Paul, Firstly I haven't had any mails from you for months. Maybe my ISP is blocking you. If I don't answer your points here mail matt@amguk.co.uk AND matt@amguk.demon.co.uk and one at least should get through. It is also possible you called me a twat or something in a mail and I blocked your mails of course... ;-) OK. To your points: 1. We don't have a set policy on number of authorisations. Each application is judged on it's merits. I had one unlucky Japanese guy who was literally struck by lightning and needed 3 in a week for example. We have a large installed user base so we know what is normal or average from this. 4 in two years is quite a lot above average but not beyond the pail. 2. We have hundreds if not thousands of happy users. Assuming there's not another whose e-mails are bouncing around or they're posting somewhere no one has referred me to - you're the only one with an 'issue'. The simple fact (I believe I recall) is that you took your third authorisation explicitly against my advice as I knew that simply would not work. If you'd had the sense to realise we know more about how our software works than you do then you would at least be complaining about not having your third rather than 4th. But of course by your admission, having had it, that wouldn't have been a problem. As it is the 4th also isn't a problem. 3. All software developers who use this sort of CP have limits. They don't announce them but if you push them far enough you hit a wall. That's the way it is and unfortunate and unfair, etc. we all know. It 's a pain for all the people involved who are honest. It's a shame but it's a fact of life. 4. The software is very SIMPLE and VERY STABLE. It doesn't officially support Vista though. Maybe you need to update to 1.06 if you had problems with it although I think this is more you making something of nothing than anything. There's simply no record of any serious problems although you get the odd bug come up of course, these are usually solved very quickly. It's a non-issue. 5. I think you bought many AMG products over many years and I seem to recall we even had some direct communications and you seemed very happy. With KAB you seem to have revealed an attitude where your opinion of your knowledge on the subject outweighed ours' and when it did not it has ended up creating a problem for you that would never have arisen had you simply listened. Software only works within certain criteria and when you start twisting these criteria around and try to do things that officially it won't do then you're wise to listen to those that may know better. Especially when you then want to blame everyone else for the problem you created afterwards and crusade against them. 6. Your comments about KAB itself are obviously coloured by your 'issue' - created by you, extended maybe by failed communications but not in reality an issue if you need a 4th auth on a supported format. You can have the 4th although I wonder a bit why you even bother if KAB is so bad? ;-) The fact is it's the absolute best of it's type and you're just making these remarks out of spite IMHO. Hopefully that puts things into their correct context rather than your rather unique take on things. Zap in that license application (from a supported system), ask for an update for 1.06 if need be and I'll zap you a license for this crappy, buggy software you hate so much. Hopefully then you'll be a happy camper. ;-) Cheers - Matt 8) It would be funny if it wasn't so laughable. Firstly, there is no reply in my email box, just this on the forum, in the same tone of voice that I've been receiving from this person in private emails. This time the old 'dog ate my emails' excuse is being wheeled out. Rubbish. I even made an authorisation request via the AMG website so perhaps his ISP is blocking that too. Neither have I ever been abusive, so the sly wink slur is simply well out of order. Quick answers to Wilkinson's numbered points above 1) Yes, there are limits on KAB authorisation. Here's an excerpt from Matt's email of 21st Oct 07 You say you'd like another authorisation in a couple of weeks. Not possible. You've already had two, this is the third, OK but we'd have to stipulate you didn't have another for a good while - more like two years rather than two weeks - before issuing it. and this one 22 Oct It's simply a matter of having to draw lines somewhere. We can't give out licenses every two weeks. You've had KAB a good while and are certainly entitled to have another (third) authorisation now. 2) My third authorisation was for an XP32 system. I specifically am requesting the fourth for my total replacement X64 system. Mr Wilkinson is aware of this. 3) All software developers may have limits, but they do not deal with the issue by ignoring customers' emails 4) I haven't had a chance to try the software on vista. I can't get it authorised. Someone is not paying attention 5) This is the only AMG product I have ever bought, or ever will. The problem is not my creation. It's the fault of a recalcitrant control freak developer who is content to break his own EULA and piss off a legit customer so badly that the user resorts to starting this thread (something I've never done before) 6) Matt has my email address. He can reply to me directly as he already has my machine ID. I sent it via email and through the AMG website in January. Gentlemen, you can see what's happening here. Please feel free to draw your own conclusions.

