Who is using any control surface with X2?
Just out of curiosity ... ... and because there's usually not much feedback when posting questions that involve any sort of interaction with a control surface ... ... and because we had a similar thread over in the VS-700 forum to show Cakewalk that there are people who need more than mouse and touch ... Who is using any control surface with X2? Which control surface are you using? I hope to get the post count to over 6000 to show Cake that they need to give control surfaces more attention, especially when introducing new features (ProChannel modules, FX chains, etc.) BTW, I use mostly VS-700, but occasionally also VS-100, A-PRO 800, sometimes even BCF2000 in MCU mode ...

Behringer BCF2000, and the Presonus Faderport which is back to life as of yesterday thanks to the kind folk on this forum. Have also tried to setup the Akai MPK49 as an ACT controller but cannot fathom out how this works at all. I'm normally quite good with tech stuff but setting up ACT has me just wanting to lash out at things in frustration.

I use the BluAudio D8Bridge MCU (Mackie Control) controller (a combination of the Mackie d8b console, the BluAudio D8Bridge v1.1 MCU emulation software, the BluAudio custom pinout serial cable, and a USB-serial adapter) when seated at the workstation and the Frontier TranzPort wireless controller across the room at the vocal mic. I also use a wireless keyboard and mouse. All three of these control surfaces operate concurrently. For example, I can start the project with the play button on the d8b control surface, walk to the other side of the room and mute or solo a track on the TranzPort, then hit the QWERTY keyboard spacebar somewhere else in the room to stop the playback. I find this arrangement gives me an incredible amount of flexibility.

I use a tascam fw1884 as my control surface. Roland quad capture as my audio device . I use an akai mpk49 as my act controller which btw suxs. My Gaia works much better as a midi controller . Akai has never played well with sonar ..act IMO suxs 1000 percent always has. It's a feature that from day one that just suxs.

I really want a simple controller that has nothing more than the basic transport controls. BIG buttons that do the following: - START, STOP, PAUSE, REWIND, RECORD That's it. Five large buttons that I can easily tap with minimal effort and without having to look at the device to see what I'm doing. Nothing more, nothing less. It would be nice if it worked immediately "out of the box", and even better if it was wireless. Make one, and I'll buy it.

It would be pretty cool to take an old Studer remote transport unit and reconfigure it for a wireless midi control surface. Nice big buttons, and great for punch-in/out and programming waypoints. The little Faderport (once you register the dll properly, lol) has a great transport section, and pretty coloured lights. I have this now used mostly for the busses, and have the BCF for the individual tracks. Faderport is on the right of my desk and I can locate it on the Akai keyboard or somewhere handy, but it's not wireless. To get the motorized fader working you also need a seperate power supply.

A Korg NanoKontrol. I set it up years ago in Sonar 8.5. The settings transferred over when upgrading to X1 and X2, so no setup whatsoever was required. It currently works flawlessly in X2.

I almost bought the NanoKontrol (I already own its brethren, the Korg NanoPad2) but there are things I don't want (like all the faders and pan pots) which take up a lot of room, and the things I do want (transport controls) are rather small relative to the overall unit. I know it's not a big unit, but it would be nice if they could just create a dedicated transport controller with nothing else. Simple, limited use but effective.

Hey, bitman Pls post a picture of that set-up. Quite a while I had thought about going this way, too, building some custom solution based on BCFs/BCRs, but ended up with a good deal on a VS-700 ... which I'm rather happy with, apart from the fact Cake usually needs about 4 versions until they make new features work with the VS-700 (was the case with the ProChannel that didn't work until X2a, and same now with FX chains ...)

It's wireless, and gives you access to every key-binding you could ever think of. Keys are small, yes, but they are backlit and the unit itself is small, which is a huge plus. Oh yeah - it's really cheap, too. (the losguy really likes that ) Image:
