. But it would be great if the T&C would be worded more clear. So laymen like me also understand what we sign up for.

I agree 100%. We used to have a side-by-side explanatory version but it might have gotten unlinked somewhere when we moved the location of the Terms of Use. The community team will get on this...

https://www.bandlab.com/p...e811-80c3-00155d60d108

I just checked you out on Bandlab, trying to get a feel for the site to see how and what is going on there.
I tried leaving a response but as soon as I hit the "enter key" to start a new paragraph it automatically posted.
I'm not sure how things works there on Bandlab, but from what I see so far (through the ears and eyes of an 18+ year collaboration veteran and Citizen of ACIDplanet), Bandlab might just be what we all hoped and wished AP would grow into one day.
Unfortunately the new owners of Sony Creative Software are seemingly trying to kill off Sony Creative Software by seriously neglecting and ignoring website maintenance.
Yeah I know that sounds crazy or paranoid, but I eventually threw my hands up and gave up trying to find out how much and upgrade for the latest version of Vegas Pro would cost, never mind getting a link to even download it,
and the very few Windows based web browsers only, that even allow streaming music from ACIDplanet warn everyone it's a DANGEROUS WEBSITE to stay away from it and enter at your own risk.

Over the years I've met and still network and collaborate with dozens of artists from all over the world who I believe will be very happy and interested in a website based on collaboration.

And so Peter.......... Is there a way to download a multi track version of your song post for collaboration for remixing and or adding or replacing, and or working on existing vocals to get the party started?

Its the same terms you agree to any other hosting site.
It doesn't mean Bandlab is going to steal your music it simply means they "possibly" might use it for promotional services.
Anyone else here against having your music shown to 1000's of people ?
It may be the one thing that gives your music a chance, unless of course you have a better option.

FYI- Read the terms for Soundcloud. No difference.

Yeah, some people overthink the "somebody might steal my song thing". If you are super concerned, remember that traditional copyright steps still exist and are now easier being that it's digital submission and you can cover a bunch of songs in one filing (30 bucks or so) .

Have not yet gone to Bandlab, yet.  Never a fan of giving away any rights to my music (such as HitRecordJoe, etc.), but I'll give it a look.

I do want to shout out to a Reddit site /r/bedroombands

It's a low stress collaborative place.  Also on Reddit there's MITM (r/MusicInTheMaking).

My preference so far is /r/bedroombands (mainly due to the responsiveness of the musicians and the site mod is cool.) again, super low key

Giving rights to play, share, and collaborate with your music is NOT giving away copyrights license.
 It's increased exposure.
The only person who can rip your profits off is yourself by not properly publishing your music with the proper digital rights registration assigning "Bar Codes" for your albums and "Media Catalog Number" for your songs, and copyright management.
There are many very inexpensive and reputable services available that will properly register, track, and collect all monies paid, including streaming you don't even know existed and even distribute your music all across the internet and retail outlets with a surprisingly low investment on your part. All of the services can be found with a little research starting now a simple Google search.
With a little research, a lot of work mixed evenly with creativity directed in the right places, you can even learn how to make money giving your music away uploading to YouTube.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate it. I didn't mean to derail the thread though. Clint, I may be wrong, but I believe the only way somebody can change your songs is if you enable "forking", or if you invite someone to collaborate on it. I would love Meng to chime in and clarify, but that's the way I read it.

I also wanted to say that I find Bandlab a LOT easier to work with than Soundcloud.
