"anchorrecordings"
I just bought it and it didn't come with any serial numbers although when I'm trying to install it it states that it needs them?

You should of received an email after your purchase (registration and serial number included). Check your spam folder just in case it ended up there.

personally, I do not think I need this. If I want an optical-type compressor I usually load Blockfish (which is still one one the best compressor plugins around, regardless free or commercial).

What are you saing?!!

Its a joke right? You are joking, right ...it must be..?....please tell us you are joking!!

Blockfish or any other fish fillet are not considered and known as "great plugins" out there.

What an ignorant and misinformed statement.

a) I do not care about the "reputation" of a plugin but about the sound. So even if the "fishes" were not considered to be great, I would not care if the sound was great. And: the sound is great! And in the this case, I am really not alone...
  b) Blockfish and the other plugins of the bundle are still considered by many, many people to be among the best available. The only drawback: no 64 bit and no intel mac. Since I am not on Mac and they work well bridged: I do not care.
  c) judge yourself. I created an example trying to mimic the hardware example posted (note: blockfish is more twakable than the LA2A completely different sounds could be created easily. Actually I prefer the sound in VCA+complex=serial mode): http://www.power-xs.net/d.nload/LA2A-Blockfish.mp3

I hope other people are less ignorant and give Blockfish a try. It does not give the convenience of PC but it delivers sound-wise.

+1 drjee, I couldn't agree more.

Pretty certain it will never happen, but I would love a 64bit version in my armoury though. I'm using 64bit X1 exclusively now and I get a lot of "Teleport server has stopped working" messages when I close a project with a Bitbridged 32bit plug loaded.

@drjee

Blockfish is a great plug. No argument here. I think it adds some tasty color and has many uses. The saturation alone is unique and nice. No doubt you have great recordings (I listened and the sound was nice).

I also think choosing between compressors can sometimes be like splitting hairs. I dropped blockfish for most of my new projects in favor of old timer. When prochannel's compressors came along, I could get the sounds I wanted/needed with those compressors + sonitus -> (talk about under rated) and old timer. Now with PC2A which is great btw, my compression basket has all I need for a while. Maybe not all I want, but that's a different story.

Don't want to forget the PC Saturation is better imho than blockfish, so that is not missed either.

Spitfish is a good de-esser for sure.  I've used it lots of times and I think it is more transparent and usable than the one in the Vocal Strip or the Vintage Channel.  Vocalists always sound like they have a lisp when using those.  Blockfish is a good comp for certain applications but the PC comps have become my go-tos, especially now with the PC2a and the PC Channel comp.  Both are the beez kneez.

I do agree that reputation alone means nothing.  If something works use it. Period.

Now I have a better idea of what the new T Type compressor is like and I really like it. I wont bother to explain why except that I hadn't thought I would have a use for such a device. Now I find it useful for a lot of things.

I have to agree with all those praising it.

I see other people have jumped on this but I'll just add that I disagree with this. Blockfish and Spitfish in particular are fantastic. Granted Blockfish isn't really the right tool for bread and butter compression, but it's dirt simple and has tons of character. You see it all the time in Sound on Sound's mix rescue column, Spitfish as well, because when you need that tool, it's the perfect tool.

That being the case, I think the PC2A is also quite a treat. I just wish it had a simpler name for reference. Like "Black Goose" or "Toothy" or some such. I've submitted a feature request but somehow I doubt they'll change the name.

I don't know about ignorant and misinformed. The first time I tried these plugins was already in year 2000 so I know all about those plugins perfectly well thank you and the old bugs.

The maker of those plugins is Sascha Eversmeier that working now for MAGIX Samplitude DAW platform. I can tell you the work and plugins he has done in MAGIX Samplitude has another class to it and its all ported to x64 too. Those plugins are GREAT Plugins! That he has not update his own old fish fillets is a mystery to me?

Not port it to x64bit VST format are the most ignorant in my opinion.
As it come for any x32bit plugins all are useless to me even if it works in bitbridge. When I see a new 32bit plugins on KVR I don't even take the time to check it out nor read about it. Have you seen any 16 bit plugins lately? no... why continue with this old outdate x32bit...especially if you can program it to FORMAT that every one want to use, x64.

