Dubstep (and pure Dub), iirc, are beatz dance loops that invoke experimentation with trance.

I'm a novice beatz meister.  As others noted, you may want some training in this before thinking grammy: Personally, I would never try to re-invent the wheel on this one ... as these grooves have evolved meticulously over the decades.

TBH, I believe the cheapest evolved dubstep loops can probably be purchased at: http://www.producerloops.com/download-dubstep-loops-samples/ royalty free.

Once you gain such loops, you yourself would apply further expermimental textures to the dance grooves.

Blessings,

I don't want to re-invent the wheel on this project, I have found some synth sounds that are dubsteppy, by that I mean the sound of the dentists drill or a chainsaw going through a sheet of metal, it's cool but I don't think that is all dubstep is after our lively conversation here, thanks all and I'll post what I'm workin on!

Hey Jonbouy if you are going to get into anything I suggest look into the Akai MPD32. It is the one apparently.

Here are some videos of this in action. One of my sound students put me onto the MPD and these videos and they are rather cool.

I kind of like the idea of first creating a piece of music then cutting it up into very small components or elements and then assigning to the MPD and then learn to reconstruct the piece live using the MPD. But then the options to play the music in an infinite number of ways takes hold.

Yep Jeff it sure looks like fun to me.

It's definitely the MPD stuff that's on my wish list.

Thanks for the vids...

I haven't used it so I don't know but a lot of the guides you see are in Ableton.  Also seen a few using FL Facilities and Cubase also.

My favorite dubstep songs are from the transnational sub-genre - check out a sample at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRc6GI8MaBI MIDIval Punditz are really the kings there IMHO. You could take a look at Joker who does great remixes - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCaHCsi9bmc. Also take a look at Skrillex (who hates being classified as dubstep) - they guy is a grammy winner FWIW.

Oh - and the best thing about massive is you can get a sound you like and tweak he hell out of it with a performance mod, save that, then change he perf mod or lfo's and save that as another patch and use program changes to switch between the two - so you can basically have one key midi triggers with five or six program changes creating a vast array of lines. Sooooo much easier than Z3ta+ 1/2 (even though I love them both).

Oh... and check out morton subotnik (i believe he's the founder of the genre) ;).
