My personal opinion was that moderator account should either be anon or a members mod status be hidden due to the perceived "favouritism" argument.

That was a long time ago, and I made the county team!

I prefer rifles now,  less energetic.

but much deadlier at long distances!

I could never throw my rifle 50 yards,  you're quite safe.

I guess in future I'll have to be a bit more careful what I say to my "friends", both in here and in private. Old Bill's never off duty as they say.

Still, I'll accept it all in good faith. I mean to say, all of the new moderators forum hosts are whiter than white, so to speak. None of them have multiple log-ins, none of them start meaningless and pointless threads, and none of them post one-word, or one-"" replies... do they? All infractions of the TOS as far as I can remember.

And don't get me started on the FSF. That's little more than an embarrassing wart stinking up the whole site. A joke that was once funny and possibly amusing. About a thousand mind-numbingly boring, pathetic pages ago. At least our new moderators forum hosts are surely going to close that down, or at least set an example to the rest of us plebs by refusing to post in it?

We haven't even rolled out the concept of "forum hosts" yet. The only reason we commented in this thread is because some people have already discovered that some users were showing up as moderators (which they are not). The forum software does a poor job of explaining what someone can and cannot do. We'll be explaining it in more detail soon.

I think it would be fair to let us roll this out before jumping to conclusions on how this is going to work.

Whatever.

It already feels divisive, but if that's what you're after, I'll accept it.

At the very least, anyone who is chosen for such a position should have remained totally anonymous, and that anonymity should be part of the acceptance of the job.

Otherwise, it's going to appear that some are "more equal than others".

I'm already seriously considering what I can and cannot say in private to some on the list, guys and guys I have known for years and consider true friends.

You can tell me that I have no reason to think like that, but I do - and that's what matters.

But, as you say, you guys haven't decided how this is going to roll out, so we'll have to wait and see.

I completely disagree about people who want to help our community being anonymous. We're not robots and even they too should be held to the same standards.

If you're concerned about privacy you shouldn't be. These new roles are not administrator roles. They are roles that have an additional but limited tool set to forums we haven't even rolled out yet. As of this exact moment, nothing has changed other then a single graphic below certain people's names.

We haven't even fully discussed who is and won't be forum hosts. We haven't even reached out to everyone that might be interested. Nobody has committed to anything yet. We're simply discussing things.

This thread is still very premature. I just want to stop any rumors from starting before we've even had a full 24 hours to discuss anything.

I can see this thread went sour quickly.

Steve,
There was nothing official in my eye rolling smiley post.  As I said above, even those who are currently on a committee for forum changes and are called "forum hosts" have NO POWER in these forums at this time and might not even be chosen for the new format as a forum host at that time.  there is no commitment from any of us or cake except to discuss the future of the forum on a committee.

and for the record, I have not reported anything today by you or anyone else.

if you feel you have to act differently around me, then that's your problem, not mine.  I'm the same person I was yesterday.  You may not feel that's true, but, oh well.  that's the way I see it.

If you feel it's unfair if I simply post a smiley or one word response because of the TOS, then feel free to report me for doing so.  at this point I think I'm following the spirit of the TOS, but if you disagree, that's you're choice and you're free to report me for it.

I will still consider you the same internet friend I did before today.

Eh? What, the Adrian Chiles one?

Yup.

The real mod said it was inappropriate to display a dildo as my avatar....

I wouldn't have thought the Americans would be that familiar with Mr Chiles

I am not familiar with the reference.

This has nothing to do with my views, or American views and everything to do with the fact that his is not appropriate on the Cakewalk forums. You could have least given me the courtesy of a response to my private message considering I did this for you. People were reporting your avatar as offense, I let you know this was the case and removed it as such. That's all. I think I was being pretty nice all things considered.

Well, it all depends on whether that is a 'friendly'  or an 'official'

I don't know anymore.

So hell no, I got nothing to worry about.

Steve, the new forum hosts aren't being employed, they are being rewarded. We picked the initial group because of their overall positive history and proactive communication with us for keeping the forum civil. Maybe that makes some people more equal than others, but it's only because of their performance and consistency. Should you believe that you're up to the standard, we'd love to have you come on board and help.

Also, head over to the Roberts Space Industries forums and you'll see that they have company and community moderators, with power far beyond what we will be bestowing. There's no need for anonymity there and their user base is far more volatile, larger, and outspoken than ours. Community moderation works in the majority of cases.

Here's a good rule of thumb. If you think what you're going to say to *any* user on this forum, either publicly or privately is objectionable or may constitute moderation intervention, you shouldn't voice it on the Cakewalk Forums. Period.

Best Regards,
Seth

I am sure power can corrupt, BUT weren't we looking for"forum hosts"  to help clean house when the spammers hit us?
If it gets untenable for me  then I  can leave , that would be my choice.

I'd like to report myself for not having consumed my own weight in pizza today. I mean, what's up with that?

I don't know what this has to do with forum hosting in moderation, but I'd like for someone to do something about that. Preferably, with lots of pepperoni, that is.

Exactly.

Assuming that the person on the other end is objective and impartial and does not misconstrue what you say because of their personal bias, that is. But that never happens...