I have and there are to many plugins in x64bit already that sound great.

As for Blockfish - I think it's abilities were stated quite well in this review in SOS from 2003:

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/apr03/articles/plugin0403.asp

Blockfish was and still is a great character compressor - it's not intended for clean compression - it's meant to add a bit of flavor, which it does quite well.  X64 may be the current requirement for many, but it does not diminish some really great 32 bit, older, plugins that were wonderful then and still remain useful today.

Add another +1 for Blockfish still being viable as a character compressor.

I suspect you won't - but not really because it's no good, but because it's not x64 - two completely different things.  It's a quality compressor for what it does - simple as that.  Age does not invalidate the character something brings to music.  I'll admit it's not useful for everything, but it still does exactly what it did to certain things.  How does age change it's usefulness at what it's intended for - adding character?

Freddie I understand your thought process that x64 and modern equate to better - it's your thing, but discrediting the usefulness of technology for those reasons only is a bit absurd to many.  No one said you have to use it, just don't discredit somethings usefulness simply for technological reasons.  Great music created through the ages should prove this point immediately.

I have lots of old things in my studio and music room: instruments that are nearly 40 years old, amps that are nearly 30, keyboards that are nearly 25, and so on.  They work and I know how to use them.

Needles to say a great deal has happened technology-wise during the time I've been in this game and just because things are old doesn't mean they are not useful.  If that was true I'd never get used!  I have always had the mindset that whatever works for the job is the right tool.
Hell, there are times I still eschew automation and actually ride faders!! Talk about old school!

Freddie, the 64 bit thing I get and adhere to whenever possible.  But Bit Bridge and J Bridge in particular make most a non issue for me. I'll use a 1 bit plug if it's what the job calls for.  I just want to get my work done.

After listening to the comparisons posted by Middleman and Razorwit, the PC2A seems to come across w/ a thinner, more "digital" sound in comparison to the others.

Not sure I really like what I'm hearing w/ the low end.  Think I might hold off on this one for now.

I do not want to sound patronizing, but do you happen to know what 64 bit actually refers to? It's about the so-called word length resp size in data processing. This article in Wikipedia does explain it well:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w...computer_architecture)

32 bit is no way outdated and is sufficient (and just as fast or faster for many operations as 64 bit). So, basically for audio processing the word length is just relevant when is comes to the maximum memory which can be addressed. in 32 bits it is 4GB. So in the audio plugin world onyl where you would need more than 4GB memory (for that single plugin). This might be thus relevant for a sampler like Kontakt, but not for an audio fx like a compressor. Here, 32 bit are just as good as 64 bit. It does not have anything to do with audio quality. A 32 bit vst can have internal 64 bit resolution for audio while a 64 bit vst might support just 16 bit. So if a 32 bit plugin works well bridged in a 64 bit host environment it is no way worse than any 64 bit plugin. Unfortunately, in some cases bit-bridging does not work as expected and stability issues occur or it simply does not work. In that case native 64 bit support is, of course, preferable, but it is the only reason why one (using a 64 bit host) should prefer a 64 bit plugin. Btw, many people still prefer to work in a 32 bit host - because if you do not need more than 3-4 GB memory (which many times is the case) you are just fine in 32 bit and while there are many non 64 bit plugins I do not even know one plugin which is 64 bit but does not have a 32 bit version, too.

Anyone test it on vocals? Is this easier or harder to setup than the PC4K S-Type Channel Compressor? Which one also gives a better sound?

Hi Syntheticpop,
I've been playing with it on vocals and like it quite a lot. I have not been a fan of the PC4K channel comp so when comparing those two I land squarely on the PC2A side. If you want a quick A/B I can probably throw one together with the channel comp and a few other emulations.

Very well put and explained.  I agree.  I have many plugins that I rely on heavily that are 32 bit.

We'll not risk another frontal assault-that rabbit's dynamite!!!
