That's a bummer cecelius2.  I've bought from WU many times and they're good guys - very communicative, great support, etc.  I would guess that it was an honest mistake resulting from being overwhelmed by this sale.

BTW, does anybody here have the One-Knob series?  I've always sorta liked the idea of these simple little tools and for the price ($38 at AD!), I think I might go for it.

I find them useful as last stage track tweakers when mixing.  If something needs a skosh more something they are tres easy to use. At $38...they're worth it.

Thanks yorolpal!  Bought!  I'm sure I'll get a lot of use out of these, especially for getting quick mixes and scratch tracks together.

I've picked up Element as well but Sonar doesn't seem to like it much.  I've had several "Sonar.exe has stopped working and must close" crashes on either instantiation or closing a project after instantiation.  Everything else working hunky dory.

Re: Waves one day sale + voucher 2013/06/28 19:16:48 (permalink)
I had those types of problems with all my waves plugs back in January 13. I worked with Waves and Cake tech support and the Cake guy finally realized that the Waves installation had installed a duplicate version of a Microsoft C++ library but it was a different version number and things were getting confused which one to use.  I had to uninstall the C++ libraries and re-install new versions for both x86 and x64. That solved all of my waves issues.

I just received my new Waves plugs and wanted everything to be at the same V9r12 so I uninstalled my waves then ran the new installer and selected all the plugs I own. Sure enough, it also installed a couple of different versions of the same C++ libraries that are already on my machine. From what I can see it only affected the 2005 Redistributable s.

I am going to have to go back and review the email that the Cake guy sent me to resolve the problem and then see if I can get things here working again.  For grins, You may want to take a look in Control Panel/Programs and Features to see if you have any duplicates that have different version numbers. i.e.  2 entries for the: Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (X64)

Kind regards,
Rck

Yep, that fixed my crash problems. I uninstalled the one duplicate Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (X64) and everything works fine now.

Hope you get yours sorted.

I have 14 C++ libraries on my computer. Multiple versions of every one. How do you know which version to save? If this is a possible cause of Sonar hiccups (or plug problems) you think Cakewalk would have put up a sticky some place.

I hope it is ok to post this excerpt from the email I received from Cakes Tech Support. If not, Its' been nice knowing you all but here is what they sent me:

"Thank you for contacting Cakewalk Technical Support. You will see a recap of our phone conversation below. If you have another support question please visit http://www.cakewalk.com/support/contact/ts.aspx or call 617-423-9021.
Thank you for choosing Cakewalk!

Problem/Questions: When inserting any of the Waves plug-ins into SONAR X2a, there is a white screen and a crash.

Solutions: According to your dump files, mfc100u.dll was where the problem was.
Typically when a lot of C++ components are crashing, I usually recommend people try installing their Microsoft C++ Redistributable Libraries. Many third-party applications will install these so sometimes the libraries can get skewed as multiple versions exist on the same computer. This may be why things are running smooth on one computer but not another. It might not be SONAR at all, but more so the C++ libraries. Here's what I would do:

Go to Start > All Programs > Programs and Features and to uninstall any Microsoft C++ Redistributable Packages listed. Afterwards, I would re-download these packages directly from Microsoft and re-install them. I have listed the most common Redistributable packages below. If you’re on a 32-bit operating system, I'd get the first three. If you’re on a 64-bit operating system, the second three. If you run both 32-bit and 64-bit SONAR on a 64-bit operating system, install them all.

For 32-bit operating systems or 32-bit programs on 64-bit operating systems:

I can't guarantee that the above links are still good.

On my system I have both x86 and x64 for the 2005, 2008, and 2010 plus I have a 2012 x64. The important thing is that you do not have two of the same pacakge with different version numbers. After the waves install I had two of the 2005 x64 with different version numbers. I just un-installed the oldest version and I'm working now.

Well I've got a boatload of those x86 and 64 bit Microsoft redistrib...thingys.  I tried uninstalling a duplicate 64 bit but it didn't change anything.  I'm kinda leery of uninstalling the whole lot and then reinstalling some new ones.  I'm a sissy.  Sigh.

Yorolpal,

Give the Cake Tech support a call and see if they will look at your dump files. (Sonar dump files... ;)

They can tell you if that is the possible issue and lead you through the process. The Waves guys really tried to help me out but they had no way of interpreting the dump file to make the diagnosis.

Really hope you get it sorted as I know how frustrating it can be.

Kind regards,
Rick

This is great news. The time I spent with waves they were looking for remnants of old installs. Nobody ever got to the C++ issue with me. I may end up with V9 64 bit waves yet.