Intent is also important when using words and in understanding what someone is saying. I don't think Paul was trying to appeal to those in MA. In England it is used all the time to mean an idiot. I knew what he meant. If you had doubts then Matt surely cleared them up for you.

That's all I have to add right now. This thread is fantastic.

Don't think you have the word 'twat' in MA, but here it's offensive slang for vagina. When I was a kid, I understood that it meant "pregnant goldfish". Now I am an adult (of sorts), I understand that it means "uncool, clumsy, awkward or difficult person". I have rarely heard the word used to describe genitalia of any gender. But who am I to know what it means in Singapore.

My name is David Waugh, and I'm the Managing Director of Muon Software Ltd. AMG's Kick Ass Brass is based on our Tachyon virtual sampler engine, and I'm the main programmer behind it. I have to say that I'm really quite dismayed and upset to by these threads surfacing on various audio forums today, and although I'm not able to speak for Matt personally there are a few things I'd like to clear up. With regards to the copy protection, I'd like to make to clear that the system is designed to withstand typical computer upgrade scenarios. The machine ID fingerprint is generated in such a way that you can change your CPU, motherboard, RAM, network card, soundcard without triggering a reauthorisation scenario. Furthermore, the machine ID fingerprint is tolerant to OS installs, upgrades and reinstalls - in most cases a reauthorisation wouldn't be necessary. I don't know the full story of Paul's upgrade path so I can't really comment further, except to say in the vast majority of upgrade scenarios reauthorisation is not necessary. I should also mention that I personally handle all of the authorisation requests that come in via AMG's website in realtime. I don't recall seeing a request from Paul recently, but since I'm not in front of my usual computer I don't have access to the full database so I will refrain from commenting further. Paul, if you want another authorisation simply register via the link in KAB and I will issue a license for you as Matt has indicated he has no problem with giving you another authorisation. The situation with Windows Vista is as follows: at the moment, the KAB installer is compatible with Windows XP only and is not compatible with any flavour of Windows Vista. As far as I can tell, without resorting to manually copying the plugin DLL file from one partition or disk to another, installation under Windows Vista is simply not possible. We do believe however that the actual plugin will work correctly in any edition of Windows Vista, even the 64-bit edition (but *providing* that the host is capable of loading a 32-bit plugin as we do not ship a 64-bit compatible version right now). With regards to stability at low latencies. I haven't received any second-line support requests on this issue, but we are in the process of finishing off the next version of KAB - if there is any particular host/OS/latency scenarios that cause instability I would very much appreciate to know as soon as possible. Feel free to PM me for contact details. Finally, I would just like to say that I believe that this situation has arisen due to a breakdown in communication. In my own work I'm often frustrated by problems with emails not getting through and with the scale of the spam problem these days there really is nothing better than to pick up the phone when you want to be sure of getting things sorted out. I can't condone "forum flaming" as a way to get things done, but you can be assured you have my full attention, I'm happy to help and I hope you will withdraw your negative comments in due course. Kind regards Dave Waugh Muon Software Ltd

Anyway, I proudly walked home and sat at the dinner table, my shirt proudly displaying the message: "LET'S GET OUT THERE AND TWAT IT!!!" I still remember the awkward silence around the dinner table, my Dad quietly explaining to me later what the word meant and suggesting I buy another T-Shirt...

Dave while I appreciate your response, it has nothing to do with Goldfish, Dr Strangelove or TWIT/TWAT/TWOT. However, it does seem to deal with the OP's thread, which people like me made silly. I am in the camp that these issues should be handled off line. Here is me in my camp.
