Lump sum, I don't need to spread the cost so I will take the cheaper option. I will get Platinum.

I am discounting the obvious big sweatener, AD2 producer for now because AD1 did not really grab me when compaired to my Toontrack and FXPansion stuff.

It still looks to me that there are $149 worth of enhancements in Sonar Platinum. The dynamic sends is a nice one. The control bar enhancements look good, MIDI and PRV enhancements are welcome, mix recall could be a major time saver, and there is a new Pro Channel convolution reverb.

Intel i7 3770K @4.4GHz, 32GB RAM, 240GB SSD System disk, 2 x 2TB and 1 x 1TB (with SSD Cache) HDD. Windows 10,  Sonar Platinum. Roland Quad Capture.

Either way has its perks/drawbacks.  I'm poor-ish, so affordable monthly payments seem tempting.  But neither am I rich, so saving two payments by lump-summing it seems enticing.  With that extra US$39.98 in my pocket I could go to my local zoo and have a hamburger, or I could take an introductory calligraphy class.

Mod Bod
I haven't seen how the monthly payment thing works.  Is it an automatic credit card withdrawal?

I've got plenty of cash in my Paypal account so I can do a one time payment but the option to back out of the monthly payments if SONAR Platinum doesn't meet expectations when the drum replacement feature is ready is a nice option to have.

Hello Dave I think you hit the nail on the head with your last paragraph. To add to that surely having the option or choice is a winner. I am amazed to see so many negatives when what Cake has done is given you the freedom to choose.

All that I am waiting for is to see the reviews once Sonar 2015 is released and subject to those being positive I could well be tempted to take the monthly rental on the basis I can give it a full working trial and opt out after a couple of months if not happy. Seems like a win win situation to me.

After playing with the idea to jump the X4 upgrade,
i came to the conclusion to pay lump sum for the platinum pack
cause I really like ad drums ( three packs included, that´s alone worth the money)
and I like to have a platinum version of my daw software, reminds me of the good old logic days (hihi).
So it´s OK to call me a dinosaur.

Neither. Whelmed is the word that springs to my mind so far. Unless the "special surprise" makes it a much better deal than it looks at the moment I don't really see anything that I can't live without, so I'll give it 12 months and if it turns out to be worth it I'll buy it then.

As for the pay monthly thing, maybe it's just me, but the way I see it is that if people can't afford what is essentially a toy any other way then I can't help thinking that maybe they have bigger issues to deal with and shouldn't really be buying it anyway.

Hmmm normally I would pay full.... But I'm tempted to go monthly, it will be ten times easier to hide from my wife. On the flipside she has nine more chances to find out what I've bought. Damn you cakewalk for this fabulous choice. ;)

I expressed my opinion. You read that and feel the need to pray for me, yet call me judgemental ?

You really don't want to know what I think about praying then.

But, seeing as you decided to bring religion into it......maybe you should try praying to whoever it is you believe listens to you and ask them for $199 per year. I'll worry about my own "soul" thanks.

I had ordered from Sweetwater but after being invited for an early pre release I canceled and went with the monthly. With exchange rates in Australia it costs $195 so I opted for the less upfront costs. Even though that's $19.95

in 2 minds, depends on marketing.. lump sum or nothing.. if they want to offer specials later next year like they have done in the past over they years, then I might bother. if thats done and dusted , then I'll wait as long as possible or not at all

I've not updated a rival's product this year as I felt they offered too little vs what they charged. I waited for a sale on another company and upgraded their thing, and I'll see how I get on with it.

I did the Monthly plan. You still get all of the benefits without the lump sum payment.

You say that as past tense. You've signed up for the monthly already? I couldn't find a way to do it.