Re: Waves one day sale + voucher 2013/06/29 02:21:24 (permalink)
Well Fellas, I feel like a gear slut!

When I first got the Waves coupon for $50.00, I ignored it, thinking, "I have enough plugins - in fact more than enough."

But, like any true junkie, I was drawn back & reading on here last night, and before you know it, lo & behold, I have now used the $50.00 coupon 7 - yup - count 'em - *7* times between last night & this morning.

The most I paid was 44.10 each for 2 or 3 Waves plugs, but it was like $26.xx and even $17.xx for some other Waves ones with the 2 discounts.

So basically I saved 7 x $50 = $350.00, and got some screamin' deals.

Got all my license codes already, so it's all good - except for the inevitable guilt trip of violating the 'use for one purchase only' clause that seemed all too easy to ignore.

I'm so ashamed - like street whore who has many Suitors - I'm now an official gear slut times 7!
I ought to keep my legs, uh, I mean wallet shut!

So that's it now! I'm done!

No more sales -

- until the next one

Great call on the reusable coupon wheeze. I picked up Aphex and Element. For some reason though I've had trouble getting Element to be recognized as a VSTi in Sonar. No amount of scanning would pick it up, and I also tried the Waves installer repair function. Eventually, I figured out that if I add the Waves folder (not the one that contains the Waves Shell DLL) to my path list, it will list "WaveShell-VST" in my VSTi list, and if I select that it loads Element. Have no idea what's going on there, and to be honest I'm not happy about having to get to it like this, but at least it works. Why is Waves stuff so damn complicated and problem-ridden when you install it.

It's not, it's a problem with Sonar and I went through the same thing with Element and One Knob series. Pro Tools, Studio One, Logic, Live, and VEP all recognize them without problem on my systems. Only Sonar makes it a PITA to recognize them.

My X2a recognizes Element just fine, and it plays and loads presets just fine...BUT...should I try to delete it from my project or just close the project I get the "Sonar.exe has experienced a problem and must close" crash dialog.  Every dang time.  I'm talkin to the waves fellers about it and in fact, they've just asked me do something very interesting....

Maybe not in the same league as some of the big boys, but very usable, and for $5 an absolute steal!!

I haven't bought Element, but I'd like to say for the record that I haven't had any issues with any Waves plugs showing up or opening in Sonar X1 or X2.

[I have about 15 of them, not including my 7 new ones.]

Maybe I just got lucky!

I have at least 50 Waves Plugins....and they all work just fine in ALL
my DAW's.....

X2 had problems when it first appeared with Waves Plugins....but I found a work around, and the problem was fixed by X2a...

Other then that...no problems with Waves whatsoever....in ANY of my DAW's....and I use 5 DAW's all the time...

How does the Kramer MPX compare to others like Reelbus or Ferric? I'm tempted by it and the One knob bundle.

Kramer MPX is good.  A few years ago it was one of the two reel/tape programs that were the all the rage, the "standards" so to speak; the other was UAD Studer.  I like MPX and it gives a realistic, warm tape saturation; of course it has several different tape speeds and wow and flutter etc.  Then Nomad Factory came out with Magnetic (and Magnetic II) and it was all the rave.  Then TB came out with their very affordable ReelBus.  To be honest, I now use Magnetic and ReelBus more than Kramer MPX, not for any rational reason, just because I like their sound.  I have Ferric, but I never use it only because I have the others and they work for me.

I honestly don't regret getting MPX, and right now is the time to get it while it is on sale.  I hope others will chime in and perhaps give more rational info on MPX.  [Edit:  I just checked and saw what the price was on AudioDeluxe with the $50 discount.  WOW.  For this price, I would go on an get it; it is certainly worth grabbing it if you are ever considering getting it.  I have never seen it for this price (counting in the discount).]]

WOW.....$44.10???  That is absolutely the lowest I've seen...

It's a great plugin.... a little heavy on CPU..but still great...with some really nice presets
and lots of flexibility...

For that price....WOW..that's all I have to say...

I too have the same crash issues as everyone.  Plus I bought the RS56 eq.  It installed fine, Sonar scanned it.  Yet when I try to open the GUI, it doesn't work.  Not sure if that is related to this.

Hi munmun,

The safe thing to do would be to contact Cake Support and let them help you out as they sorted it for me by diagnosing the dump file created by Sonar.

The other option is to ensure you have a good image of the system drive and then follow the instructions above to the letter. I would make note of the current versions you have installed because you may also need the 2012 package which can also be found on the Microsoft site.

Wish I could help more but I would not want to lead anyone down the wrong path.

Kind regards,
Rick
