Karyn

I wrote me first tune when I was 15.   It got performed once by a friend's band but never recorded.

I decided it was about time I recorded something with the Vox I spent so long restoring, so "Play the game" has been dug out from the dark recesses of my head. I can even remember the words.

You wrote this Queen song?

Apparently they did not tell you they recorded it. Buggers.

Does "Play'ing the Game"  count?

I haven't heard Karyn's song yet

An attractive woman running through the woods works, too.

I did that ... but she was walking, and it made it look sexier, I guess and her long hair flowed in the wind ... perfect morning for it, too!

I called the film "Black Nails" ... and it was a project I did at UCSB, that I did not have a chance to finish as I was really sick in bed for a week during that final week of the class, when I would have cut and spliced the film. It's washed out now, but I will see if I can get NWFilm folks to transfer that to mp4 or something, so I can maybe work it again.

The lady had very long fhair and it flowed out becautifully, and she was tall ... and in the wind with what looked like a nightgown (white dress actually) ... in the distance, coming out of the dark woods ... and into the "park" or "light" ... comes the start of the Kevin Ayers piece "Once I Awakened" and it's words were "literal" in the visuals. She walks up her "boyfriend" and the wind is blowing harder behind their faces, and when he screams "get out of my dream" ... she disappears ... and here I did a 360 to try and "find her" and she wasn't there, and then the camera moved up to the sky where I planeed on closing the shot, and an airplane is in the distance going up up and away ... and I kept it and then decided to keep it to the end of the music.

There was a quick drum "shot" break in it, and I used my friend Tom Payne at the time to do that, and super-imposed it on the film, and yeah ... this was my first "music video".

The sad end of it all? Ray Manzarek did not even want to see the movie to allow me to use the Jim Morrison scream at the end, that said ... "has this dream stopped?" ...

I have not yet, transformed this into a video format, but I have seen the film and it has washed out and I am not sure that I can correct or fix it ... but I would like to get it out ... as a nice example of what I can do. The hard part is that the "lyrics" have to light it up for me, which kinda means that me doing a video for someone and invent an idea off ... whatever ... is not something that I can do very well. I can "flow" with "what is here and now" ... and that is when I film the best ... I may have an idea along the way, but generally, something else is there that is even more useful to the whole thing ... and this is one of the reasons why I say that a visualist with a band would also help the music ... despite what many say here!

As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!

In all seriousness, Cactus, I just had the very same experience.  Literally.  You will be amazed how the presence you wrote about fills the room when you most need it.  It's a beautiful thing.

Good or bad, is not the issue in these ... the feeling is. And you will never regret having done it, and you will be appreciated for it more than you know or understand.

NEVER/EVER pass up on one of these if you can.

I have written a few of these in my life ... and have shared them many times.

One of my favorite pieces ...

...  the music, the music ... that music ... has not died ... even if you have never heard it ... there is a note ... there is a chord ... there is a sound ... and it lives ... forever ... right here ... in my heart!

I wrote this a while back when Richard Wright died ... I know they didn't read my poem ... but I also know that some folks associated with the family have read the poem and two of them have sent me complimentary notes ... of appreciation!

That's enough for me ... to know that the love for the work is in there! Now you know why I do not care if someone understands or not my work ... because I know folks who do! ... and they have never been afraid to say something and a thank you along side of it.

I am mostly scared about 2 poems I want to write ... that I have no idea where to start ... Daevid Allen and Peter Hammill. I don't think that any 2 people in my life have ever had a greater effect on my learning and appreciation for what it is to be an artist, or writer, or a musician, or a painter, or an actor.

As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!

Nothing, after realising that the real sweet plink plop that was syncopating against the groove I had going was a real plink plop of dripping water.

But in answer to the OPQ Mostly my own, occasionally with a lyricist and a couple of other guitarists.  No it costs me and not just cash.

I just moved last weekend. Nothing is hooked up.

We did not expected you to meet a woman that quick.

What is the status of your studio?

Hmmmm ... you mean the woman?

Yikes!  Metal I could certainly tolerate, but I couldn't handle Rap - I'm only interested in music genres personally.  (Hehe...)

You know, there are actually many things in this world that I do well.  I'm a visual artist, a potter, a blogger, a designer.... And I can promise you that I am very humble about all of those things as a matter of course and midwestern sensibilities.

If I am complimented on my work at an art show/sale, I will blush and stare at my feet as I scuff the toe of my shoe as a mumble an apologetic Thank You.
But if we're talking about singing, I'll look up with a big grin and say, "Yeah.  I'm a GOOD singer, let me give you my web address..."

It's the one area of being where I allow myself the moment.

I just thought that was relevant somehow.

Me? Been basically getting a few things down on my DAW...namely a NEU-ish piece that involves little old me doing the bass, guitar(s) and drumming...and a song devoted to my wife.

And enjoying every minute of it....
